I will happily admit this is one of the oddest review books I have ever worked on. As an avid/rapid fan of the world of George R.R.Martin I believed I had a handle on the myriad of merchandising associated with the show and books. From cook books to replica swords, Funko’s to figures I have looked at everything Game of Thrones related I could. This being said it now seems obvious that one thing had passed my attention both in this form and in the general pastime, colouring.
As a child I was and as I have recently found out incapable of staying within the lines with a colouring implement in hand. It's a sad fact of life that my five year old secretly stole away a picture I coloured to make it look better and while I love him for his gesture I can not help but think this may not be the book for me. On inspection of the 45 images contained within this book my thoughts were realised as I was greeted with a collection of highly detailed images from The Family Crests of the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms to character images. Each image is mirrored by a quote which refers to the image and here I find my issue with this book. The book is called a “Game of Thrones” but the quotes are lifted from the novels. It could just be a subtle attempt to try to convince more people to grab the books or more likely something to do with licensing but it would have made more sense for it to carry the full A Song of Ice and Fire title. However it makes monetary sense to use the Game of Thrones tag so maybe I should just zip my lip and live in the now. |
In all honesty if one theme was going to get me into colouring this was probably going to be the one. Unfortunately I will side step the new trend but if you enjoy putting colour to paper then this is a book filled with lovely images that will be a challenge to complete but oh so satisfying once you're done.
