“We want to create a series that feels like the sciency-science fiction that we grew up with,” said creator and co-writer Bob Schulze. “And balance that with the spectacle and emotion readers expect.”
“We’re presenting a version of the future that’s eerily possible, and we’ve anchored it with characters that are not only relatable but aspirational as well,” said co-writer Marcus Perry. “We think it’s a compelling allegory for the direction things could be headed.”
Rewards available exclusively through the CHROMA: VOLUME 1 Kickstarter campaign support a print run of the graphic novel, with additional profits going to the production of future installments. Incentives include original page art, sketches, scripts, the opportunity to be drawn into an issue, and even a VIP tour of a major Hollywood movie studio.
“The cinematic experience of this book is really special,” said Perry. “It’s immersive in a way that we haven’t seen before, and we think it will keep readers turning the pages.” CHROMA: VOLUME 1 content will be available in a variety of formats including print, via ComiXology, or as a PDF, CBR, or ePub file, and will always be DRM-free. Kickstarter exclusive versions will include bonus content not available anywhere else.
The Kickstarter announcement was made today in advance of Schulze and Perry’s appearance at Long Beach Comic Con this weekend, where the co-writers will appear on a panel entitled “Building A Better Blockbuster” Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 PM PT in Room 102 B/C along with Craig Miller, who started his career as a publicist for the motion picture industry, working on Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Crystal, Superman, Altered States, Splash and Steven L. Wagner, who is a writer-producer/editor at NBC Entertainment Marketing and Digital.
