Wave Slasher,  Pokémon TCG: XY—BREAKpoint Theme Deck Review

Review by Zach and Paul Fiander

The Wave Slasher pack has a very nice balance, based around the Froakie evolutions it consists of varied water types. however by adding grass types and a bug type in Kricketot (along with his evolutions) you negate the weakness water types have to grass types. Having this type mix allows the deck to more versatile..

The star of this pack is Greninja, the stage two evolution of Froakie. His attacks may not be the most powerful at sixty damage for the Moonlight slash attack however it is a very cheap attack to gain as it only requires one Water energy to produce. You do have the option of increasing the power by twenty by returning an attached energy to your hand. This makes this a very easy option to take as again it only requires one energy to power the attack up. You also have the option of using Shadow Stitching which can be activated using either energy in your deck. Although only forty damage the power to negate your opponent's abilities make this a really good secondary option for attack.

Of the other Pokemon available I have a real soft spot for Slowking the stage one evolution of Slowpoke. with a hundred hit points you have a strong level of defence already but his Royal Flash ability allows you to remove an energy from your opponent's active Pokemon. This then makes your opposition have to reapply an energy to their active Pokemon reducing their options of powering up benched Pokemon. Of course you can choose not use this ability which is especially important if you are about to beat your Pokemon you’re facing. On the attacking front you have a rather nice attack in Psych Up although first time round it only causes 40 damage on your second attack though you get to add 40 more damage making this a rather impressive attack.

Of the ability cards I've found the Fighting Fury Belt to be really useful. For use with basic Pokemon it adds forty more hit points and ten extra damage points to your attacks. If you are lucky enough to this card early it can really give you a boost in keeping your basic Pokemon fighting the extra attack points don't hurt either.

Of course there is more to explore and use with the Wave Slasher deck and I'm sure you will find your own attack and defence style. As far as I'm concerned though this has fast become one of my go to decks.
