DARK HORSE SDCC 2015: GREG RUCKA TO CRAFT ‘DRAGON AGE: MAGEKILLER’ IN DECEMBER

Why this piqued our interest.

When Rucka turns his eye to a project we can not help but take notice. If you have not yet read Lazarus you may not quite get why but as this series is not out till December it will give you plenty of time to find out why. So go buy Lazarus.

The fact this series will be meshed into the Dragon Age story is also something that has us excited.
This December, Greg Rucka enters the world of Thedas for an all-new chapter in Dark Horse Comics and BioWare’s Dragon Age comics.

Running parallel to the events of the award-winning Dragon Age: Inquisition video game from BioWare and Electronic Arts, Dragon Age: Magekiller introduces two new characters to Dragon Age lore: Tessa and Marius are mercenary partners, eliminating those who use blood magic to hurt others, but when a powerful patron employs them, they realize this next job may be their last…

“I think the effort that Bioware has consistently put into every on of their roleplaying games—we can talk about Mass Effect, we can talk about Dragon Age, we can talk about Jade Empire, you can go down the list—is really stunning,” Rucka told Polygon. “I know with Dragon Age in particular, we’re talking about a fantasy setting that is probably one of the most fully and beautifully realized examples of world building that we’ve seen.”

Illustrated by Carmen Carnero (Cyclops) with covers by Sachin Teng, Dragon Age: Magekiller is the beginning of a new adventure in the world of Thedas and an essential addition to the Dragon Age canon. For more information, check out Polygon’s exclusive interview with Greg Rucka.

Don’t miss this perfect entry point into the epic dark-fantasy world of Dragon Age! Preorder your copy of Dragon Age: Magekiller #1 today from your local comic shop.

DARK HORSE SDCC 2015: LARA CROFT RETURNS IN ‘LARA CROFT AND THE FROZEN OMEN’

1/7/2015

Comments

CORINNA BECHKO AND RANDY GREEN BRING HIGH-SPIRITED ACTION AND CLASSIC ADVENTURE

Picture
Lara Croft® is back with dual pistols, sharp wit, and an eye for action as acclaimed writer Corinna Bechko takes on the video game icon in Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen this October.

Based in the same universe as the Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris® and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light® video games from Crystal Dynamics, Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen is a five issue miniseries written by Bechko and illustrated by Tomb Raider® comics veteran Randy Green.

In this all-new adventure, Lara must stop a group of cultists from causing world-wide cataclysmic devastation, and ancient ivory artifacts hold the key to both salvation and destruction! It’s a race against time in Lara’s new quest, filled with incredible action, dual pistols, and non-stop adventure.

“Lara is incredibly fun to write,” Bechko told Polygon. “She doesn’t suffer fools, she’s smart, and she’s talented. She’s always ready for action, but she’s not afraid to think through a problem either. And she doesn’t ever wait around for someone else to save her. There’s a lot of satisfaction in writing a character like that.”

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Dark Horse on a new Lara Croft comic,” said Rich Briggs, Brand Director at Crystal Dynamics. “This globe-trotting series is filled with the dual gun-wielding action and confident flair that nostalgic Lara Croft fans will love. It’s a great companion to the existing Tomb Raider comics, and offers fans another way to go on a high-octane adventure with Lara.”

For more information on Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen, head over to Polygon, and contact your local comic book store to reserve your copy of the first issue!

Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, Tyler Durden lives… a mundane life. A kid, a wife. Pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long, the wife has seen to that. The time has come . . . Rize or Die.

On Saturday May 2nd, Dark Horse Comics will debut one of the most anticipated comic book and literary events of the year with a FIGHT CLUB 2 story written by NEW YORK TIMES bestselling novelist Chuck Palahniuk, illustrated by Eisner Award winning artist Cameron Stewart and colored by award winning Dave Stewart.  The Dark Horse Comics Free Comic Book Day Sampler includes a 14-page story that adapts the ending of the FIGHT CLUB novel (which fans will recall is different than the ending of the acclaimed film) and leads into the upcoming Dark Horse Comics FIGHT CLUB 2 comic book series. The first issue of FIGHT CLUB 2 will be available at comics shops, select book stores and digitally via the Dark Horse digital storeand app on May 27th.

Dark Horse Comics has encouraged fans to further contribute to the mayhem with a guerilla marketing campaign utilizing the phrases "Tyler Durden Lives" and "Rize or Die" in order to win Easton Press limited, leather-bound editions of Palahniuk’s novels BEAUTIFUL YOU, FIGHT CLUB and SURVIVOR. For the first time since 2005, Makoto Yukimura’s Planetes is coming back to bookshelves this December, courtesy of Dark Horse Comics.

In the 2070s, increased interplanetary travel has led to crisis-level amounts of dangerous space debris, and someone has to clean it up. Planetes follows the space-garbage crew of aspiring explorer Hachimaki, mourning Yuri, and secretive Fee. A two-time recipient of the Seiun Award, Japan’s highest honor for science fiction, Planetes grants a whole new generation a chance to journey to the far reaches of the universe.

“Planetes is one of the series that made me a manga fan, at once startlingly realistic in its scientific detail, moving in its relatable human drama, and hilarious in the personalities of its diverse cast of astronauts,” saidPlanetes editor Brendan Wright. “I was saddened to think it might fade from American comics shops after Tokyopop’s demise, so it’s a joy and an honor to reintroduce it at Dark Horse in the edition I’d want as a fan, with superior source materials and all the color pages included.”

The entire story is collected in two omnibus editions from the original files, complete with bonus color pages, with over 500 pages for only $19.99. Preorder Planetes Volume 1 today from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, or your local comic shop.

There is an absolute evil. The Red King lives. On May 6 2015, the legendary creator of HELLBOY, Mike Mignola, and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling novelist Christopher Golden will reunite to present the rise of a new villain: the Red King in BALTIMORE: THE CULT OF THE RED KING, a five part comic book series from Dark Horse Comics with art by award winning children’s book illustrator Peter Bergting, colors by the award winning Dave Stewart and stunning covers by Ben Stenbeck (FRANKENSTEIN UNDERGROUND).

The Red King is legendary. But is he the stuff of myth—or the ultimate adversary of the human race? In this series, Lord Baltimore discovers the truth about an ancient evil that threatens to destroy the world.

"What I love best about BALTIMORE is that I really believe there's nothing else like it in the comics marketplace. It's unique,” said acclaimed co-writer and novelist Christopher Golden. “THE CULT OF THE RED KING is epic horror spanning three continents, with a large cast of characters and a real sense of dread thanks to stunning art by Peter Bergting and the mood set by the colors of Dave Stewart, who is the best colorist in the business, bar none."

The events of BALTIMORE: THE CULT OF THE RED KING take place after the events of the BALTIMORE novel co-written by Mignola and Golden. “I'm really excited about this new direction we're taking with the Baltimore book and Peter Bergting and Dave Stewart continue to really deliver the goods,” said Mignola.

"Baltimore succeeded in his quest for revenge, and now, barely hanging onto his humanity, Baltimore’'s diving into a much bigger mission,” said Dark Horse Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie. “He's not just taking down the most evil people he can find--he's facing off with evil itself.”

Black magic, corrupt religion and absolute evil? Beware the Red King. BALTIMORE: THE CULT OF THE RED KING goes on sale from Dark Horse Comics on May 6 2015. BALTIMORE: OR, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER AND VAMPIRE will be available for paperback for the first time in July of 2015.

The product category was created in 2005 with the massively successful line of ships from Joss Whedon’s “Serenity,” which was soon followed by a popular line based on Bioware’s “Mass Effect” series, to great success and the unanimous approval of gamers, collectors, and comic fans!

“We are excited to be working with the team at 343 Industries,” Dark Horse product development head David Scroggy said. “We have already had some fruitful planning meetings. We are discovering we have a similar vision toward crafting a well thought-out program of ship and vehicle replicas that will resonate with the Halo community.”

“Dark Horse is already doing an amazing job bringing the Halo universe to life with us in the comics and we’re excited to partner with them in a brand new way to keep the surprises coming for fans,” said Kevin Grace, Halo Franchise Manager at 343 Industries.

While 343 Industries and Dark Horse are not yet ready to disclose which ships and vehicles will be included in the program, fans and retailers are encouraged to keep an eye on the news in the coming months for more information!
