“Sunset Overdrive” shows you how to enjoy the Awesomepocalypse with friends in a new Chaos Squad Video

2/7/2014

Picture
Microsoft and Insomniac Games unveiled the first look at “Sunset Overdrive’s” co-op multiplayer at E3 and today have released an action-packed video which provides more details on the experience:
Additionally, be sure to check out Xbox Wire for more features, including a look inside the world of Chaos Squad from E3: http://news.xbox.com/2014/06/events-sunset-overdrive-preview-e3

More about Chaos Squad…

·         Choose Your Chaos Wisely – The amount of Chaos is what determines the difficulty of your team’s final Night Defense. The higher your Chaos– the tougher your Night Defense is going to be, but you’ll get more chances to receive cool rewards at the end. The amount of Chaos you have will depend on which missions you voted for leading up to Night Defense. Take a mission with a lot of chaos to increase difficulty and potential rewards? Or take a mission with a team boost to make the group more likely you succeed?

·         Go straight from campaign to Chaos Squad, in game – So, you’re leaping around Sunset City in single-player and your friend invites you to join their Chaos Squad. You drop off a grind rail, strut up to the nearest future photo booth, and enter. You’ll go straight into multiplayer with the same clothing, same amps, same everything as your character from the single-player campaign.

·         Vote on missions in the open-world – At the start, you and your rag-tag band are going to get two mission options to vote on. You conquer it, two new ones crop up. And they’ll have different objectives and be in separate locations from the first round. So, the result is that each Chaos Squad experience feels unique as you’re going through the open-world.

After a few rounds of voting and slaying and Chaos or boost getting – it’s time for your team to face the main event: Night Defense!

·         Night Defense – This is where you will fend off enemies and protect your vats of Overcharge at one of many forts across the city by not only using your weapons, traversal, and amps – but by placing traps, as well. Before each wave – you’ll have a bit of time to place your traps, but if you made a horrible calculation, you can move and place them during the waves, as well.

And then – the enemies attack. And what comes next is an assault of 8 players simultaneously jumping, shooting, grinding, and exploding nearly everything in sight. Each wave brings an increasingly difficult and new variety of enemies to your door.  And, remember, the more Chaos you gathered in the open-world missions – the harder it’s going to be.

·         Rewards for your character you can take back to campaign! – But! Your reward output is based on your Chaos. So, if you manage to survive with a large amount of Chaos – you’re going to get more chances at better rewards than the teams who took team boosts instead of Chaos.

Developed by Insomniac Games, “Sunset Overdrive” is a stylised open-world shooter filled with overpowered weapons, crazed mutants and a sprawling city full of carnage. Set in a futuristic metropolis called Sunset City, “Sunset Overdrive” transforms the mutant apocalypse into your tactical playground, immersing you in an action-packed experience as you grind, vault and wall-run across the city while using a devastating, unconventional arsenal. With hyper-agility, unique weapons, and customisable special abilities, Sunset Overdrive rewrites the rules of traditional shooters and delivers an explosive, irreverent, stylish, and totally unique adventure exclusively to Xbox One this Autumn.

Top Free-to-Play Action Hit Possible Through ID@Xbox

Digital Extremes announced today that Warframe®, the fastest growing AAA Free-to-Play game, is coming to the Xbox One console in 2014.  This will be one of the first titles released through ID@Xbox, which allows independent developers to self-publish their games on Xbox One and will be Free-to-Play with Gold*. The sci-fi third-person action game that challenges players to release their inner ninja can be seen in a new trailer released today in conjunction with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) held in Los Angeles this week. The trailer is available at Youtube.com/PlayWarframe.

“Bringing Warframe to Xbox One is a no-brainer,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes.  “Our players have been asking for Warframe since the debut of the console and with the ID@Xbox Program, now we can make it happen.  Having the freedom to develop and publish Warframe on our own terms is the true definition of independence to us.  Warframe is a passion project for our team and building it alongside our players is a reality now with digital distribution.”

Players are introduced to Warframe as newly awoken Tenno warriors, thrust into a universe at war and armed with ancient exo-skeletal technology only they can operate. These Warframes bring unimaginable power and skill to the Tenno and provide players with unique offensive and defensive powers to explore and master.  Players go solo or band together in squads of 4 to complete co-op based raids to locate ancient artifacts that will help customize and upgrade their Warframe and weapons.

Often described as MMO-lite with an emphasis on cooperative play and clan-building, Warframe will take advantage of the social connectivity and community building features Xbox One offers at launch and in subsequent game updates.  First up is Game DVR where players can capture their greatest Warframe moments and share them with friends.  Players looking for bragging rights will find them with the many Xbox Achievements and Hero Stats.  Second screen functionality through Xbox One SmartGlass will be utilized with the Warframe Nexus App for Windows Phone, iOS and Android. This companion app provides players with pertinent real-time game information and stats such as Alerts to critical missions and the Codex, which provides key data on all the Warframes, weapons, Mods and more to help players strategize their play.

Warframe is currently available for free on PC and PS4™.  More information on Warframe on Xbox One will be revealed in the coming months.  In the meantime, visit www.warframe.com to stay up to date on the latest news.

New Batman: Arkham Knight Debut Gameplay Trailer Revealed & it looks epic

21/5/2014

When it comes to Batman I have spent more time in the Rocksteady's Gotham/Arkham than in any other form of media. I love the Nolan/Bale films and there are comic runs that are special. However with Arkham Asylum Rocksteady crafted a complex tale with an interactivity that up to that point I had not experienced. Now with the Brititsh developer back at at the helm it looks like Arkham Knight will be my game to look out for in 2014 (Paul).
Below is the first official gameplay trailer and it looks mouthwatering to say the least.
Picture
“Evening the Odds” showcases Scarecrow’s return to Gotham City as he schemes to unite the Rogues Gallery and destroy Batman once and for all.  As the citizens flee and criminal gangs take control, the Dark Knight evens the odds by taking to the streets in the legendary Batmobile to ignite the fight that will decide the future of the city that he is sworn to protect.
Batman: Arkham Knight is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license and will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City.

The Halo Journey; By: Bonnie Ross – General Manager, 343 Industries

16/5/2014

Picture
Any time you transition to a new platform, there is the opportunity to look at things with a new perspective. For us at 343 Industries, the launch of the Xbox One was an opportunity to think about what stories we wanted to tell, how to tell them, and how best to push the Halo franchise to showcase the platform. And maybe, most importantly, combining our passion for Halo with the vocal and informative input from our fans.

Halo isn’t simply a perennial game franchise, it’s a part of the Xbox platform itself. In terms of innovation and ideation, it’s sometimes important to people who might not even play Halo. And of course it’s a passion and an essential experience for two generations of gamers.  So we asked ourselves, how do we begin and where do we go with Halo on Xbox One?

In the past, Halo games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial.  It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the Halo game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.

I’m happy to reveal that Halo 5: Guardians, the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015.  In the tradition of every Halo game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4.  That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

It’s a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from Halo 4 about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale – and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the Halo universe.

And 2015 won’t simply be the year of Halo 5: Guardians, it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the Halo television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business.  A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience.  We’ll have more to share on the Halo television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that Halo fans will be pretty excited the special plans we have in store.

So until E3, I’d like to express my gratitude to our massive and varied Halo community, whose energy, enthusiasm, criticism and kindness are the driving force behind what we do and what we hope to achieve in Halo 5: Guardians.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare jolts players forward in a groundbreaking experience that’s ripped-from-the-headlines-of-tomorrow, envisioning a future where both technology and tactics have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise.  Set in the year 2054, a private military corporation (PMC) has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild after a global attack on its military and infrastructure.  You are the advanced soldier.  Empowered with new, cutting-edge exoskeleton abilities, technological advancements and high-tech gear, players join the ranks of a highly-trained, specialized unit committed to restoring order in a state of advanced warfare.

This is the first iteration of publisher Activision’s expanded three-year development cycle allowing the debut lead title from Sledgehammer Games an added year of studio development.  With the expanded production capabilities, Sledgehammer Games is able to create an astonishing new, next generation experience, featuring an array of technical advancements from the sights and sounds that create a near photorealistic world unlike any Call of Duty before, to new performance capture and facial animation technologies that deliver lifelike characters, to a rich and immersive story that brings the fiction to life.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and an honor for Sledgehammer Games.  Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the most ambitious and creative project we have ever worked on. From the endless research and thousands of production designs, to our incredible focus on the narrative and amazing attention to detail – we’re taking nothing for granted,” said Glen Schofield, co-founder and game director of Sledgehammer Games.   “Call of Duty connects with the fans on such a deep level, and crafting a new vision for the next generation has been so inspiring for us.”

Michael Condrey, co-founder and studio head of Sledgehammer Games added, “Glen and I created this team with the singular vision of delivering the best work of our lives.  We know we’re stepping into some pretty big shoes, but every day I’m amazed at the talent and focus at work here touching everything from the story experience to multiplayer.  We’re excited to lead the next chapter in this great franchise, and we can’t wait for November 4th.”

Step Into the Arena with the Next “Ryse: Son of Rome” Add-On Pack, “Duel of Fates”

24/4/2014

Picture
Picture
Today, Microsoft and Crytek have announced the release of "Duel of Fates," the third downloadable content package for "Ryse: Son of Rome."

Available now, the downloadable content features two new arena mode round-to-round maps in “Invictus” and “Barbarous", and a survival map titled "Island." Players will also be able to access two new gladiator skins for their combatants, both taken from "Ryse: Son of Rome’s" single-player campaign: Glott the barbarian chief, and "Ryse" protagonist Marius Titus.

The maps are loosely based on historical events. The Servile Wars, a series of slave uprisings, inspired the creation of the “Invictus” map. “Barbarous” hearkens back to the numerous barbarian invasions that helped spur the fall of the Roman Empire. In these maps, gladiators are tasked with seizing and holding special landmarks such as the God Tree, lighting wicker men on fire, defending Emperor Nero from harm, and avoiding numerous firetraps and arrow jets. New underground areas link certain stages together, with plenty of thematic and environmental diversity within each map.

Gladiators come to the new survival map, “Island,” already bleeding. The challenge here is to fight off an endless series of combatants, pulling off executions to ensure the restoration of their health. The limited combat space and constantly diminishing health creates a sense of urgency, and this tension is heightened further by a barrage of arrows raining down on the battlefield. This map demands that players fight without quarter or pause and is "Ryse: Son of Rome’s" most intense offering to date.

The fates are aligned, and they will duel on 24 April. You can get the new "Duel of Fates" content on Xbox One as part of the "Ryse: Son of Rome" season pass for £15.99, or as a standalone pack for £4.79.
