Picture
Dark Horse Comics announces the return of a fan-favoriteConan creative team: Writer Timothy Truman, artist Tomás Giorello, and colorist José Villarrubia are set to expand on Robert E. Howard’s unfinished “Wolves beyond the Border” tale!

King Conan grows weary of the crown. When an old soldier visits him with talk of a cursed relic and rumors of Pictish tribes preparing a full-scale invasion on Aquilonia’s borders, Conan eagerly embarks on what could be his final adventure!

King Conan: Wolves beyond the Border #1 (of 4) is in stores December 23, 2015. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop.

Praise for Timothy Truman, Tomás Giorello, and José Villarrubia:

“With both King Conan: The Scarlet Citadel and King Conan: The Phoenix on the Sword Truman, Giorello, and Villarrubia have been making some of the greatest Conan adaptations ever made.”—Comics Bulletin

“This comic really makes me remember what it was that originally drew me to the Barbarian. The sense of fun, larger than life gonzo action, imaginative storytelling, and a kind of high fantasy approach that’s grounded in big characters and 80s machismo that’s just infectiously delicious; highly recommended.”—Front Towards Gamer
“This book is dirty, nasty, gritty, and quite possibly the best Conan book Dark Horse Comics has ever put out.”—Newsarama

“King Conan is a triumph of execution, that places worthwhile odds within our hero’s epic quest. Highly recommended.”—Unleash the Fanboy

The first issue of the political science-fiction series flies off shelves, goes straight to second printing

Picture
New York Times bestselling and multiple Eisner-award winning writer Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA, PAPER GIRLS, PRIVATE EYE) and legendary storyboard artist Steve Skroce’s WE STAND ON GUARD’s action-packed military thriller about a future where a heroic band of Canadian civilians must defend their homeland from invasion launched to critical acclaim this summer and has been rushed to a second printing in order to meet customer demand.

Comic Book Resources raves, “We Stand on Guard #1 looks fantastic… [it’s] had high expectations tied into its very DNA and, overall, I think readers will be very pleased with what they find.” ComicList says, “We Stand On Guard has all the makings of a classic series.”

In WE STAND ON GUARD #1, it’s 100 years from now and a heroic band of Canadian civilians must defend their homeland from invasion… by the United States of America! The hyper-detailed combat between badass freedom fighters and giant f***ing robots begins in this spectacular 40-page first issue.

“The fact that a comic book about Canadian freedom fighters could sell out of more than 90K copies (with zero variant covers!) is a testament to Image, our heroic retailing partners, and most importantly Steve Skroce and the international team of superstars we're lucky enough to have as collaborators. Thanks so much to all the readers out there for supporting new creator-owned work. And if you haven’t checked out our epic miniseries yet, we’re not planning to collect the story anytime soon, so this new printing of #1 is the ideal way to get caught up on the Two-Four’s bloody campaign,” said Vaughan.

WE STAND ON GUARD #1 remains available for purchase across all digital platforms, including the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com), the official Image Comics iOS app, Comixology’s website (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

WE STAND ON GUARD #1, 2nd printing (Diamond Code AUG158130), arrives in stores on October 7th. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is September 14th.

WE STAND ON GUARD #2, (Diamond Code JUN150510) and WE STAND ON GUARD #3 (Diamond Code JUL150548) are available now.

WE STAND ON GUARD #4 (Diamond Code AUG150498) will be available on October 7th. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is September 14th.

DC Entertainment is excited to announce the sensational debut of a brand-new, bimonthly, overstuffed, oversized team-up series! We’re calling it HARLEY’S LITTLE BLACK BOOK. (#HarleysLittleBlackBook)

While in the midst of her fantastic 6-issue team-up with Power Girl (concludes November 2015), Harley is gearing up to meet (and almost certainly annoy) the greatest heroes and villains of the DC Universe!

First up: The incredible Wonder Woman! Written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti with art by Amanda Conner (and a bunch of people who owe her favors), HARLEY’S LITTLE BLACK BOOK #1 hits shelves on December 2, 2015.

But that’s just the tip of this Arkham-sized iceberg! HARLEY’S LITTLE BLACK BOOK will also tie into DC Entertainment’s ongoing monthly themed variant cover program with variants for 10 of DC Comics’ most popular titles. December’s variant cover theme will be HARLEY’S LITTLE BLACK BOOK, illustrated by a murderer’s row of the industry’s most talented artists. This unprecedented collection of comics will feature more than one open-to-order variant cover per title, all of which will be shipped in opaque black polybags.

For now, we’re going to let the artists themselves steal the show. But rest assured, Harley won’t let the spotlight off of herself for long!

Announcing a Kickstarter campaign for the science-fiction graphic novel CHROMA

10/9/2015

Comments

“The light breaks through,” promises CHROMA: VOLUME 1, the first in a trilogy of science-fiction graphic novels from Marcus Perry (creator of Image Comics’ DESCENDANT and ALBERT EINSTEIN: TIME MASON), acclaimed entertainment marketing editor and producer Bob Schulze, and artist Michael Yakutis (William Shatner's MAN O WAR, MakingComics.com). If funded through the now-live Kickstarter campaign, CHROMA will offer the epic scope and emotional resonance of sci-fi milestones like INTERSTELLAR and 2001, with a unique presentation and captivating art.  Set in a dystopian version of the future, CHROMA is the story of astronaut Paul Pearce, whose mission to explore an emerging black hole that could change our world rewrites his own destiny when it bestows him with seemingly unlimited abilities.

“We want to create a series that feels like the sciency-science fiction that we grew up with,” said creator and co-writer Bob Schulze.  “And balance that with the spectacle and emotion readers expect.”

“We’re presenting a version of the future that’s eerily possible, and we’ve anchored it with characters that are not only relatable but aspirational as well,” said co-writer Marcus Perry. “We think it’s a compelling allegory for the direction things could be headed.”

Rewards available exclusively through the CHROMA: VOLUME 1 Kickstarter campaign support a print run of the graphic novel, with additional profits going to the production of future installments. Incentives include original page art, sketches, scripts, the opportunity to be drawn into an issue, and even a VIP tour of a major Hollywood movie studio.

“The cinematic experience of this book is really special,” said Perry. “It’s immersive in a way that we haven’t seen before, and we think it will keep readers turning the pages.”  CHROMA: VOLUME 1 content will be available in a variety of formats including print, via ComiXology, or as a PDF, CBR, or ePub file, and will always be DRM-free.  Kickstarter exclusive versions will include bonus content not available anywhere else.

The Kickstarter announcement was made today in advance of Schulze and Perry’s appearance at Long Beach Comic Con this weekend, where the co-writers will appear on a panel entitled “Building A Better Blockbuster” Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 PM PT in Room 102 B/C along with Craig Miller, who started his career as a publicist for the motion picture industry, working on Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Crystal, Superman, Altered States, Splash and Steven L. Wagner, who is a writer-producer/editor at NBC Entertainment Marketing and Digital.

Details on the book

In a small mist-covered town in the Pacific Northwest three teenagers find themselves pitted against an unearthly menace that dwells beneath the foundations of their high school… Samuel Sattin's THE SILENT END is funny and poignant, a novel that contains elements of supernatural fiction, horror, young adult and literary fiction in order to create a genre-bending novel, recalling authors like Neil Gaiman, Rick Yancey, Patrick Ness, Stephen King, and early Jonathan Lethem.
Picture
High school is a challenge for senior Nathaniel Eberstark. His mother disappeared almost a year ago after a long battle with depression. And his father? He’s begun conducting experiments in a bunker out back, furtively running around town in army fatigues, accompanied by a mysterious man in Ray Bans known as The Hat, hunting beasts no one else can see. After an explosion rocks the town on Halloween, Eberstark, along with his only friends Lexi and Gus, discover in the woods something beyond comprehension, something that Eberstark in particular doesn’t want to believe since it may mean his father isn’t as mad as he appears: a wounded monster. Afraid of making a stir in a town that spurns controversy, they make a decision to hide the creature. By doing so they are dragged into a frightening web of conspiracy, dream-logic, and death. From living trucks and mirror-dwelling psychopaths to hellish entities who lurk behind friendly faces, Eberstark, Lexi, and Gus find themselves battling to save not just themselves but the soul of their backwater town.
Picture
Inventive and engaging, Samuel Sattin’s THE SILENT END will have you rooting for these three unlikely heroes as they battle monsters, town bullies, and teachers who expect homework done on time. High school can be lonely and scary, the future uncertain. But finding just one, maybe two true friends, can make all the difference.

“Samuel Sattin has written a young adult novel that's right over the plate for pop culture fans.”-BLEEDING COOL

“This is a book you and your kids can enjoy.”-KIRKUS, September Speculative Fiction Reading Pick

“Imagine if Halloween had been written by The Kids in The Hall instead of John Carpenter and you start to understand the wild, mesmerizing mash up that is The Silent End.”--Victor LaValle, author of The Devil in Silver

“Do not read this at night. Do not read this alone. But read it. Now."-Sean Beaudoin, author of The Infects

“I dreamed I climbed into a 1950s sci-fi rocket ship with Thomas Pynchon, Charles Dickens, H.P. Lovecraft, Jonathan Lethem, Rebalais, and the crew from Monty Python. I had so much fun and terror and tragedy and delight, I was ready for the booby hatch. You can't dream my dream, but you can get everything it gave me. All you've got to do is read Samuel Sattin.”-D. Foy, author of Made to Break

Why this has piqued our interest;
A splash of comedy is always welcome and from the title of this collection of stories by Jessie Eisenberg we expect to be entertained. Eisenberg reads the summary and its light hearted and flows to the point of drawing you in to the craziness.

Publisher's Summary

Bream Gives Me Hiccups is the whip-smart fiction debut of Academy Award-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg. Known for his iconic film roles but also for his regular pieces in the New Yorker and his two critically acclaimed plays, Eisenberg is an emerging literary voice.

Taking its title from a group of stories that begin the book, Bream Gives Me Hiccups moves from contemporary LA to the dorm rooms of an American college to ancient Pompeii, throwing the reader into a universe of social misfits, reimagined scenes from history, and ridiculous overreactions. In one piece, a tense email exchange between a young man and his girlfriend is taken over by his sister, who is obsessed with the Bosnian genocide ("The situation reminds me of a little historical blip called the Karadordevo agreement"); in another, a college freshman forced to live with a roommate is stunned when one of her ramen packets goes missing ("She didn't have one of my ramens. She had a chicken ramen"); in another piece Alexander Graham Bell has teething problems with his invention ("I've been calling Mabel all day, she doesn't pick up! Yes, of course I dialed the right number - two!").

United by Eisenberg's gift for humor and character, the witty pieces collected in Bream Gives Me Hiccups explore the various insanities of the modern world and mark the arrival of a fantastically funny, self-ironic, and original voice.

Upcoming Audible Studios Title; What Philosophy Can Do

Why this has piqued our interest

Philosphy is a pursuit of the mind which can often be overlooked when it comes to problem solving. In this title Author Gary Guttling tries to rectify this situation and this makes this a book we would very much like to dive into.

Publisher's Summary

A leading American philosopher brings the tools of his trade to contentious contemporary debates. How can we have meaningful debates with political opponents? How can we distinguish reliable science from overhyped media reports? How can we talk sensibly about God? In What Philosophy Can Do, Gary Gutting takes a philosopher's scalpel to modern life's biggest questions and the most powerful forces in our society - politics, science, religion, education, and capitalism - to show how we can improve our discussions of contentious contemporary issues.

Gutting introduces listeners to powerful analytic tools in the philosopher's arsenal that they can use to make new sense of current debates. One such tool is a crucial distinction between inductive and deductive reasoning that explains why both sides on a disputed issue often are sure they have compelling cases for their views. Another is the principle of charity, which requires opposing parties to present each other's arguments in their strongest forms - a tool that would make critiques both more respectful and more effective. Gutting also shows how concepts introduced by philosophers from Plato and Aristotle to Michel Foucault and John Rawls can clarify public discussions about morality, the economy, and medicine.

From informed assessments of scientific claims to careful analyses of arguments for and against religious belief, Gutting brings a calm, clear-headed approach to some of the most divisive issues on the table today. He scrutinizes our relationships to work and freedom in capitalism; our modern understanding of happiness and the good life; the value of liberal arts education and the humanities; the role of science and politics in shaping public policy today; and the value of art and popular culture. Perhaps most meaningfully, Gutting shows how we can talk about our own deepest beliefs clearly and directly while listening to what others have to say to us. What Philosophy Can Do makes a powerful case for philosophy's importance to public discussions and shows us that this ancient tradition of inquiry may yet have much to say about our future.

THE ART OF FABLE LEGENDS COMING FROM TITAN BOOKS

3/9/2015

Comments

UK publisher, Titan Books, has partnered with Microsoft owned video games developer, Lionhead Studios, for an art book, ‘THE ART OF FABLE® LEGENDS’, leveraging the mesmerizing graphics of Fable Legends, the much-anticipated new instalment in the ten year established BAFTA winning action and adventure series, Fable. This will be the most beautiful Albion yet and the book will showcase the rich environments and unique characters in the game as well as featuring a detailed game development history and interviews with key creators. Titan will also release a 500-copy, limited edition, version of the book featuring a unique high-end jacket, slipcase and collectible art print signed by the artist.

Building on the award winning franchise’s rich heritage Fable Legends is set to redefine games genres allowing four heroes to play cooperatively against a human or computer controlled villain over the Xbox Live multiplayer online service. The game is set to launch exclusively as a free-to-play title on PC (Windows 10) and Xbox One later this year. The graphics and breadth of the gameplay are that expected of a AAA title; nevertheless, the free-toplay format allows fans to play the full game, including all heroes in rotation without any in-game purchases.

‘THE ART OF FABLE LEGENDS’, written by Martin Robinson, offers fans of the game exclusive insight into its visual development through all stages of production as well as access to rarely seen art. The book will also feature detailed creator commentary from the Lionhead Studios art team, giving readers added insight into the evolution of the game.

“The Art of Fable Legends gives fans a complete look at the thrilling concepts and designs behind the game,” says Titan Books editor Omar Khan. “This is fantastical gameplay that takes its cues from European folktales, legends and fairy tales – always peppered with a charming, Monty Python-esque sense of humor."

Tinderbox, dedicated digital division of leading global brand extension agency, Beanstalk, was appointed as Fable’s licensing agent in 2014, bringing Lionhead Studios and Titan Books together.
