The trouble for new IP's is creating a strong enough player base to keep their product moving. As it stands Titanfall is already a little hamstrung as it is a Microsoft exclusive and this limits the market that will get actual hands on with the game. Enter trans media by linking with a toy creator like K'nex the folks at Respawn have started tapping into their future market. For a single game to become a franchise you need to engage these future clients as they will be the new players for the next instalment. If they already know the name then the likelihood of them opting for your franchise is raised significantly and that is half the battle already won. The rest is of course up to the game to hang on to the new entrants. Of course from what I have seen these are great toys in their own right and at the very least we should be getting some great new additions to the K'nex world. |
