THE ART OF PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES CONFIRMED WITH DARK HORSE!
For the full press release hit the read more line at the bottom of the page.
Richie Reese takes method acting to a deadly level. Richie shocks his fellow celebrities and industry schmoozers when he rises above his past as a child actor and becomes a hitman, and finds more success at knocking people dead than he ever did in front of a camera. ONE-HIT WONDER #1 is the opening salvo in a new crime comedy miniseries written by Fabrice Sapolsky (Spider-Man Noir) and drawn by Ariel Olivetti (Cable, Punisher War Journal, Conan). Sharp, funny, sexy, and violent like the best of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie's work, ONE-HIT WONDER is what happens when one man crosses the line between fiction and reality.
Richie is not your average actor and leads a double life. Sapolsky was inspired by real world Hollywood residents when writing the character. “[In Los Angeles] many people are actors trying to break in. It's not rare to go to a restaurant and have waiters and waitresses who are actors and that kinda play a role when they serve you,” explained Sapolsky. “The idea of an actor who goes to the dark side and really become a hitman started to grow in my mind.”
Despite constantly being in different locations (often different hemispheres) Sapolsky and Olivetti worked well as collaborators. “Ariel is the best, he's amazing and super-fast too. He understands immediately how to do justice to a script. His art is quite unique on the market, no one draws like he does,” said Sapolsky. “I'm incredibly lucky that he not only agreed to work with me but also that he liked and supported the project all along. I provided him full scripts, he'd send me quick sketches, we'd talk about it then he'd go straight to final pages. And you could imagine that not living in the same country would be a problem, but it has never been an issue for us. I wrote the series between Paris and New York and for both locations, the time difference with Buenos Aires isn't really a big issue.”
ONE-HIT WONDER is Sapolsky’s first creator-owned book and Olivetti’s first international creator-owned series. “Image is the place to be for creators," added Sapolsky. "It was our first and only choice for that book.”
ONE-HIT WONDER #1 is the first of five issues in this new series and hits stores on February 26, 2014 for $3.50. Pre-orders can be placed using Diamond Code DEC130493.
Action and adventure await aboard The Venture! Set in 1938, Kel Symons (I LOVE TROUBLE) and Mathew Reynolds' (Marlow) new series THE MERCENARY SEA stars ex-bootlegger Captain Jack Harper and his crew of expats, mercenaries, and treasure hunters. They sail the South Seas at an uneasy time for the world, right when Japan has invaded China and War in Europe looks unavoidable. The Venture’s crew is a unique group of characters all with checkered pasts.
“There's definitely some conflict—perhaps mostly between Jack and Wulf, the venerable German sub captain who serves as his first officer,” said Symons. “But they're more or less a tight extended family. They're not pirates or ruffians—they're mercenaries, obviously out for a paycheck, but they have a strong moral compass guiding them.
” Inspiration for THE MERCENARY SEA came from various pop culture influences that Symons and Reynolds felt passionately about. “One of our guideposts for THE MERCENARY SEA was that we wanted to do a comic that was essentially like a lost Howard Hawks movie. A lot of Hawks' films deal with desperate men in far-flung places, away from any support or help, where they're forced to rely on themselves or fail: Only Angels Have Wings, The Thing from Another World,Rio Bravo, To Have and Have Not,” said Symons. “Howard Hawks was our spirit animal on this one.” Battling pirates, headhunters, spies, and soldiers, the crew is always one step away from the greatest score of their lives. But it might not be that way for long...
THE MERCENARY SEA #1 is the first in a new ongoing action/adventure series which will be available in stores on February 12, 2014 for $2.99. Pre-orders can be placed using Diamond Code DEC130492.

ALEX + ADA, UMBRAL, and MANIFEST DESTINY mark a banner week for fantasy and science-fiction comics and creator-owned comics
Three debut series from Image Comics, two fantasy and one science-fiction, were met with immediate enthusiasm from readers and received critical acclaim from the press. Among the three was the first issue of ALEX + ADA from Jonathan Luna (GIRLS, THE SWORD) and Sarah Vaughn (Sparkshooter), a science-fiction drama set in the near future about a man who forms a unique bond with an android. In light of its success, ALEX + ADA has been expanded from 12 issues to a 15-issue series.
Adding to the excitement, UMBRAL #1, a brand new dark fantasy adventure series from Antony Johnston (WASTELAND, Daredevil) and Christopher Mitten (WASTELAND, Batman) has enchanted fans. This story of a thief accidentally discovering the beginnings of a demonic invasion blends paranoia, magic, and dark prophecies.
Chris Dingess (Being Human) and up-and-coming artist Matthew Roberts’ MANIFEST DESTINY has sold out, as well. The newest genre-blending series from Skybound explores Lewis and Clark’s adventures in an untamed Western frontier where monsters lurk in the shadows. These new series instantly picked up momentum and found a strong readership.
Praise for ALEX + ADA #1:
“I'm hard pressed to imagine a reader that wouldn't be intrigued enough to come back for issue two to see exactly where Luna and Vaughn plan to take this story. On the whole Alex + Ada #1 is simply an excellent start to an exciting new book.” --Kelly Thompson, Comic Book Resources
“Luna and Vaughan have taken what could have been a derivative story about androids and the humans who love them and turned it into a promising debut.” --Melissa Grey, IGN
Praise for UMBRAL #1:
“The end result is exactly the combination of dreamworld and darkness readers would expect from a nightmare, giving the world a very distinct look and feel. Who needs the map in the front to establish a world when the art is this impressive?” --Marykate Jasper, Comic Book Resources
“Experimenting with genre conventions from Arthurian lore and Lovecraft, Johnson, Mitten, and Rauch have created a whole new fantasy world that is just ripe for stories.” --James Johnston, Multiversity Comics
Praise for MANIFEST DESTINY #1:
“Chris Dingess, Matthew Roberts and Owen Gieni have produced an opening issue that will pique your interest and get you invested in our heroes. This is the kind of trailblazing you won't want to miss.” --David Pepose, Newsarama
“What I liked the best is the unknown, and what lies ahead… I am anxious to see what happens when this creative team is given a chance to unleash the strange and dangerous beasts that even Lewis and Clark themselves could not have seen coming… Go pick up this issue, and see for yourself. It's well worth a read. Trust me.” --Jeremy James, Geeked Out Nation
ALEX + ADA #1, UMBRAL #1, and MANIFEST DESTINY #1 have all sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores, and are currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, and Android.
Image Comics is pleased to announce that all three titles will be going back to print to meet customer demand. The second printing of ALEX + ADA #1 (Diamond Code OCT138100) and MANIFEST DESTINY #1 (Diamond Code OCT138101) will release on 12/11, while the second printing of UMBRAL #1 (Diamond Code OCT138102) will release on 12/18.
ALEX + ADA #2 releases 12/11 and will be available for pre-order with Diamond Code OCT130591. MANIFEST DESTINY #2 releases 12/11 and will be available for pre-order with Diamond Code OCT130608. UMBRAL #2 releases 12/18 and will be available for pre-order with Diamond Code OCT130630.

With Atlantis now a world superpower, Anshargal and his hostage-protege Ukinnu Alal hunt the Amphibian, a legendary creature that may be the key to an air-breathing life on land. In UNDERTOW #1, writer Steve Orlando (MYSTERY IN SPACE) and artist Artyom Trakhanov bring pulp monster adventure to comics and debut a new take on Atlantis in this new series.
In UNDERTOW, Atlantis is a world superpower and breathing air is something of a rare phenomena. “UNDERTOW takes a lot of expectations about Atlantis fiction and turns them on their head. Here, Atlanteans evolved to the spot where humans are in our world, or maybe just a bit past it. This Earth is fundamentally different because of it, from the geography to the animals to the technology,” explained Orlando, “Atlantis has had to develop technology that can function underwater… Those who breathe water are the ruling power. And those who breathe air? Humans are a wild species, living like pack animals all over the surface, adapting to their environments. Wild, thick-coated polar humans, hairless tropical humans, even monstrous humans evolved from island gigantism. For Redum Anshargal, finding an Atlantean that can breathe air might just be his chance to give his people a shot at life on land, a chance to finally be free of Atlantis' corruption.”
Typically, Atlantis is thought of as “the lost city,” but in UNDERTOW, the opposite is true. “This was a chance to take Atlantis a few centuries into the present day, just like most other monarchies. And making it modern makes it a great way to show the truly strange face of the deep ocean,” said Orlando. “Now Atlantis can do what speculative fiction should--it can be a weird mirror to our own world, just a half step away--more relatable than ever before, and thus, even more frightening.”
For more info on what UNDERTOW is and where the idea came from, check out this interview with Steve Orlando on the official Image Comics website, imagecomics.com.

Johnston describes THE FUSE #1 as a blend of different influences. “I'm a sucker for detective stories, down-at-heel cop shows, and the kind of 'lived-in' sci-fi where everything feels like it might fall apart at any moment,” he explains. “Combine those with a frontier attitude, where a half million people all think they can get away with murder, and you've got THE FUSE.”
The creators worked together as a team and fed off of each other’s creativity. “The thing I love best about cop stories and crime comics is that ultimately they're about people, and that's where I think Antony and I tell our best stories,” said Greenwood. “Combine this with Shari Chankhamma's wonderful, atmospheric color sense and Ed Brisson's great lettering and you get the kind of comic that I know, as a fan, I'd want to check out myself.”
For the full interview visit the Image Comics website at: imagecomics.com.
In “THE RUSSIA SHIFT,” Part One, we’re introduced to the permanently understaffed and overworked murder police on board “The Fuse,” assigned to working a new frontier where the law struggles to be heard, let alone obeyed.

The stats recieved from Diamond showed other notable entries into the Graphic Novel section for Dark Horse with including the latest Avatar; the last airbender and Hellboy and the midnight circus and Image with the Saga series. However DC and Marvel still continue to dominate the sales figures but this month was a notable win for Image comics.

Joyce won the Best Fantasy Novel Award for Some Kind Of Fairy Tale, a story in which a young girl thought to have been abducted from the woodlands of the East Midlands returns to her family after twenty years [Gollancz; Paperback £7.99; e-Book £4.99].
Six months ago Joyce had the experience of being revived by an emergency resuscitation team at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Joyce said, “Just being able to stand here today is a wonderful award, thanks to the doctors and nurses of the NHS.”
In 1989 Joyce quit his job as a youth worker and went to live and write in a beachside shack on the Greek island of Lesbos. He sold his first novel after a year in Greece. Since then he has written twenty novels and numerous short stories. His novels have attracted admirers including Isabel Allende, Iain Banks, A S Byatt and Stephen King.

‘An author in full control of his considerable talents’ THE TIMES
‘In every sense a chiller’ THE INDEPENDENT
‘Compelling’ METRO

The first four issues of GHOSTED sold out at the distributor level within days of the initial release and garnered early accolades from the media:
"Ghosted is a horror book you need to read because it is horror done right. It’s part caper, part ghost story, and completely hilarious."
-Joshua Yehl, IGN
"Never letting the audience feel completely comfortable trusting any one character, Williamson constructs layers of deception that add to the mystery of the series."
-Sam LeBas, Multiversity Comics
"Artist Goran Sudzuka has an uncanny knack of rendering detail only where needed, without overpowering every panel with minutiae."
-Jim Johnson, Comic Book Resources
"[T]he reason why Ghosted is such a great read each issue is due in large part to some great art and Williamson’s ability to tell a great haunted house story mixed with a heist story–and, well, throwing in all kinds of other twists in there too."
-Matt LeMaire, The MacGuffin
"Ghosted is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. It's a fantastic concept that has really been delivering the past few months."
-Mat Elfring, ComicVine
