Continuing the story that will ultimately lead to the return of Al Simmons, the “original” Spawn, Spawn 248 begins to unravel it storyline.

Current Spawn Jim Downing continues to hunt for a cure for the love of his life, Sara Johnston, who was rushed to hospital at the start of the last issue. Using his supernatural abilities, Downing has become an international celebrity for his ability to cure the sick and dying, but, unable to save Sara, Downing is frantically trying to find an answer.

All around the Downing, the story and the characters are playing their own hands, and old faces are being reintroduced. Desperation has set in and it’s time for Downing to find the solution. It’s time to ask the suit that resides within him for answers.

As a new Spawn reader, I felt somewhat lost while reading the last issue. Issue 248 helped me better understand the world in its pages, with detailed writing and a gruesome art style that manages to remain clear and coherent.

Plus, where else can you see a showdown between a Hellspawn and a vampire?
