Xbox One Digital TV Tuner coming to select markets in Europe

10/8/2014

Picture
Since launch, it’s been our vision to bring more entertainment features and enable live TV through Xbox One to more markets around the world. We know our fans in Europe have been asking for this functionality on Xbox Feedback and today, we’re pleased to announce that Xbox One users in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain will be able to experience premium live TV features on Xbox One, such as the ability to access your favourite shows and channels with the sound of your voice* through the OneGuide, with the new Xbox One Digital TV Tuner.

Beginning in October, the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner will be available in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, providing Xbox One users in those markets with an over-the-air digital terrestrial TV experience through the USB single tuner, an alternative to accessing TV content from a cable or satellite set-top box connected through the HDMI-In port. The new digital TV tuner will also support free-to-air DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C television standards.

Here’s a list of the capabilities enabled by the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner:

•          Watch HD TV on Xbox One: With the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner, you can watch free-to-air DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C television channels without changing TV inputs. You can receive game invitations and notifications while watching TV and even watch TV while you wait for a multiplayer match to start.

•          TV Viewing in Snap Mode: You can watch TV using the Snap mode, watching TV on the side and leaving the main screen for games, Skype, or other applications.

•          Pause Live TV: Pause your favorite show when you get up to take a break.

•          TV Listings in the OneGuide: TV listings will be available in the OneGuide. From anywhere, say “Xbox show guide, what’s on BBC One?” to quickly navigate directly to that channel’s listings*.

•          Favourite Channels in the OneGuide: Create your own personal Favourites in the OneGuide so you can easily choose what you want to watch.

•          Channel Tuning by Voice: The OneGuide allows you to call out your favourite TV channel by name and start watching it instantly*.

•          The OneGuide on Xbox SmartGlass: Now you have access to the full OneGuide on the new Xbox SmartGlass app with the ability to tune channels on your TV.

•          TV On Demand: TV listings in the OneGuide will indicate which shows are available on demand from video apps.

The Xbox One Digital TV Tuner will be available beginning late October in the UK for £24.99.

Featuring epic, high-octane action moments, “Rise of the Tomb Raider” will take gamers to multiple locations around the world filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth. Experience a deep, action-packed campaign or jump seamlessly into an eight-player online mode called Chaos Squad, powered by Xbox Live. With an arsenal of kickass, overpowered weapons and a knack for traversing the city with hyper-agility, it isn’t the end of days for you — your story is just beginning.

  •  “Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition” (Capcom Vancouver, Microsoft). Available for download on Xbox One today, “Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition” adds an all-new, four-player, co-op arcade mode to “Dead Rising 3.” Play as past and present “Dead Rising” heroes or cosplay as your favorite Capcom characters to use their signature attacks and supermoves to save the city from zombie hordes, dangerous shadow bosses and giant superzombies. Compete for the top score, unlock new characters and fight for survival in true Capcom style!

  • “Tom Clancy’s The Division” (Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft). A devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City and one by one, basic services fail. In only days without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, a classified unit of self-supported tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, The Division agents are trained to operate independently of command, as all else fails. Fighting to prevent the fall of society, the agents will find themselves caught up in an epic conspiracy, forced to combat not only the effects of a manmade virus, but also the rising threat of those behind it.

  • “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” (CD Projekt RED). “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is a unique combination of nonlinear storytelling and open world — a fantasy RPG focused on player choice, tactical combat and an immersive environment. Spinning the tale of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster hunter, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” aims to attract gamers with a mature and compelling game narrative told as no other has been told before. With more than 100 hours of hand-crafted core and side quest gameplay, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” redefines the genre, shaping the next generation of RPGs.

10 New Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs, Including the #CreatorWeekend Selections

23/1/2014

Picture
GTA Online is continuing its growth. It's a shame all the features that were promised are not out yet but with stability fixes and Cheats finally being removed it may be time to jump back onto Rockstar's most ambitious project to date. Hopefully these 10 Online Jobs have the ability to tempt players back and keep the present community GTA'ing for a long time to come. The fact these jobs are community created shows that Rockstar are supporting the work done by creators in abig way.
Recently, we challenged the GTA Online community to show us their best Races and Deathmatches during our Social Club #CreatorWeekend for a chance at GTA$1M and an exclusive GTA Online license plate. Below please find the Creator Weekend selections, along with five more community-created Jobs that will join the ranks of Rockstar Verified content as part of our continued evolution of GTA Online. Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available during Freemode sessions for players across both Xbox 360 and PS3.

ROCKSTAR VERIFIED

Picture
Twists and Twirls

A complex but beautifully constructed point-to-point through some of Blaine County's iconic countryside. Follow the winding roads of Vinewood Hills as you race from Galileo Observatory through to Tongva Valley. Car selection from the Sports class is key here - steer clear of the Comet's twitchy back end or risk a fishtail festival. Tight turns and unforgiving cliff edges require deft use of the brake pedal, but don't be afraid to go for broke when the opportunity arises.

Picture
Stars In Your Eyes

As the description so eloquently explains, this is "a tribute to the legendary track 'Stars in Your Eyes' in GTA IV". Pick the fastest car in the garage for the long straightaways on one of the busiest highways in Los Santos. Although Creator blueeyedbarbi advises that "you might want to turn traffic off if your reactions aren't quick enough", we think it's better to leave them on for a hair-raising drive into oncoming traffic that could leave the asphalt stained red.

Picture
Monaco Grand Prix GTA ed.

Another recreation of a famous real-world track, the Monaco Grand Prix GTA ed. contains all the features of Southern Europe's iconic Grand Prix race track: empty urban streets, a seafront setting, high end cars, a tricky hairpin, and two unforgiving chicanes that will slingshot you into the race lead, or through your own windshield.

Picture
Casal Dos Ferros Race

A track for the Online racing purist. No novelty factors, no sneaky tricks, no unwelcome distractions - this is raw and unadulterated driving where timing is everything and winning is decided on milliseconds and inches. Use slipstreams to push yourself into the lead and don't look back, particularly as you hurtle towards the water on the final straight down Del Perro Pier... and definitely don't blink.

Picture
Classy Construction

Amongst the mansions of Vinewood Hills, a new build is going up bringing downtown construction workers into uptown 'hoods. Tensions arise between these two tribes, and isolated firefights break out across the elevated terrain. High walls and high end cars allow for a variety of maneuvers in this tricky Deathmatch. We recommend taking the sniper rifle to the top of the mansion turrets or seek out the minigun and own the streets.

ROCKSTAR VERIFIED #CREATORWEEKEND SELECTIONS

Picture
4 Way Madness

This tight Downtown track is spread over four blocks and built for aerial mayhem. 4 Way Madness forces players to jump cross each others paths through a central airborne death zone, flying through mid-air in four different directions. Creator gangsterpdp has placed gas tanks beneath the airspace to ensure that any collision results in instant death. Be sure to max out the starting grid, and then wait until the pack thins out for the carnage to begin. So deliciously cruel and marvelously cunning we couldn't help but select gangsterpdp for the GTA$1M as well as an exclusive CRE8R license plate.

Picture
Crastenburg Drifting Race

French-Canadian Creator WoriedNiko recommends turning the rain on to get the full experience from this tight, twisting race constructed across several parking lots near Los Santos International. Barrels and containers have been carefully positioned to create a series of on-a-dime turns and unforgiving chicanes best navigated via finessed tapping of the handbrake to throw out the back end of your ride into a controlled, smooth drift. For designing a race that brilliantly focuses on a specific racing technique, WoriedNiko gets the TOP CRE8R license plate and GTA$1M. Trés bien!

Picture
Laguna Seca Remake

Previously featured on the Rockstar Newswire as a Job that caught our eye, we gave GTAVDriver a Rockstar Verified stamp of approval this week so that players on both platforms can enjoy this painstakingly detailed recreation of Southern California's famous Laguna Seca raceway. Bookmark it now for long straights and tight 270 degree turns that will challenge all your skills as a driver. The aptly named GTAVDriver also lands himself a NO1CRE8R License Plate and GTA$1M to spend on high end cars to throw around the track.

Picture
Paradise Ally

unseenchaos26, recipient of a THECRE8R license plate, warns that the law of the urban jungle reigns supreme in his well-crafted Deathmatch amongst the warehouses  high-walled street alley littered with heavy weapons, heavy armor and multiple entry points force you to keep moving, so campers be warned! The audacious play is to snag an ATV from the perimeter, and charge through the burnt out cars and buses into the central corridor to try and spring a surprise attack. When the coast is clear climb the ladder to the top of the warehouse overlooking the old motel and pick off your respawned enemies from above.

Picture
Terry's Hangout

The only #CreatorWeekend selection set outside of Los Santos, eponymous creator terrynut6969 scoured the Blaine County landscape to find this cluster of buildings set around a small airport hangar. terrynut6969 has earned his I CRE8 license plate by cleverly splitting the space using wrecked buses that not only fit the derelict environment but create dynamic pathways and cover areas that set up brutal head-to-head showdowns. The added cover allows for surprise attacks using assault shotguns spread throughout the map, while isolated king-of-the-hill skirmishes will decide who owns the coveted positions atop the hangar and the air traffic control tower. Best enjoyed beneath the cold blue desert moonlight.

Please note, in addition to occasionally changing Job names due to taste, copyright or other reasons - we (Rockstar) also from time to time will make other small edits to players' Jobs before making them Rockstar Verified. This includes, but is not limited to modifying spawn points, improving checkpoints or increasing/decreasing the amount of weapon picks ups for a particular Job.

Anchoring Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught is “Episode 1: Nightfall,” the first instalment in Extinction’s four-part episodic narrative that delves deeper into the storyline and features new characters, a new weapon and new alien species including a towering, three-story tall alien enemy.

Onslaught is also included as part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Season Pass, which gives fans access to four epic Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Packs** planned to release in 2014 – Onslaught,Devastation, Invasion and Nemesis. Additionally, Call of Duty Ghosts DLC Season Pass holders get instant access to the downloadable multiplayer map, “Free Fall,” as well as the Team Leader Digital Pack, which comes with a unique multiplayer character head, weapon camo, reticle, player patch, player card and player background.

"We know our fans have an appetite for new gameplay content all year long and the team here is committed to delivering a full season’s worth of amazing new maps, weapons and more, starting withOnslaught in January,” said Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward. "This year will see an assortment of content for players to dig into, with new, uniquely themed maps, new multiplayer weapons and an episodic Extinction story arc that introduces new characters, new locations and new weapons as they try to uncover the genesis of the aliens’ existence.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught will deliver the fast-paced multiplayer experience fans love, with four classically designed Call of Duty® multiplayer maps, each with their own distinct environments, small to medium scale and varying gameplay. The first map, “Fog,” is a small to medium sized map set alongside the banks of a murky lake. Every area within “Fog” is a chilling homage to classic horror films, from an eerie campsite, flickering TVs, torture chamber and seemingly abandoned structures as players try to unlock the map’s dark secret.  If a player happens to find and complete a specific Field Order, they become the embodiment of evil and don the persona of one of cinema’s most iconic horror characters, Michael Myers.  Additionally, the entire soundscape changes to the eerily familiar Halloween Theme music so other players know to run for their lives.  Next is “BayView,” a close-quarters map set on a coastal Californian boardwalk packed with seaside gift stores and an aquarium, offering players fast-paced run-and-gun matches. Players must also be wary of the deadly artillery strike enemies can call-in from a Naval Destroyer anchored just offshore.

The third map “Containment,” transports players to a war-torn Mexican village, where the battle rages along both banks of the dried out riverbed.  The action in this compact map centres on the remains of a small bridge holding a hi-jacked truck filled with leaking radioactive material. Surrounded by a myriad of abandoned bars, cafes, a church and a pool hall, “Containment” also features elevated rooftop vantage points for players who prefer longer-range engagements. Onslaught’s fourth map “Ignition,” launches players into an aging Florida space launch facility. Inspired by “Scrapyard” – the fan-favourite multiplayer map from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2, reimagined with dynamic gameplay elements – “Ignition” packs plenty of action both above and below ground amongst abandoned warehouses, flame trenches and a massive transport crawler. As if rockets crash-landing into the map weren’t enough, the close-quarters combat is further complicated via two separate rocket test engines sites that opposing forces can trigger, sending massive fireballs into the already intense firefights and the failed launch of a massive rocket has a dramatic effect on the combat.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught also arms players with a deadly new addition to the Call of Duty: Ghosts’ weapons arsenal with the “Maverick,” a dual-purpose Assault Rifle or Sniper Rifle that players can choose how to use depending on their tactical needs – a first for Call of Duty.  Outfitted with a lightweight wood stock this weapon can be selected in either the Assault or the Sniper Rifle class.  As an Assault Rifle the weapon’s fire rate becomes fully-automatic with high damage at a decent range and as a Sniper Rifle the “Maverick” sports an advanced scope and a semi-auto rate of fire.

Included in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ initial DLC Pack is the first instalment in Extinction’s four-part episodic narrative, “Episode 1: Nightfall.” Introducing a narrative driven by two new characters and featuring two all-new alien species and an exclusive weapon, “Episode 1: Nightfall” is a fast and frenetic, action-packed continuation of the original Extinction experience in Call of Duty: Ghosts. Set in a remote facility hidden deep within the Alaskan wilderness, the shadowy Nightfall Program has been researching the origins of the newly revealed alien threat. A small recon team of elite soldiers must infiltrate the site to retrieve intel and exterminate the hordes of savage creatures and along the way uncover a three-story tall terror unlike anything they’ve faced before.

GTA Online Capture Update Coming Today

18/12/2013

We are happy to announce that Capture - the newest addition to the collection of team-based modes in Grand Theft Auto Online, will be available today as part of the latest free automatic update on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. With 20 new Jobs across four unique modes, this GTA twist on classic capture the flag style confrontations brings a whole new level of adversarial action to the world of Los Santos and Blaine County. Strategy plays a huge role as you run decoys, set traps and place obstacles to ensure your enemies don’t get close to your goods. These new Jobs are accessible in Freemode and spread across the four different modes described below. Read on for more details and previews of a few of our faves:
Picture
RAID

In Raid, you'll have to fight your way into your opponents' base and steal a package, then deliver it back to your base to score points. Reach the target score, or deliver more packages than your opponents do in the allotted time to win the match.

HOLD

When playing Hold, teams must collect and store as many packages as possible in their base. Packages can either be found on the map, or stolen from the opposing team’s bases. Reach the target score, or hold the most packages when the time runs out, to win..
Picture
GTA

As the ubiquitous acronym might suggest, GTA mode tasks players with stealing target vehicles located all around the map, before bringing them back to their respective bases. Each team must fight to steal more vehicles in the allotted time than their opponents.

CONTEND

In Contend, there's only one package, situated in the middle of the map. Teams must fight to bring this package back to their respective bases, and once the package is captured it respawns in the middle of the map and is up for grabs again.

Capture will be available as part of today’s automatic update for GTA Online, which also includes a host of fixes and dynamic tuning updates. For details on those please check out the Rockstar Support page.

The world Tolkein created seems to be a very fertile breeding ground for video games, but unlike the Lego franchise this title is going for the more gritty end of the spectrum.

We have attached a few screenshots and pieces of concept art but also a few points  on what these are trying demonstrate to the viewer. With the game coming to both generations of gaming we hope it will be able to live up to this early promise.

Lego; The Hobbit, Trailer

18/12/2013

Picture
The Lego franchise is one of the best in modern gaming. Their high production values mixed with humour for both young and old make them a stand out set of gaming experiences.

The latest addition to the family will be the Hobbit although we all knew it was coming either from previous news or the fact the Lord of the Rings game was a huge success. It is still good to see that the developers have taken the time to sculpt a wonderful approximation of Middle Earth and its plethora of characters.

Look out for more news as the game gets closer but for now just sit back and enjoy.

The Walking Dead: Season Two Premiere - Episode One: "All That Remains"

12/12/2013

Picture
If you are waiting to play the first season of the Walking Dead you may want to avoid this trailer. For everyone else this is where we start to learn what life as Clementine really is going to feel like. The girl with a small stature but a big heart is going to have to do some growing up and it looks like its going to be one hell of a ride.
"The terrifying nature of Robert Kirkman's world has allowed Telltale to push the boundaries of interactive drama in video games to a place that has had fans anxious to know what will happen next in this series," said Dan Connors, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. "Today we can finally lift the veil, albeit only a little, on how this story will continue, and we'll soon be putting players in the shoes of a lead role that will challenge their expectations of how to survive in a world where no one can be trusted."

On the 9th of September 2014 you may have to face your Destiny (according to Bungie)

7/12/2013

Picture
So Bungie have announced the worldwide launch date for their bold new title Destiny. This release was posted on the Bungie blog and can be seen here.
Unfortunately for some the only other mouth watering reveal is that the Beta will be in the summer with exclusive access to PS3/4 players. I will leave you with a direct quote from the post to really get you in the Bungie mindset.
There should be a stage in every product where the ludicrous is thought possible, where the team blazes trails right to the edge of the abyss in a hundred directions. Only through great risks are great things truly achieved.

New The Wolf Among Us screens to wet the appetite for Episode 2.

6/12/2013

According to many the Wolf Among Us was a huge success. This was backed up by Matt as he said in his review (Which you can read here). Needless to say we can not wait to delve back into the world of Fables and these screens are doing nothing to dampen our appetite.

Wargaming.net, War Child UK is launching the campaign Real War Is Not A Game

4/12/2013

Below the divider is the full press release for the new joint venture between War Child and World of Tanks.
Its a bold link for the two organisations but I think the message that the reality of War is far removed from its on screen depiction is an important one.
Games are not the only medium that depicts war but the active way companies like Wargaming are supporting this initiative shows their commitment to educating as well as entertaining their player base.

To find out more you can read below or please consider going to the War child website to donate.

World of Tanks partners with War Child UK to engage the gaming world in the reality of war for children

Picture
Wargaming.net and War Child UK share the belief that Real War Is Not A Game. To raise awareness of the real, unacceptable issues that children face in conflicts around the world today, in partnership with Wargaming.net, War Child UK is launching the campaign ‘Real War Is Not A Game’ to engage the wider gaming industry in these issues.

Wargaming.net is a major Free to Play publisher that has raised with its success the awareness for history and education of history with a wide audience of players.  We strongly believe that with success comes also the responsibility to give back and support the community. As such, Wargaming.net has made many efforts to support museums such as the Bovington Tank Museum where it has funded their educational classroom for example.

Between 20th and 27th of September Wargaming.net sold three “Charity Packages” on their World of Tanks Gift Shop, a quarter of the total sales revenue would be donated to the Charity War Child UK who help children affected by the consequences of conflict in the real world.

Wargaming presented a cheque to War Child, the total amount raised was €100,000. Attending these preceding where:

o   Rob Williams, CEO War Child UK

o   Rinaldo Andreolli, General Manager, Wargaming Europe SAS

o   Ben Knowles, Fundraising Director, War Child UK

o   Richard Cutland, Military Specialist, Wargaming Europe SAS

Armoured warfare is something that Wargaming.net believes should take place on people’s PCs at home and not in the real world. By supporting museums and other educational institutions that showcase the atrocities and consequences of armoured warfare, we try to support the efforts of ensuring that history is not forgotten and that people will not repeat the mistakes of the past that have brought so much suffering to so many people.

We are however consciously aware that in reality many children around the globe are affected by the horrific consequences of warfare and are in dire need of assistance. Children are always hit hardest by conflict. They are beaten, raped and tortured; their homes, families and schools are destroyed - everything a child needs to build a better future for themselves is lost.

Given these realities, Wargaming.net has been on the lookout for an organization that shares our belief that children are not only innocent but also our only hope for a better future. Protecting children and helping them overcome the horrific conditions they are exposed to in armoured conflicts around the globe is an imperative that Wargaming.net would like to support.

With War Child UK we have found a partner that is exceptional in many ways. War Child is not only actively promoting and helping to create conditions in conflict zones that allow children to be protected from the immediate effects of armoured conflicts, but is doing much more than that. By enabling children to receive an education and assisting families and young adults in acquiring skills that will allow them to make a living from a sustainable income on their own, War Child’s activities make a lasting difference in the life of many.

We are gladly supporting War Child’s efforts both financially as well as through raising War Child’s profile within our community. By alerting more people to the crucially important work War Child is doing, we hope to be helping to raise more funds so that War Child can reach and help more children.
