The story has been building nicely with the growing symbiotic relationship between FBI agent Anderson and the former suit Prizrak coming to the fore. Even though they begin this issue captured by the mob with the help of hired Russian mafia, it’s this incarceration that sets up the showdown of the year in the comic sense.

The story is told in the past and present and runs concurrently as we jump between the two time periods. It’s an all action masterpiece that has a rescue or Morpheus fell to it. There is not the over the top Matrix style physics instead we get a lot of guns and where you get a lot of guns you get an even greater number of bullets. The range of weaponry on show is crazy topped off with a beast of a machine that Toby Cypress does an amazing job depicting.

With a limited colour palette and stylistic artwork Cypress absolutely gets the motion within each panel down to a tee. The hectic nature of the story needed strong visuals or else the story would lose impact. This is because the issue is much more about action than the other issues we have had to date. Of course the story has been designed this way but the execution had to be spot on or the creators would run the risk of failing with their coup de grace.

Of course there is more to this issue than just artwork, the story itself may only move on by an hour or two but we get to find out more about how far Anderson has fallen in her pursuit for vengeance. It shows her as a human being filled with flaws but also shows how calculating a character she is. This type of multidimensional character is a joy to read and even though the story feels a little on the predictable side it’s the journey that you will get swept away with not just the destination. Frank Barbiere really shows his diversity with this story especially when compared to five ghosts (issue 10 reviewed here) the differences in the stories are surprising and I’m not sure they were written by the same author. This however is what I like from creators the ability to recreate yourself and produce characters with different voices is a testament of ability.

The world of the White suits feels rich and full of death at every turn. This issue is certainly no jumping on point with one issue to go, I just hope the creative team can give the story the ending it deserves. No matter the outcome though I’m sure I’ll enjoy the ride.

Issue Rating 4/5
