Titanfall Diaries; The Drop into Angel City Part 2

The noise was pretty deafening but thanks to hours of practice everyone knew their paths to secure the LZ. I immediately checked my HUD to make sure it was functioning, in this battle I had the most risky task but if successful it should secure our victory if I fail I’ll probably die. It sounds odd to be blasé about this but when you sign up you know the odds, less than 10% of recruits ever make it too pilot status. That status though comes with a bull’s-eye imprinted on your forehead as every enemy wants to take you down.

I took off on a flanking manoeuvre that would take to the right of the docks and down behind a few buildings and hopefully bring me out behind the enemy but more specifically their Spectre battalion. The reasoning was sound there are limited pilots to engage with usually a crack squad of Six and in terms of skill the Spectres were only in second due to these elite ranks. If we could decimate the Spectres it would leave more of our firepower to concentrate on the pilots and hopefully secure our advantage. I will be ably assisted in this task with my cloak which is pretty poor against the human eye but very handy against the AI of the Spectres.

Once behind their position I would drop my cache of Arc grenades then go weapons free with the hope of causing my own special form of mayhem. At that point the need for stealth would evaporate and that’s why I never bother with a silencer. If I keep out of the EMP range of the Arc grenade I will hold all the cards and the sound will become another disabling string to my murderous bow. Of course the IF is pretty large in this scenario but for the most part or my adventure I encountered no resistance. There was one Grunt Sniper on a rooftop but I was able to sneak up behind the otherwise engaged foe and perform a quick cervical spine recalibration (in other words over rotate their neck to snap their spinal cord). Thankfully the speed of this brutal move was enough to keep the snipers death silent and my presence secret.

The time had arrived for my raid to begin in earnest, the sounds of battle where roaring through the streets so I knew I would have some cover in the opening salvo. My prey was lined up in a tight knit battle formation as we knew they would be. The wonder of spectres is they always perform to the textbook rules and formations. My first throw landed slap bang in the middle of the lead group, the EMP blast of the Arc decimating the group and causing disorientation in the second group. Thankfully even before my first throw had landed I was already warming up the next grenade for the second group. Unfortunately the throw was not quite as effective but still managed to drop all of the spectres bar two stragglers. These were dispatched in quick time and my primary task was complete, now it was time to get well and truly stuck in.

I activated my Cloak and started to move, obviously this is a bit of a risk as I could easily be hit by fire from my own team but I did not have the time to double back behind my own battlelines especially as the opposition already had a Titan. Judging by the sound the mech was making as it walked it was an Ogre, you could hear the road underfoot straining under the weight. This I decided would be my primary attack objective. I still had one Arc Grenade left, I stowed my Hemlock on my back and pulled out my Wingman, in rodeo conditions the small barrelled weapon makes for a safer shot. I spotted my prey and threw my Arc grenade in to its chest, and then I was leaping through the air on to the Titans back. It was an exhilarating move and one that has brought great success, the power of the Titan is immense but their manoeuvrability is still not that of a humans. Once I removed the control modules capsule I began to let rip with my Wingman causing damage to the Titan and probably infuriating the pilot inside. I knew I would need to reload at least once if I was able to take this Titan down and thankfully it was not equipped with electric smoke or I would be dead. Once I was almost to the end of my second clip the Pilot inside had obviously had enough and ejected from the cockpit trigger a nuclear ………..
