SUPER SONIC PUNCH BABY! This week Barry faces off against his primary school bully, but not as he remembers him in one of the coolest episodes of season one yet. On tonights episode we were are treated to all sorts of great stuff. Barry breaking the sound barrier, Joe coming face to face with the same uh, thing that killed Barry’s mother, not to mention the neat little nod to the actual Man of Steel!
Normally when the show starts each week, we hear the voice over from Barry. This time though its a little different however as its Iris giving the voice over. It figures though as in previous episodes we've seen, she's taken a large interest in blogging about at that point, “the Streak”. Its a nice touch. As we've seen from the last couple episodes, the reason why Barry is telling Iris to stop the blog posts is for her safety. This weeks villain does exactly what Barry feared could happen to Iris if she was to continue this. Hey, she was warned! |
Tony Woodward, the featured villain in this episode is a little different from how the comic portray him. Instead of a huge man literally made of um girders and rivets etc… We have a slightly more realistic version of the character. This show portrays him as your average american jock/school bully. It works pretty well. Although he is never actually referred to as Girder (the comic book version) in this episode, there is a nice little nod to it when Barry is training how to fight a man made of steel by way of Cisco’s robot called. Yes you guessed it. Girder.
After the first encounter with Woodward, there is a crime scene that Barry attends to find out more information on this character. However the one thing I couldn't help but notice is why they haven't featured the overhead graphics of Barry’s thought process we saw in the very first couple of episodes when he is investigating the tire tread of the car. |
The final showdown between Barry and Woodward features by far the best moment in the episode. Perhaps even the series, unless you count episode three’s poisonous gas villain. That was pretty sweet. During the second half of the episode we learn that to defeat woodward, Barry must hit him in the right place at the right speed. Faster than the speed of sound to be precise. This results in Barry doing exactly this and almost flying punches Woodward in the face super hard. Its awesome!
Other than some crazy final scenes throughout the various episodes, Dr Wells hasn't had as much of the spotlight on him as opposed to the other characters. This week we learn a little more of his history and what it is exactly he's doing in Central City. Theres a scene that involves him being casually questioned by Detective Joe West.
As we've seen early in the season, Joe is also trying to figure out just what happened the night Barry’s mother was killed. This results in quite a spectacular moment at the end of the episode when Joe comes face to face with this same yellow and red lightning storm that Barry witnessed all those years ago. On the wall is a picture of his daughter pinned by a knife with a gruesome message underneath that reads “Stop or else!” Coincidence? I think not sir, you've been rumbled! Maybe…
