Review - The White Suits #2Review by Paul Fiander
|
The visual style of the White Suits is crazy, over the top but most of all impressive. The balance between the black and white with the occasional hints of colour make for a visual feast. If you look a deeper though you will see a diverse cast of heroes, villains and heavies all populating the drab streets of New York (even though some are in penthouses). Toby Cypress really shows off his work by not sticking to one body type and yet still stamping his own distinctive mark on each person.
In the last issue we left our memory impaired focal character on the end of an arse kicking form a mysterious woman. As this issue goes we begin to fill in the blanks but more importantly we find out more about the White Suits. Our mystery woman is on the tail of the suits and with the help of her new found colleague she is one step closer to getting to grip with the Russian threat. Barbiere continues to make the story to flow and considering we are halfway through this series I never felt rushed while reading. Obviously he knew how long he would have to tell his story and I really hope that the story pays off in the final two episodes. This issue does have quite a bit of dialogue and in the whole feels slower than the first issue. The balance between the two issues though seems just right. With the high octane first issue it is quite nice to have a bit of a rest bite to learn more about the world we find ourselves in. That is not to say this issue is devoid of action, the opening has a splash page to drool over and when you finish you can hardly say this was a boring episode. I am expecting though the next two issues to be a bit more action orientated. As we hit the midway point of the White Suits I would easily recommend this book. It is a great read and the visuals give the book a standout feature. Even though the art is stylised it is still very powerful and this is not a book for all ages. Instead you are getting a gritty tale of a gang operating in the Russian Underworld of New York and one woman’s quest to break them. Not forgetting our amnesia suffering focal character. Issue Rating 4/5 |
