Todd McFarlane talks The Walking Dead building blocks, Spawn resurrection and movies

Picture
Building blocks are not just for kids. Todd McFarlane, the man behind Spawn and the guy who has been bringing us action figures targeted at mature audiences for 20 years, has announced a new line of building blocks based on the hit AMC show and Image Comics book line, The Walking Dead.

Starting next week, you'll be able to pick up the beautifully painted and intricately designed sets from Toys R Us in the United States, with the toy store chain having exclusive rights to the figures until 2015, where they will roll out to other markets.

Todd McFarlane’s The Walking Dead Building Sets will be available in both large and smaller sets, as well as booster packs filled with individual figures. Buyers will get the option to choose between Humans and Zombies, with the human packs featuring a “H”, and the Walkers a “W”.

Talking to the press, Todd spoke about his thought process for releasing the range after his realisation that the toy aisle is longer and contains more than just figures. He also spoke about his wish to help build a DIY network, with builders at home becoming known for their work and sponsored by McFarlane toys.

As well as working hard on bringing Lego to adults, Todd also spoke about the upcoming Spawn Resurrection (Feb 2015) title and the future for his long running series. With the 250th issue of Spawn fast approaching, McFarlane will release Spawn Resurrection, where Al Simmons returns as Spawn after more than 50 issues, whose calm and defensive attitude will be exchanged for a more aggressive character.

Though it is a stand alone issue, Spawn Resurrection will be followed by Spawn 251, and the events of Resurrection will cross to the main Spawn arc. Speaking about this, Todd said that he saw the 250 mark as a milestone and he was not going to start the line at number 1, which both DC and Marvel have done with their lines in the last few years.

How did all this happen? Todd’s still working on a movie script, and the thought for an mature themed building set hit him. Focus Todd, I want that script.
