Bestselling writer Rick Remender launches the new series fans have been dying for, previews breathtaking artwork

Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS) and artist Greg Tocchini (Uncanny X-Force) plunge into an underwater dystopian world in their new, highly anticipated ongoing series LOW. This #1 issue marks the launch of the science fiction series first announced at Image Expo in January and the beginning of a sure-to-be hit for fans of Remender and Tocchini’s work.
Picture
LOW is set in the distant future, after humanity has relocated to radiation-shielded cities below the sea and the surface of the planet has become a scorched uninhabitable wasteland. A probe has returned with information on a possible alternative planet for humans, but it has landed on the Earth’s surface. A few brave representatives from the warring human clans venture out to retrieve it and the hopeful news it bears.

"Low is a story about one woman's eternal optimist against the crushing weight of a world without hope,” said Remender. “Stel's a perfect character to examine the notion that it’s not what happens in life that defines us, but how we choose to deal with it. Working with longtime collaborator Greg Tocchini is a treat as ever. His rendering of the world of Salus is worth the cost of admission alone, which is already a steal given the first issue is 30 pages of Greg's game-changing work."

Fans of BLACK SCIENCE, Remender's chart-busting sci-fi collaboration with Matteo Scalera, won’t want to miss out on the imagination-inspiring world-building and stunningly beautiful artwork of LOW.

LOW #1 arrives in stores on 7/30, and will be available for $3.99. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code MAY140566. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is 7/7.

Early artwork reveals The Spread epidemic has begun, retailers must submit their orders before they too are infected

Picture
Image Comics has received numerous reports from retailers fearful of The Spread, a poisonous organism that was first unleashed by Justin Jordan (DEAD BODY ROAD, Luther Strode) and Kyle Strahm (HACK/SLASH, HAUNT) in April when they announced their new science-fiction thriller, SPREAD. Soon thereafter #ItsSpreading went viral on various social media networks and the horrifying realization that the new series was upon us all manifested in feedback from various comic book stores afflicted by the unstoppable deadly red growth.

At the time of this press release, Jordan and Strahm could not be reached to comment on their role in this epidemic, as both are allegedly seeking refuge in a quarantined bunker where they work on issue #2 in a race against the clock.

Retailers however, were forthright in sharing their stories of SPREAD-related terror.

Jon Engel of New Dimension Comics in Pennsylvania was the first to come forward and was the canary in the coal mine for many of his fellow retailers. "Oh my God, while showing someone our new comic wall we kept noticing a space in the 'S' section," Engel said of the first sign something was amiss in the store. "We would fill it, then it would reappear! Finally out of the corner of my eye I saw these crazy red tentacles making the space! I was so freaked out I went and put in my order for Spread #1! Maybe if I fill it, it will stop."

"The Spread is in everyone's saver,” admitted Trina Latrine of World’s Best Comics, Cartoons & Toys in California. “There are red tentacles in everyone's saver and I'm not sure what to do, I haven't been able to get in there for weeks. My customers can't wait for The Spread to come out… literally."

Steve Anderson of Third Eye Comics in Maryland cautions the public on cross-contamination. "The excitement has been SPREADING from our staff to our customers,” said Anderson. “And with hungry tendrils all around, I knew that the only cure would be to order lots and lots of Spread #1 to keep the infection at bay."

One Lauren Becker of Warp 9 Comics & Collectibles in Michigan recounted her experience with The Spread with particular urgency. "I started hearing rumors about The Spread. I didn't think anything of it, but then the rumors started, bringing along fear and panic. Customers came in—‘where is The Spread’ they shrieked in terror. ‘It's not here yet,’ I responded, ‘but soon… and may God have mercy upon your soul.’”

For some stores, it was much worse: "Lena handed me the sheet to restock our back issue bins,” Steve Olsen, of Little Shop of Comics in New Jersey explained. “I proceeded down the steps to our store’s basement, flicked on the lights, and at that moment I heard something out of the ordinary. I cautiously proceeded to the back of the basement and noticed some residue on the floor. As I knelt down to get a feel for it, I noticed a red tip that started growing. As it got closer to me I realized The Spread was here! Its long, ugly tentacle chased me until I was back upstairs and I told Lena: ‘We need to order more of Spread #1!’”

"Spread is infecting MaximuM Comics' new release walls throughout Las Vegas—and making its diseased way into Pull Boxes everywhere!” said Jay Bosworth of MaximuM Comics in Nevada, in between gasps for air. “The vile sickness that is The Spread will grab hold of you, shatter your senses and leave you dying for more. The only cure? Make sure you order enough for your walls, too!!"

Ryan Boyle at Coliseum of Comics in Florida cleared off a space on the store’s shelves for SPREAD after experiencing a terrifying confrontation with The Spread that he chose not to elaborate on further. He said only, “After The Spread made its presence known, the terrifying red entity’s existence alone was reason enough for us to order up while we still had the chance.” For those in search of sanctuary he added, “Our stores stand ready to harbour any victims or people looking for refuge from The Spread, from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on most weekdays.”

SPREAD #1 will overtake all stores nationwide on 7/9. It can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code: MAY140579. Final Order Cutoff for retailers is 6/16. For those still unconvinced of the gravity of the situation, see the below artwork.

The August releases of two bestselling Shadowline series written by Kurtis J. Wiebe, RAT QUEENS #8 and PETER PANZERFAUST #21, will feature covers by each other’s artists. Additionally, a special retailer incentive cover B diptych by Michael Avon Oeming will be available for both books.

RAT QUEENS artist Roc Upchurch will draw Cover A for PETER PANZERFAUST. "Being a Peter Panzerfaust fan, I jumped at the chance to do a Wendy cover,” said Upchurch. “This is, by far, the best incarnation of Wendy Darling to date. I hope I did her justice (though, I probably did not)."

This twenty-first issue begins a new story arc for the series, providing a perfect opportunity for fans of Upchurch’s RAT QUEENS work to try out this series as well. Together at last, Peter, the Darlings, and the remaining Lost Boys embed themselves in the dangerous heart of Paris. With the Hook hot on their heels, it is only a matter of time before they are discovered. But as ever, Peter is not without a plan!

PETER PANZERFAUST artist Tyler Jenkins will draw cover A for RAT QUEENS. "As far away from anything I get to draw on a regular basis and easily the most fun I have had doing almost any cover,” said Jenkins. “These characters seriously Roc(k).”

In this issue the Rat Queens continue their blade-swinging snark in part three of “The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’Rygoth.” And this time, enemies better watch their backs.

PETER PANZERFAUST #21 will be available on 8/13 for $3.50 and can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code JUN140493. RAT QUEENS #8 will feature a wrap-around cover, will be available 8/6 for $3.50, and can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code JUN140495. SOUTHERN BASTARDS, early praise and excitement for the new crime series abounds

7/4/2014

Comments

Picture
Welcome to Craw County, Alabama: breeding ground for bastards and the setting of Jason Aaron (Scalped, Wolverine, The X-Men, Thor: God of Thunder) and Jason Latour’s (Loose Ends, Wolverine & The X-Men, Django Unchained) new ongoing crime series SOUTHERN BASTARDS. Comic creators and critics everywhere have already dubbed this forthcoming crime series a must-read. SOUTHERN BASTARDS #1 arrives in stores on 4/30 and is available for $3.50. It can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code FEB140475.

Advance praise for SOUTHERN BASTARDS:

"Jason Aaron and Jason Latour's Southern Bastards #1 was exactly the kind of pulp goodness I live for."

—Ed Brubaker (FATALE, Captain America)

"Can I just take a second to recommend Southern Bastards by the mighty Jason Aaron? Literally the best book I've read this month. Order!" —Mark Millar (STARLIGHT, JUPITER'S LEGACY, Kick-Ass)

"Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour made me both terrified and homesick. Fantastic start, boys."

—Matt Fraction (SEX CRIMINALS, Hawkeye)

"Southern Bastards is perfection. There's this great, slow menace to it. Southern Bastards #1is a perfect comic for you if you like to read... anything." —Scott Snyder (WYTCHES,Batman)

"You need Southern Bastards. Jason Aaron is back to southern-fried grit and Jason Latour is showing he’s one of the best cartoonists of our generation."
—Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, Punisher)

“The gushing about Southern Bastards is completely on point. Jason Aaron nails it (as usual), but Jason Latour is the rocketship here.”
—Jonathan Hickman (EAST OF WEST, Avengers)

“This series both pokes fun at and honors their shared roots. Aaron's gritty noir storytelling blends perfectly with Latour's sharp artwork, creating the ideal setting for a mesmerizing, down home crime story.”
—Comic Book Resources

“Southern Bastards #1 is an engrossing first issue, an unnerving introduction to what looks to be dark, violent, and sad. In other words, exactly what you want Aaron and Latour to be doing. A proper Southern Gothic hiding in the skin of a trash genre,Southern Bastards is a must-read.”
—ComicsAlliance

“Southern Bastards is totally worthy of insane hype. This is a book crafted with care on every level. It’s poignant and brutal. It’s over the top in all the right ways and completely subdued at the same time. It’s a beautiful dance in pacing that effortlessly shows how comics should be and need to be done.”

For those just discovering ALEX + ADA, it is easy to jump in from the beginning of the series, as the second printing of issue #1 is still in stock and available to order. Fans of the movie Her will be immediately drawn to this haunting and visceral science fiction story that explores what makes us human—and worthy of love.

The last thing in the world Alex wanted was an X5, the latest in realistic androids. But when Ada is dropped into his life, his feelings begin to change.

Praise for ALEX + ADA:
“Luna and Vaughn have taken what could have been a derivative story about androids and the humans who love them and turned it into a promising debut.”
—Melissa Grey, IGN

“The cliffhanger in Alex + Ada is excellent, and I'm hard pressed to imagine a reader that wouldn't be intrigued enough to come back for issue two to see exactly where Luna and Vaughn plan to take this story. On the whole Alex + Ada #1 is simply an excellent start to an exciting new book.”
—Kelly Thompson, Comic Book Resources

“A great comic should be the marriage of writing and art in service of the story, and Alex + Ada is a book that is burrowing its way into our hearts thanks to two creators working in lockstep. Try this book out for size. You might just find your new favorite book.”
—David Harper, Multiversity Comics

“Vaughn and Luna make this far more than it seems and you can see the inner struggle Alex is going through with life and the fact that he now has a lifelike female android, without that message being pounded over your head. This is definitely an intriguing story that we'll be keeping our eye on.”
—Tony Guerrero, ComicVine

MONSTERS & TITANS: BATTLING BOY ON TOUR

5/2/2014

A trade paperback collection for fans of the #1 New York Times bestselling BATTLING BOY

Picture
Paul Pope’s new graphic novel BATTLING BOY debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestselling list, and the original art is now the focus of a series of traveling art exhibits in the United States and Europe. Now Paul Pope enthusiasts can enjoy MONSTERS & TITANS: BATTLING BOY ON TOUR, a trade paperback that fans and collectors alike will want to own.

Praise for BATTLING BOY:

“The story is well balanced with tongue-in-cheek humor and epic battles, but heartfelt sincerity and humility when the dust settles. Pope perfectly matches the over-the-top and fantastical tone of the piece with gritty 1980s-style artwork, toxic coloring, and jagged inking.” —School Library Journal

“This is a sophisticated tale for younger readers, but Pope manages to both grant full-scale wish fulfillment and acknowledge the limitations of young boys with equal aplomb. His art, meanwhile, looks like nothing else in comics, with ropy, sinewy figures, dynamic action, and gritty urban design all captured in panels that have the rough, subversive tone of classic punk album covers.” —Booklist

"In Battling Boy, Pope has spun a smashingly beautiful adventure about a not-so-powerful boy-god sent down from the higher dimensions to save a crumbling city from the monsters that afflict it… Friends, this book is a number one stunner."
—Junot Díaz, Pulitzer-Prize winning author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

“Paul Pope’s delightful and original Battling Boy is the adventure of the year!”
—Jeff Smith, Eisner Award-winning author of Bone

“Full of energy, precision, and pure kick—not to be missed.”
—Scott Westerfeld, author of Uglies

“Pope is set to soar to glory.”
—Wired

“A new generation hero.”
—Entertainment Weekly

Collecting Pope’s large, lush original drawings photographed in detail from the actual art boards and with minimal editing, MONSTERS & TITANS features the art in its original format, with text in English, French, and Italian.

Also included in the volume is a critical essay from Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Charles Brownstein and an essay from Pope himself on his process, technique, and personal influences.

A must for any Paul Pope fan, student, fellow-artist, or fan of the medium, MONSTERS & TITANS is a breathtaking compilation and celebration of the original art of one of the most critically-acclaimed American cartoonists of all time.

MONSTERS & TITANS: BATTLING BOY ON TOUR (ISBN: 978-1-60706-944-7) will be available for $24.99 with Diamond Code JAN140554 and will hit shelves March 5.
