![]() The new DLC from Volition is out tomorrow. Originally destined as DLC for Saints Row III, but with such a compelling central idea that Volition turned it into a fully fledged game, 'Enter the Dominatrix' is finally here to play as extra content for Saints Row IV. With boundless self-referential humour squashed into a couple of hours of content, expect to get more of the same batshit-crazy fun you have already seen in the main game. This is not just a skin pack, or extra weapon download package (although there are some new fun weapons and outfits to be had as you play), but actually extra story content which adds to the main game without ruining any of the existing canon. You can actually play even before finishing the main story, however you do have to reach a certain level to be able to access the missions and side quests. The story presents you with the Saints being interviewed by a reporter on their spaceship about the DLC pack. That's right, in the usual smash down of the fourth wall, the Saints discuss the history of the famous DLC-that-became-a-game in the actual DLC itself, with each character commenting on their roles within. The missions are presented as flashbacks, which you play through with tongue-in-cheek comments from all the crew narrated over your gameplay. ![]() The missions are a pure joy, as ever, with the emphasis being placed on unadulterated fun, rather than challenging gameplay. There is plenty of fan service being pushed out too, with many references to geek-genre entertainment, although, as the name suggests, the Wachowski bros do get hit with the parody paddle on plenty of occasions. One particular protagonist, in sunglasses and long leather jacket, features, making complaints about the editing process of the game which left out many of his favourite lines. This is much like the minor character from the original Matrix movies who appeared with a more important role in the disappointing game tie-in. There are plenty more gaming-related jokes too. At the beginning your character pointedly ignores a request to go through the laborious tutorial process as, quite rightly, the player should know all this by now (much like the beginning of Blood Dragon). There are some pretty funny scathing comments from the Saints about having to do the usual fetch quests and escort missions, and pixelated fast forwarding of some of Kenzie's tech related exposition, with a loud, "BORING!" from the president. The final level reaches new heights of (self-confessed) craziness and the primitive cut scene footage is another homage to the cutting room floor style of the DLC. The scene with The Saints travelling out of Paul's head made me laugh out loud. If you are feeling jaded after putting many hours into GTAV, Enter the Dominatrix is a very welcome tonic; it certainly put a smile on my face. It is no coincidence that Volition are releasing this DLC now, their timing is pretty good. It certainly made me want to jump back into Steelport for a bit of gimp bashing, so to speak. If you've played the main game already, or are still missing wielding your big purple dildo bat, I can throughly recommend downloading this. You might be cautious about spending £5.99 for two hours play, but this gets you a package (ahem) of high density fun and genuinely good humour. Whip-crackingly good. If you enjoyed the combat from the main game then this will be right up your street. We have the same vigors and weapons from the main game, which are still just as much fun. Although trying to get grips with the mechanics did cost me a few lives.
Although not what I expected from the DLC when I purchased the Season Pass, so far its been fun to go back to Columbia and get back into the DeWitt POV. Look out for a full review coming soon and if you want to read a review for the full game click the link or Picture below.
