The Walking Dead has always had a mix of action and talking head scenes. The infamous second season pushed the talking head scenario to the limit but as the seasons have gone on the mix has reached an almost perfect balance between melodrama and conflict. This judgement is based on the idea of a season as a whole because for each episode to be excellent would be nigh on impossible. Thankfully episode 609 is on the higher end of the scale, the action is interspersed with character development and moments of anxiety that are sure to cost more than a few fingernails.

The highlight of the episode is the way writer Seth Hoffman and Director Greg Nicotero are able to sort through the variety of story threads that were left over from episode 8. From Glenn’s return to the appearance of Negan’s gang in the series. Some of the outcomes will feel welcome but in true Walking Dead fashion not all.

Obviously we promised no spoilers and don’t worry I will not break that promise but there is one central part of the show that does need a mention and that is the town of Alexandria. The very layout of the streets and houses allow for a backdrop that is compelling to watch. From quiet basements to large intersections seemingly every square inch of the set is utilised as the episode goes on.

If I was going to sum No Way Out in one word it would be; Explosive.
