Amazon Publishing’s Kindle Worlds, the first commercial platform for licensed fan fiction, is excited to announce that Peace in Amber by USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Hugh Howey will publish on January 14, 2014. Set in The World of Kurt Vonnegut and inspired by the story of Billy Pilgrim and the Tralfamadorians in Slaughterhouse-Five (Vonnegut’s semi-autobiographical account of his experience during the firebombing of Dresden after he was captured by the Germans in World War II), Howey transforms Vonnegut’s classic novel into an extraordinarily powerful and personal narrative of his own experience on September 11, 2001, when he was working as a Yacht Captain beneath the shadow of the World Trade Center.
"Slaughterhouse-Five moved me as few works of fiction ever have,” says Hugh Howey. “It was the autobiographical nature of the work, this exploration of Dresden's bombing through the eyes of a survivor. I don't think I would have found the courage to write about my 9/11 experience without Vonnegut's work as an example."
Howey’s bestselling dystopian novel Wool (the first novel in the Silo Saga trilogy) was a #1 bestseller in the Kindle store and is one of the most-reviewed science fiction novels on Amazon, with almost 7,000 customer reviews. The graphic novel adaptation of Wool will release from Jet City Comics on February 11, 2014. After completing the trilogy with the publication Dust last August, Howey licensed the Silo Saga universe to Kindle Worlds. Peace in Amber is Howey’s first story in another author’s World.
