Douglas Rushkoff to Release Occult Graphic Novel “Aleister & Adolf”

This fall, Dark Horse Books is set to publish a perception-altering narrative from media maverick Douglas Rushkoff: Aleister & Adolf!

In Aleister & Adolf, media theorist and documentarian Douglas Rushkoff weaves a mind-bending tale of iconography and mysticism, set against the backdrop of a battle-torn Europe.

This all-new original graphic novel, beautifully rendered by Michael Avon Oeming (The Victories, Powers), views real-world history through a psychedelic occult lens.
In a story spanning generations and featuring some of the most notable and notorious idealists of the twentieth century, legendary occultist Aleister Crowley develops a powerful and dangerous new weapon to defend the world against Adolf Hitler’s own war machine—spawning an unconventional new form of warfare that is fought not with steel but with symbols and ideas. But these intangible arsenals are much more insidious—and perhaps much more dangerous—than their creators could have ever conceived.

Warren Ellis, author of Gun Machine, Red, Trees, and Transmetropolitan, says Rushkoff is “a cultural treasure and an eccentric author of big, strange ideas, never less than fascinating and always entertaining.”

Aleister & Adolf (978-1-50670-104-2) is in stores November 2, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop or through these fine retailers:

TITAN COMICS TEAMS WITH GAMES WORKSHOP® TO PUBLISH NEWWARHAMMER 40,000® COMICS!

19/2/2016

Comments

Picture
Beginning this September, Titan Comics is thrilled to announce it will be working with Games Workshop® to publish brand-new comics based in the world of Warhammer 40,000™.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war! First brought to life as an epoch-definingly popular tabletop miniature wargame in 1987, Warhammer 40,000’s dark-gothic dystopian science-fiction universe pits an outnumbered human Imperium and its sometimes-allies against the eternal forces of Chaos, in a battle for control of the forty-first millennium.

The Games Workshop brand boasts an annual revenue of over $170 million, with 3,700 independent retailers carrying Games Workshop products in 52 countries.

Now in its seventh edition of the tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000 continues to grow from strength to strength, gathering fans across the world to its banner, under the aegis of the game, across hundreds of popular novels, in board games and RPGs from Fantasy Flight, and in fan-favorite videogames like the Dawn of War series. Numerous top-selling apps featuring the Warhammer 40,000 IP are also available for iOS and Android.

Aimed at fans and newcomers alike, Titan’s new series taps into Warhammer 40,000’s wealth of compelling characters, species, and searingly-memorable imagery to deliver accessible science-fiction action on an unmatched galactic canvas.

Whether it’s the iconic, power-armor-encased Space Marines holding the line against unspeakable forces of xenos; the frothing, Daemonic intensity of Chaos, corrupting all they touch; the squabbling, bodged-together Orks, riding roughshod over far-flung colonies; the exotic, long-lived Eldar wielding rare weaponry and rarer insight; the idealistic, mech-piloting forces of the Tau; the undying, endoskeletal hordes of the Necrons, or the starving forces of unnature, like the Tyranids, spitting death and destruction with every spurt of their chitinous cannons, the Warhammer 40,000 setting offers horrifying surprises and stunning sights at every turn – and the comics will explore them all!

Announced at ComicsPRO retailer summit in Portland, Oregon, the Games Workshop partnership will see the publication of brand-new, original comic stories produced by Titan Comics, who add Warhammer 40,000 to their expanding catalogue of wildly-successful licensed comics based on gaming properties including Assassin’s Creed, Deus Ex, and Dark Souls.

Look for more announcements of the creative team behind the first ongoing very shortly!

TITAN COMICS ANNOUNCE NEWPARTNERSHIP WITH HAMMER!

19/2/2016

Comments

Beginning this Halloween 2016, Titan Comics is thrilled to announce it will team up with world-renowned Hammer to breathe new life into some of their iconic characters.

Founded in 1934, the legendary British studio Hammer Films produced hundreds of motion pictures across many genres including science fiction, psychological and supernatural thrillers, films noir and even historical epics.  However, the famous brand gained its worldwide reputation – and became hugely impactful across popular culture – with an array of now-classic gothic horror films including The Quatermass Experiment, The Gorgon, The Devil Rides Out, and a string of motion pictures featuring iconic monsters Frankenstein, The Mummy andDracula; the latter of which made its stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing into household names.

The quintessentially British Gothic aesthetic of these Hammer films, went on to inspire generations of filmmakers including Roger Corman, Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro, has left such an imprint on the genre that the term "Hammer Horror" became shorthand for a visual style consisting of creepy castles and boiling blood!

Since its rebirth in 2008, Hammer’s new film output has included the worldwide box office smash The Woman in Black and its sequel The Woman in Black: Angel of Death – a global franchise born from Susan Hill’s celebrated gothic novella – as well as the critically lauded vampire film Let Me In, and folk horror Wake Wood, as well as the paranormal thriller The Quiet Ones.

Announced at ComicsPRO retailer summit in Portland, Oregon, the partnership will see the publication of brand-new comic stories featuring classic Hammer properties, as well as wholly original Hammer stories, produced by Titan.

Editor David Leach said, "at Titan Comics we're howling at the moon over this bold new collaboration! Hammer is the home of some of the most groundbreaking horror and genre films in motion picture history. Together we're going to make some terrifyingly good comics."

Fittingly, the creators and properties involved are still wreathed in shadow, and those interested in further news and developments on the initiative should join Titan Comics on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.

Neil Gaiman calls I HATE FAIRYLAND, VOLUME 1: MADLY EVER AFTER "dangerously funny"

18/2/2016

Comments

From the superstar New York Times bestselling cartoonist Skottie Young (Rocket Raccoon, Wizard of Oz, Fortunately, The Milk), comes the first volume of an all-new series of adventure and mayhem. This collects issues #1-5 and will be available in April.

I HATE FAIRYLAND, VOLUME 1: MADLY EVER AFTER is an Adventure Time/Alice in Wonderland-style epic that smashes its cute little face against grownup Tank Girl/Deadpool-esque violent madness. Follow Gert, a forty-year-old woman in a six-year-old’s body, who has been stuck in the magical world of Fairyland for nearly thirty years. Join her and her giant battleaxe on a delightfully bloodsoaked journey to see who will survive the girl who HATES FAIRYLAND.

I HATE FAIRYLAND, VOLUME 1: MADLY EVER AFTER (ISBN 9781632156853) hits comic book stores on Wednesday, April 20th and bookstores on Tuesday, April 26th, and will be available for $9.99. It can be ordered by retailers from Diamond Book Distributors with Diamond code JAN160644. It can be preordered now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indigo, and Indiebound.
Praise for I HATE FAIRYLAND:
“I Hate Fairyland is pure uncut Skottie Young awesomeness. Like a bag of Angel Dust in comic book form. Only Crazier.” —Jason Aaron

"In this business of comics, cartoonists are the purest practitioners of craft. They blend words and pictures in a way that shouldn't be possible; they make magic. Skottie Young is a master cartoonist, and this book is a masterpiece." —Jonathan Hickman

“Awesomely twisted—irreverent and inventive and crazy fun.” —Scott Snyder

“Just read the first issue of my buddy Skottie Young’s new Image Comics book I Hate Fairyland: just pure, distilled FUN from cover to cover” —Francesco Francavilla

“I Hate Fairyland is diabolically engaging and sick and twisted and lovely in that in every single way possible.” —Blastr

“I Hate Fairyland is like Candyland seen through the prism of John Kricfalusi. It's filled with the dark humor that we've come to love and expect from the likes of Lenore and Invader Zim. It takes the tropes from classic children's tales and kicks them right in the balls before ripping their hearts right out.” —Horror Talk

“I Hate Fairyland is sculpted out of Skottie Young’s rainbow-colored brain meat and then hammer-smashed into the pages of a comic book.” —Dennis Hopeless

Picture
2016 marks the thirtieth anniversary of Dark Horse Comics, and it’s time to party!

To celebrate, Dark Horse is proclaiming Saturday, June 4, 2016, to be “Dark Horse Day,” with events happening in comic shops around the country! We are inviting our retail partners to celebrate with us by offering exclusive promotional materials, ordering discounts on Dark Horse Comics backlist titles, and a commemorative Dark Horse Day Sampler comic!

“Just over thirty years ago, I gathered a group of would-be collaborators in the restaurant I owned and told them I was going to start a comics company. I’m not sure whether their smiles were a result of excitement over the possibilities or amusement at the thought of it, but here we are all these years later making comic books,” remarked Dark Horse president and publisher Mike Richardson. “It’s been an amazing journey and we’ve witnessed extraordinary changes both in the comics market and in our pop culture over three decades. We’re excited to still be spending our lives in the career we love, and we hope that you all will help us celebrate thirty years of comics.”

As Dark Horse Comics turns thirty, we present a look back at some of our top titles from past decades in an exclusive Dark Horse Day Sampler comic featuring classic stories including Aliens vs. Predator: Blood Time (1994), by Randy Stradley and Phill Norwood, Sin City: Daddy’s Little Girl (1996), by Frank Miller, andThe Umbrella Academy: Anywhere but Here (2008), by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá! Plus: a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer tale by Christos Gage! The forty-page Dark Horse Day Sampler comic features a special cover by Steve Morris and will be available in comic shops everywhere on June 4.

“It’s hard to believe it has been thirty years—mainly because the memories of seeing our first comics on the stands and going to conventions and meeting fans for the first time are still so clear. If you’re a Dark Horse fan, or if you’ve ever been a Dark Horse fan, I hope you join us for this milestone celebration!” added Dark Horse vice president of publishing Randy Stradley.

Fans: Make sure to tell your retailer you want your local store to participate in this awesome celebration!
Retailers: Look for the April cover-dated issue of Previews for details on participation levels, along with promotional support being offered by Dark Horse for the event!

Writer Tom King, Artists Clay Mann and John Timms “Taking Their Talents”to DC Entertainment

18/2/2016

Picture
DC Entertainment announced today the signing of writer Tom King and fan favorite artists Clay Mann and John Timms to exclusive deals to produce their comic book work solely for the DC Comics and Vertigo imprints.

“DC Entertainment is proud and thrilled to secure the services of these amazing talents,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee. “Speaking personally as a fan of their impressive work, I couldn’t be more thrilled to have them on board for the long haul. We’ve seen the incredible fan response thus far and all I can add is: hold on tight, this is just the beginning!”

Tom King has quickly become a fan favorite writer, making a mark with his edgy, dramatic work on OMEGA MEN, GRAYSON (with co-writer Tim Seeley), ROBIN WAR and Vertigo’s SHERIFF OF BABYLON. The former CIA intelligence operative now calls DC his exclusive home, and will play a major role in the new REBIRTH initiative scheduled for June.

"To me, DC is Superman. DC is Batman. DC is Wonder Woman. DC is Swamp Thing, The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, All Star Superman, The New 52 and The Court of Owls,” said Tom King. “DC is where the great comics get made. I'm honored and proud to be part of that tradition, and I'm going to do my best to deliver my best work ever. I can't wait for people to see what's coming."
In addition to signing King, DC also brought two rising star artists – Clay Mann and John Timms – into their ranks of top talent.  After producing spectacular covers on such titles as BATGIRL and BATMAN ETERNAL, artist Clay Mann made his blockbuster interior art debut on POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH written by Amy Chu, propelling issue #1 into its second printing. Breakout artist John Timms now also calls DC his new home after creating incredible cover and interior art for HARLEY QUINN, HARLEY QUINN VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL and HARLEY QUINN’S LITTLE BLACK BOOK.

“Clay’s rock solid structure and keen eye for composition really made his work stand out,” noted DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee. “And I really love John’s expressive figure work and fresh, kinetic energy. Their styles are different but they both accomplish the same goal – they simply pull the readers directly into the story, and that’s exactly what we need more of.”

King, Mann and Timms will be joining an already impressive roster of DC-exclusive talent, including writer/artist Bryan Hitch (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA), writer Peter Tomasi (DETECTIVE COMICS, SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN) and artist Tony Daniel (DEATHSTROKE, SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN).

“We are truly excited to bring the Witcher 3 characters to life! Wild Hunt fans requested figures of Geralt, Ciri, Yen, and other collectibles multiple times, and now, thanks to this cooperation, we’re finally able to fulfill these requests without putting an arm and a leg on the price tag. I truly hope Witcher fans notice all the love and the excellent craftsmanship put into creating them!” said Rafał Jaki, business development manager for CD Projekt RED.
The first Witcher figures to be released are Geralt, Triss, and Yennefer, followed by Ciri and the Wild Hunt King, Eredin. Each will be designed to the character’s likeness, custom painted, and displayed in deluxe window box packaging with a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Dark Horse Comics has published multiple Witcher tie-ins, including two comic series turned graphic novels in The Witcher: House of Glass and The Witcher: Fox Children, as well as a best-selling art book, The World of The Witcher.
“Although Dark Horse has been bringing Witcher forward as graphic novels and art books for a couple of years, we have only begun exploring Geralt of Rivia’s world. And there is quite a world to explore! We are developing a variety of collectible products, in conjunction with the team at CD Projekt RED, with the initial launch of figures as the portal,” noted Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “We are planning a colorful and untamed range of high-quality enhancements to one of the most beautiful and original games we have seen. We hope this journey is a long one, and that fans will join us for the ride.”
The Witcher games have collectively earned over 250 industry awards and have sold millions of copies worldwide. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in May 2015 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One and was named Game of the Year by IGN, GameSpot, Metacritic, and the Golden Joystick awards.

An all-new series about one girl robot who must save humanity

Picture
Bestselling writer Kevin McCarthy and artist Kyle Baker (Plastic Man) team up for an all-new series, CIRCUIT-BREAKER, launching from Image Comics this March.
CIRCUIT-BREAKER #1 is set in the aftermath of World War IV, where the heroic robots that saved Japan during war are outlawed. Now they’re turning against mankind, waging a campaign of terror across the last city on Earth.

“If Circuit-Breaker isn’t the best Shakespearean-Sentai, shōjo-shōnen superhero, soap-opera satire on the market, it’s at least in the alliteration. I mean, the conversation,” said McCarthy.
Meanwhile the vengeful robots’ original creator builds one more soldier—disguised as his teenaged granddaughter—and tasks her with dismantling the marauding mechanical militia. But as she begins to question her programming, will she be the last hope for humanity, or the final nail in our coffin?
McCarthy went on to describe the creative process of working with Baker. “The real hero here is my fellow Circuit-maker, Kyle Baker. There’s a lot going on in this book, and he took every one of my crazy ideas and obscure references and brought them to (artificial) life. I’m excited for everyone to see this book.”
McCarthy added: “Readers can expect our story to take a lot of left turns. So many in fact, that we made a complete... circuit? (Sorry.)”

CIRCUIT-BREAKER #1 (Diamond Code JAN160521) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, March 16. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, February 22.

Comics’ Best Contribute Their Talents As Miller/Azzarello/Kubert/Janson Saga Continues

Book 3 of the upcoming issue of DARK KNIGHT III  introduces Quar, the renegade fanatic priest of Kandor. Unwittingly freed and restored to normal size by Ray Palmer, Quar and his acolytes stake their claim to the planet Earth and demand nothing less than absolute obedience from the human race!

All that stands in the way is a (seriously) hobbled Bruce Wayne and Carrie Kelley, and they’ll need serious help, so they’re heading to a certain Fortress of Solitude to get it…

In addition to Andy Kubert’s awesome cover, several fan-favorite artists have lined up to contribute their talents for several unique variant covers for Book 3 (see your local comics retailer for details):

1 in 10 variant cover by Scott McDaniel
1 in 25 variant cover by Klaus Janson
1 in 50 variant cover by John Romita Jr.
1 in 100 variant cover by Frank Miller
1 in 500 variant cover by Jim Lee

This third chapter is co-written by Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello, with pencils by Andy Kubert and inks by Klaus Janson. In addition to the Book 3 periodical on sale in February, the Collector’s Edition hardcover which publishes both the main story and the mini-comic (DARK KNIGHT UNIVERSE PRESENTS: GREEN LANTERN) in a same-size “prestige” format goes on sale March 9.
