Preview PagesTo celebrate the 21st anniversary of Mike Mignola's legendary Hellboy character, Dark Horse Comics and Rogue Ales have collaborated to create the RIGHT HAND OF DOOM, a limited edition beer that will be available online beginning February 22, 2015 at www.rogue.com.
“When Dark Horse Comics published the first Hellboy story 21 years ago, I never thought there’d be a Hellboy beer,” said Mignola. “But I really can’t imagine a better time for Rogue to introduce the Right Hand of Doom beer. If Hellboy was real I guess he’d finally be able to buy me a beer.” “Hellboy has appeared in graphic novels and comic books, prose novels, two animated features, two live action films, toy lines and all manner of merchandise,,” said Mike Richardson, President of Dark Horse. “Rogue Ales approached us with the idea of creating a heavy-handed, supernatural red ale and we loved the idea of two independent, Portland based companies coming together to create something new that would be both fun for fans and worthy of the Mike Mignola’s creative legacy.” “This beer is dedicated to the B.P.R.D,” said Brett Joyce, President of Rogue Ales. “RIGHT HAND OF DOOM is brewed with all the same passion and intensity that Mike Mignola and Dark Horse have brought to Hellboy for the past 21 years.” The RIGHT HAND OF DOOM label features a Hellboy drawing by Mignola. The beer will be available for the first time publicly at an event at Things From Another World Comics store in Portland on Friday, February 20 at a signing with Mignola and fellow comic book superstars Matt Kindt (MIND MGMT), Eric Powell (THE GOON) and Brian Wood (REBELS). The event begins at 4 PM, with Mignola’s signing scheduled for 6 PM. The beer will be available nationally via http://buy.rogue.com/Rogue-Hellboy-Right-Hand-of-Doom-Red-Ale; pre-orders are now available.

Gateway to welcome classic SF & Fantasy authors from Orbit, Hodder & Stoughton and Headline12/2/2015
In Gateway’s on-going efforts to make the website the ultimate source of classic SF and Fantasy, the imprint are delighted to welcome an outstanding selection of authors from Orbit, Hodder & Stoughton and Headline to the site. Darren Nash, the Publisher of Gateway, said: “As well as adding wonderful new authors to the list, this expansion has also allowed Gateway to fill some major gaps in our existing Gateway authors' oeuvres – most notably, adding 2001: A Space Odyssey to Arthur C. Clarke's offering, The Left Hand of Darkness to Ursula K. Le Guin's and some seminal works to our Robert A. Heinlein listing – including Hugo-winners Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.” The full list of new authors, whose works are live on the Gateway site from today, includes: Jean M. Auel Iain M. Banks Ben Bova David Brin Terry Brooks Orson Scott Card Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Celia Friedman David Gemmell Tom Holt Robert Jordan Richard Laymon Ken MacLeod Gregory Maguire Jack McDevitt Elizabeth Moon Last week, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) committee published their much-anticipated 2015 Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. Not surprisingly, given the tremendous success of Dark Horse’s 2014 publishing line, the publisher landed five titles on this year’s list, with one making it into the top ten--47 Ronin!
This year’s Dark Horse selections are as follows: 47 Ronin. By Mike Richardson. Illus. by Stan Sakai. $19.99 (978159582954). The Japanese legend of the 47 Ronin and their epic mission to avenge their wronged master. Sally Heathcote, Suffragette. By Mary Talbot. Illus. by Kate Charlesworth. $19.99 (9781616555474). Sally Heathcote is drawn into the politics of the women’s suffrage movement in early 1900s England. The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story By Vivek Tiwary. 2013, illus by Andrew C Robinson. M Press, $19.99, (9781616552565). Worldwide phenomenon The Beatles hit the big time with the help of an extraordinary and secretive manager. Baltimore Vol. 3: A Passing Stranger and Other Stories. By Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden. 2013, illus. by Ben Stenbeck. $24.99 (9781616551827). Lord Henry Baltimore battles monsters in his search for the vampire that killed his family. Breath of Bones: A Tale of the Golem. By Steve Niles. Illus. by Dave Wachter. $14.99 (9781616553449). A Jewish village brings to life a giant monster to defend themselves against the Nazis. “The libraries have always been an important market for Dark Horse books, so it is especially gratifying when our titles are selected for YALSA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens list,” said Dark Horse’s VP of book trade sales, Michael Martens. “This is a real achievement because we know the selection is based on the merits of the books, as perceived by the committee members who actually read them and feel they will circulate well. Having one in the top ten is the icing on the cake.” Dark Horse congratulates the editors, writers, and artists who worked on each of the above titles and thanks the Young Adult Library Services Association for recognizing these works. By Phil Cole The Road to Jove is a new webcomic from the mind of Aaron Dembski-Bowden (@adembskibowden) and the digital paintbrush of David Sondered (@Colrouphobia).
At only three pages long, it’s as fresh as a web comic can get, yet in these three pages they’ve already managed to grab hold of the quivering mass that is my brain and have me wanting more, MORE DAMMIT. The art is gorgeous, typical of Sondered’s other illustrations (see the blog here: http://studiocolrouphobia.net/). Broad brushstrokes give off a sketchbook vibe but with just the right amount of detail to draw you into the image. So far we are but a few pages into the prologue so there is but the barest of bare bones of a story on display but with words like Apostate and gods being thrown around, along with the post-apocalyptic hints and pieces and my love of all Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s work over at Black Library, I’m very firmly in the interested camp. You can find the comic at www.roadtojove.com, which updates every Friday ,and I highly recommend checking it out. CELEBRATING THE BEST OF BRITISH COMICS!
