Comic-Inspired Action Title Confirms New North American Release Date

Team NINJA and Dark Horse Comics today launched the three-part YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z digital comic series, providing insight into the backstory in three revealing vignettes. Yaiba takes a break from slaughtering zombies in the debut issue to tell the tale of how his often bloody sword became to be known as “Heartless” as he recounts the story to Miss Monday. Initially released digitally with an all-new full color print comic to be available with the game, as it launches on its newly confirmed North American release date of March 18, 2014, the series is brought to life by Writers Tim Seeley and Josh Emmons, Artist Rafael Ortiz, Colorist Carlos Badilla with special cover art by James Harren. The comic will be available for free download at the Dark Horse Digital Store, www.digital.darkhorse.com, as well as through the Dark Horse Comics app (available through iTunes & Google Play). The comic can be found at:https://digital.darkhorse.com/profile/4128.yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z-1/

In YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z, players will battle fierce zombies as Yaiba, a cyborg ninja who will do anything to get revenge and stay alive. Cleaved in two, he is brought back to life with cyber-technology. Brandishing his ninja sword and the mecha weapons in his cyber arm, he slaughters zombies with brutal, over-the-top abandon. Step into a stylized living comic book where stunning graphics depict a world gone mad. Hordes of undead can only be stopped by Yaiba’s willingness to use any means necessary to get the job done. Will he kill by turning his cyber arm into a razor chainsaw for slicing up undead—or just rip off an opponent’s arms to use as zombie nunchucks? Both possibilities fill Yaiba’s heart with twisted laughter in this collaboration between famed developers Team NINJA and comcept’s Keiji Inafune.

YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Steam® (PC) March 18, 2014. This title has been rated M (Mature) by the ESRB.

In a monumental year for entertainment, Dark Horse Comics has secured its place in video-game-art history with The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia™, which charted in the top ten as one of 2013’s best-selling books globally.

In February, The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia soared to the top of the Nielsen BookScan charts, making it the #1 book in America.

In addition, the book reached #1 on the Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestseller lists. Dark Horse announced a record print run, with the number continuing to grow as The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia dominated orders in the UK, China, Italy, Spain, and Canada.

“We knew this book was going to be one of the highlights of the year before it even hit catalogs,” said Dark Horse’s president and publisher, Mike Richardson, “but no one could have predicted the unprecedented success and acclaim this book has received. Hyrule Historia has earned a place in the Dark Horse history books!”

This handsome hardcover contains never-before-seen concept art, the full history of Hyrule, the official chronology of the games, and much more! Starting with an insightful introduction by the legendary producer and video-game designer of Donkey Kong™, Mario™, and The Legend of Zelda™, Shigeru Miyamoto, this book is crammed full of information about the storied history of Link™’s adventures from the creators themselves! As a bonus, The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia includes an exclusive comic by the foremost creative team of The Legend of Zelda manga—Akira Himekawa!

The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia is a must-have for any Legend of Zelda fan!
Praise for The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia:

“Perfect for Zelda fans and appealing to gaming historians, Zelda: Hyrule Historia is a shelf worthy piece of non-fiction about a great fiction.”--Newsarama

“With the full gamut of chronology on full display and a nearly ridiculous amount of history and artwork to sift through, this collection is huge and exhausting. It’s also well worth it, as this guide is the only one in its existence that could gather so many facts about such a beloved series and make it as terrific looking as it is.”--EGM Now

“Hyrule Historia fulfills on its premise: a history of Hyrule, the wonderful, legendary world we’ve been falling in love with again and again since 1987. If you’re looking for the latest collector’s piece to celebrate your love for the franchise, look no further:Hyrule Historia is it.”--IGN

“The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia is a work of love for all Zelda fans. The creative team really wanted to give something back to the people on the 25th Anniversary of the franchise and with this book they nailed it. With tons of concept art, an official timeline, insight into the creative process, and a wonderful comic, this book is one that any Zelda fan will find worthwhile. Critically Acclaimed RPG Explores New Worlds at Dark Horse!
Picture
Picture
Dark Horse Comics proudly announces its next hit video game tie-in series, The Witcher, based on the critically acclaimed games by CD Projekt RED.

From Paul Tobin, the Eisner Award–winning writer of Bandette, with art by Joe Querio (Lobster Johnson, B.P.R.D.) and covers by Dave Johnson (100 Bullets), comes a riveting comic based onThe Witcher, a series of dark fantasy RPGs with a character-driven, nonlinear story set in a gritty living world and inspired by a series of extremely popular novels that have been translated into nineteen languages. The comic series introduces a new adventure featuring Geralt of Rivia—a witcher, one of the few remaining monster hunters.

“We’re very happy to be working with Dark Horse Comics, which is one of the biggest and most interesting comic book publishing houses in the world. What makes it even more exciting is the fact that, for many of us, the Dark Horse logo has near legendary status, standing for classic stories such as Hellboy or Usagi Yojimbo. We’re very happy to be once again expanding theWitcher universe,” said Adam Badowski, head of studio for CD Projekt RED.

Traveling near the edge of the Black Forest, in the land of the Angren, monster hunter Geralt meets a widowed man whose dead and murderous wife resides in an eerie mansion known as the House of Glass, a place of endless rooms where horror waits around every corner. Geralt will have to use all his witcher prowess to solve the manor’s mystery and survive.

“We’re very excited to work with CD Projekt Red on The Witcher. With the rich world they have created, and an enthralling central character like Geralt, we feel The Witcher is ripe to tell a compelling story through comics,” said Nick McWhorter, director of custom programs at Dark Horse Comics.

With the two Witcher games already available, fans can get to know Geralt even before the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2014 on PC, PlayStation4, and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft. The Witcher games have collectively earned over 270 awards and sold more than five million copies worldwide.

Fans can check out the exclusive interview with writer Paul Tobin only on Newsarama!

The Witcher #1 will be available for purchase on March 19, 2014, in comic shops everywhere!

Red hot fantasy-noir show Lost Girl is coming to MCM London Comic Con later this month, with stars Ksenia Solo, Rachel Skarsten and Executive Producer Jay Firestone. Get the lowdown on one of TV's most seductive series!

Produced by Prodigy Pictures and airing on Syfy UK, Lost Girl tells the story of charismatic and beautiful Bo (Anna Silk), a Succubus who feeds off of sexual energy, sometimes with fatal results. Growing up with human parents, Bo has no reason to believe she's anything other than the girl next door – until she drains her boyfriend to death. While on the run, Bo discovers she is one of the 'Fae', creatures of legend who pass as humans while feeding off them secretly, as they have for millennia. Bo is forced to side with either the Dark or the Light Fae clans, but she stubbornly refuses to choose and remains an unaligned renegade who fights for the underdog, while searching for the truth about her mysterious origins.

Two-time Gemini Award winner Ksenia Solo (Black Swan, Life Unexpected) plays Kenzi, Bo’s street-smart and fiercely loyal human best friend. Kenzi's savvy and cynical nature makes her very protective of Bo. A human in a world of Fae, Kenzi is vulnerable, but her skills and heart have made her an integral part of the Fae world.

Rachel Skarsten (Transporter: The Series, Birds Of Prey) plays Tamsin, a Valkyrie mercenary and bounty hunter. Tamsin’s has a tough-as-nails attitude, but at her core she’s a much more complex and emotional Fae with lifetimes of hardship under her belt.

Award-winning Executive Producer Jay Firestone is the founder and president of Prodigy Pictures, a leader in the production of quality film, television, and cross-platform media. Prodigy has currently wrapped production of the fourth season of Lost Girl and is also responsible for the Franco-Canadian co-production XIII: The Series. Jay’s other credits include Andromeda, Relic Hunter, Mutant X and La Femme Nikita. Prodigy is currently developing an adaptation of the seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, as well as fantasy series Bedtime Stories and a sprawling space epic based on the titular comic Dark Matter.

In that time he has been through a whole host of traumas with a sprinkling of triumphs, but now he looks to be facing the biggest ordeal so far.

However does the 10th Anniversary edition create a buzz or does it fizzle out with a low level pop?
