Warning this article contains Spoilers for this episode.
So in the first write up of this feature, I stated that I hadn't read any Flash books but knew enough to know some villains when I see them. What happens at the end of this episode was exactly that! Holy crap! To a non reader of comics though I can see this particular villain to seem quite stupid. But hey, because comics right!
This weeks episode takes a slightly different approach to that of the previous ones. Instead of Barry Taking on a Meta Human using their powers for the purpose of evil. The Meta Human this time is just a little misunderstood it seems. Bette Sans-Souci, or Plastique has the unfortunate (slightly awesome) power of making things explode whenever she touches them. The first time we see her is breaking into a high rise office building searching for a file. We learn what this file is later on with the introduction of a another key player. But during this scene, as she's confronted trying to escape with a bag she causes it to explode, resulting in The Flash rescuing a window cleaner by running up a building. Its pretty awesome. |
The majority of this episode surrounds this character and the history she has with General Wade Eiling. Surprisingly, there weren't any flashback scenes this time. Once we've been introduced to the new Meta Human, we learn throughout the episode that she is on the run from the aforementioned and slightly cliché army general character. The reason being he wants to continue to carry out tests on her unfortunate power and develop a super soldier program from it. (stop me if you've heard that one before..) She's not ok with this though. Naturally.
Among this, there were various scenes involving the S.T.A.R. Labs team and surrounding characters. One in particular during the final ten minutes or so of the episode that shows again the darker side of Dr Wells. This ultimately leads to the very surprising and unfortunate death of Plastique. A couple of pretty funny ones too for that matter. Barry finding out due to his extreme metabolism cant get drunk and Cisco getting pissed at Barry for blowing up one of his Flash suits. It's ok though, there's more where that came from. Again, because comics right? |
Barry was put in a slightly awkward situation this week too as he's confronted by Iris west whilst in full Flash get up. during the last couple of episodes we learn Iris has been blogging about the appearances of “The Streak” as Central City currently knows him as. She still doesn't know who it is yet however. Barry does a neat trick to his vocal chords to distort his voice. As not to put Iris in danger, Barry starts to push her away telling her to drop the whole Streak thing. In doing this, has caused a divide in the strong friendship of the characters. I’m sure Barry will reveal himself to her later in the season though.
Overall this weeks episode was strong throughout. Even with slightly generic supporting characters such as Eiling. I felt Plastique's character was rushed somewhat too. It would have been nice to see a little more of her in another episode perhaps. But as I don't know the character that well I guess I can let it go and argue it works for the episode. For me the highlight of this weeks episode had to be he final scene. It will be very interesting to see how they portray such a crazy and outlandish character onscreen. He is after all a talking Gorilla…
