Deadpool is coming to Marvel Pinball to bring some Zen (Studios) back to the Silver Ball

17/6/2014

Picture
He may not be everyone's cup of tea but the self referential Marvel anti-hero Deadpool has been given his own Pinball table.

In true Deadpool style he introduces and comments over his own trailer which you can see below as well as a few screenshots.

Look out next week when the game drops for our review.

Telltale Games, Skybound Entertainment, and Zen Studios  to create a new table based on the Walking Dead

4/6/2014

Two of the best users of licensed properties in gaming have teamed up to bring a new take on Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead. Telltale's the Walking Dead was a revelation in story telling when it was first released and Zen Studios are masters of the Silver Ball.
The new partnership announced today will see Zen create a table based on Telltale's series and it is looking nasty to say the least.
The trailer below will help you understand and keep your eyes peeled for more news.
The pinball masters at Zen Studios have partnered with leading developer of digital entertainment Telltale Games and Robert Kirkman, the Eisner Award-winning creator and writer of The Walking Dead for his Skybound imprint at Image Comics, to create an all-new digital pinball table based on the award-winning The Walking Dead game series, continuing an age-old tradition in celebrating some of the biggest icons in entertainment on the classic pinball playfield.

A true collaborative effort, both Zen and Telltale have worked together on each detail of the table design, sharing ideas and fusing their passion to bring the story and choice-driven gameplay of The Walking Dead: Season One journey to the playfield. Touring locations from Clementine's treehouse and Everett's pharmacy in Macon, all the way down the tracks to the walker-infested streets of Savannah, players will find an authentic tour of Season One capturing the peril and drama of Lee and Clementine's story.

"Zen Studios is a huge admirer of Telltale Games, and we truly cherish the opportunity to work with such amazing visionaries," said Mel Kirk, Vice President of Publishing at Zen Studios. "Working with Telltale's The Walking Dead is a hallmark moment as we continue our quest to create the most memorable and authentic pinball experiences."

The Walking Dead Pinball table features choice-driven gameplay across each of Season One's five episodes, along with original story dialogue from the award-winning cast.  Scenarios include choosing who to save and who to leave behind in a walker attack, solving problems and keeping up morale within the group, searching for food and supplies, acquiring important tools, and navigating through the herd amidst an oncoming walker breach.

"Zen knocked it out of the park with their interpretation Telltale's first season of The Walking Dead as a pinball table," said Steve Allison, SVP of Publishing at Telltale Games. "Players once again get to step into the shoes of Lee Everett and protect Clementine as all the major events of season one play a role in the first ever pinball game that features choice and consequence gameplay."

The Walking Dead Pinball table will be demonstrated at this year's E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo, and those in attendance can get a sneak peek hands on at Telltale's booth in the Concourse Hall.

The Walking Dead Pinball table will be available for download later this summer on Zen Studios pinball platforms across console, PC, and mobile stores.

On December the 18th Marvel Pinball is going to get a little a (Dr) Strange

11/12/2013

Picture
Doctor Strange is a wonderfully flawed character from the Marvel universe and one who I wish had a current ongoing series. The surreal adventures he gets up to along with their psychedelic nature should allow Zen the chance to really go to town and the video below seems to support this idea.

The game will be coming to a plethora of systems on the 18th of December.

BC Weekly Update 20/10/13 Games

20/10/2013

We have had three notable releases over the last few weeks, Telltale Game's The Wolf Among Us, Quantic Dream's Beyond; 2 Souls and Zen Studios Star Wars Pinball. We also welcomed a new writer to the site Dorian who opens up the reviews with a review of Beyond 2 Souls;

Beyond; 2 Souls

Picture
The vision of Quantic Dreams is quite a thing to behold. They try to create games in a unique style that can leave some flat and other drooling.
To see if their latest effort could hold its own take a trip to our review.

The Wolf Among Us

Picture
In terms of narrative The Walking Dead pushed Telltale up with the best developers in the world.
However the Walking Dead has left a burning question can the developer continue to produce experiences that can rival the best of was their adaptation of Robert Kirkman's world a fluke.
Now we have the chance to find out as they take on another comic tale this time drawing from Fables by Bill Wilingham in The Wolf Among Us.

Early Impression; STAR WARS® PINBALL: BALANCE OF THE FORCE

Picture
This is a very early view and we will be creating individual reviews for all of the Zen Pinball tables over the coming weeks and beyond. However today the Balance of the Force pack dropped and I have spent some time on each table.
Just for transparency all the scores are form my first full game on the table and I played on the Vita (My platform of choice for Pinball) with the view 4 option selected.

This is a very early view and we will be creating individual reviews for all of the Zen Pinball tables over the coming weeks and beyond. However today the Balance of the Force pack dropped and I have spent some time on each table.

Episode VI

Picture

Score; 16,386,974

Of the original trilogy Return of the Jedi is usually the lowest ranked film and of the three tables its my least favourite.
Its very well presented with a tough opening trick shot but the table feels too wide for the Vita screen. Its a small thing but it really shows as the other tables all feel ideally suited. Otherwise the basic gameplay feels very safe with the specials creating all the buzz.
I can see it may grow on me but I will have to move from usual view

Darth Vader

The most striking thing about this table is the ambient lighting. The glowing red floor creates a menacing table and feels perfectly suited to the character it depicts. The table is pretty fast with a compact set of set in the center.
The specials are based around Vader specific scenes from the Trilogy and they play out with Zen's usual panache. I can see my score growing a lot bigger as it was just silly mistakes that cost.
The Highlight of the table has to be the multiball sections but I will not spoil why except to say Glow.

Score; 107,097,928

Picture

StarFighter Assault

Picture

Score; Rebellion, 41,993816
Score; Empire, 48,772,780

The two scores above are pretty much the reason I love this table. It defines balance with half the table being for the Empire and the Rebellion on the other. However if you think this is the only duality to the table you will be mistaken. At the start you get to decide which Starfighter you will control and this changes the look of the bumpers (they are in the shape of Canons) to the voices and even the Space Invader style mini game. This is my favourite of the three and I know my score will be climbing on bothsides
Overall for £7.99 I can highly recommend the Balance of the force pack, the three tables have the usual polish and will offer a great challenge. Look out for the full reviews coming soon

Zen Studio's are returning to the Marvel universe in December with a dose from the Doctor (Strange that is)

13/10/2013

Picture
With Zen's recent focus on Star Wars you could be forgiven for thinking they had left the Marvel universe behind. However at NYCC this weekend Zen came back with a bang showing the new Doctor Strange table due for release in December. Its looking like a complex range of ramps with the fireworks we have come to expect from the Pinball masters. Loook oit for further news and reviews on the table in the coming weeks (months)

Zen Studios are going to Endor for Episode VI

23/9/2013

Picture
Zen Pinball is bringing a new series of tables to the Star Wars Pinball set. Return of the Jedi is looking very interesting as the screens and trailer show.

Zen's use of 3D models around the screen make the periphery of the screen look slightly cluttered at times but every time you start a bonus level it all becomes worth it.

We will be bringing you reviews of as many of the tables as we can in the near future and Episode VI will hopefully be near the top of our favourite tables.
