Review; Penclic Mouse R2

The mouse has always been a tool to help with input, unfortunately for some the nature of the shape has caused issues. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is the main problem usually associated with mouse use, this is generally caused by the wrist being held in a pronated position (palmfacing downward) add to this the repetitive motion of clicking buttons with your index finger and you naturally increase the pressure on the tissues of the wrist.

We are not designed to work on computers the human hand is better designed for gripping then it is for the usual mouse holds. There are many different types of input tools on the market including track balls and ergonomic mice but sometimes a little innovation based on something we all know can be hugely beneficial. Enter the Penclic R2.

To make something clear this is not a stylus, it's a mouse equivalent. The pen nature of the design has confused more than a few people (see Amazon reviews for more info). However the creators have made it plain this is not as precise as a stylus on a board instead it is designed to replace our most trusted PC peripheral. The major bonus you will get using the Penclic is the fact your hand is held in a more neutral position decreasing pressure within the carpal tunnel.

There is a learning curve for the move to a Penclic the vast array of buttons contained on the shaft of the pen can make you forget where you are rather quickly however once you put the time in you will get the hang of it. The images contained on this review help to show the dexterity of the Penclic and without the buttons it would be far less useful.

In terms of gaming it is not as natural as a traditional gaming mouse. I use a RAT and it is more functional for play. However I have found myself jumping between the two peripherals as working with the Penclic reduces strain on the wrist allowing more time and comfort available while playing.
As a primary working tool I can happily give the Penclic a vote of confidence its receptive and once you put the time in easy to use. If you do have RSI concerns it is always worth talking to a medical practitioner first but moving from a pronated wrist to a more neutral position could be an answer to make your life easier.
