Zotac have jumped in on the Steambox drive for late 2014.
We will be getting more details closer to release but the base list of credentials is still enough to peak most gamers interest. I'm most excited by the new Steam Controller and the opportunity to play any game from the comfort of my sofa, But with Carsten Berger, senior director, ZOTAC International promising. “Gamers can expect the latest Intel Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics processor in the upcoming ZOTAC ZBOX Steam Machine for stunning visuals and world-class features.” then holding off on purchasing that next gen console may end up being the best move I have made in a while.

Hardware; ZOTAC Elevates ZBOX nano With Quad-Core Processing Power

12/12/2013

The future of computers and consoles receives a lot of attention at the dawn of a new generation. When I think about the future, and how I see things going, I can only imagine things going in one direction. I envision nondescript boxes, clamshells and tablets; connecting up through a mobile internet connection to a server where a simple login process gives the user complete access to everything they need. Operating systems won’t be stored locally and computers won’t need to meet system requirements in order to run games. Everything will be sent to us from this central location, where the server has already handled all the processing and is simply delivering it to the computer sitting in front of you, using a single subscription.

I have a weakness for Chromebooks and external graphics cards for laptops, and I’m always interested in technology that I can imagine fitting into my future. But we’re not there yet.

ZOTAC’s ZBOX series have been offering computers in tiny boxes since 2006, and the company have just announced a new addition to their mini-PC lineup. The ZBOX Nano AQ01 is a palm-sized, quad-core computer using AMD’s A4-5000 APU, which makes it a close relative to the APU found in the Sony Playstation 4 and Xbox One. While you probably can’t expect this little guy to push Battlefield 4 or Crysis 3, it’s sure to be enough to cruise through older games and most tasks outside of gaming and video editing. Included in the box along with the chip is a 500GB hard drive, 4GB (up to 8) of RAM and a 802.11ac Wi-Fi chip, making this little unit a perfect choice for streaming or as a media centre.

While ZOTAC’s ZBOX Nano AQ01 might not be what I see at the end of the road, it looks like a great rest-stop.

The Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket looks to make recording gameplay accessible for all

Recording gameplay and commentary is huge at the moment. From LevelBf’s Below Radar Cup, to tips and tricks on Grand Theft Auto 5 and even live streams of Crusader Kings II, if you haven’t got a Personal Video Recorder connected to your computer or console of choice, it feels like you’re being left behind.

But what PVR do you go for? Will you have a computer hooked up to it to record to?

Shipping online from the 2nd of November, Hauppauge launches the HD PVR Rocket, a standalone unit, which when coupled to a USB connected external hard drive or flash drive can record gameplay while simultaneously recording commentary.

Without needing to hook up additional hardware to record to, the Rocket will fit anyone worried about space and at £139.99, setup costs.

Using a PVR myself, the hardest thing about them is storing the hours of gameplay that can come out of a single session. The Rocket’s different. Using H.264 to compress the footage, Hauppauge claim to get 4 hours of gameplay onto a 16GB USB drive without sacrificing video quality. Gamers can do all this while recording a commentary track through the inbuilt audio mixer with either a microphone or headset through the microphone input.

After all this is done, all you need to do is edit the footage, which can be done through the Hauppauge Capture software, and post it on Youtube

The Red and White Skew of the 2DS
Today Nintendo have sounded that a new style handheld will be coming to the market in October 2013. The 2DS is a stripped back version of their market leading 3DS.
The 2DS looks more like a tablet then it's Clam style sibling and with its reduced cost should prove popular come the Autumn.
Some have questioned the move but what Nintendo are showing here, is the desire to capture the entry level gamer at a young age. This is a great move for both the company and the industry as market growth is vital for gaming to grow as an entertainment medium.Below you can find the full Press release.

Nintendo today also introduces a new member to the Nintendo 3DS family - Nintendo 2DS***, which will arrive in Europe on 12th October 2013. Offering you additional variety and value in your handheld gaming options, the Nintendo 2DS is a streamlined version of the Nintendo 3DS that will play games available for Nintendo 3DS, as well as Nintendo DS in 2D.
The Nintendo 2DS retains many of the same hardware features as the Nintendo 3DS including the same Nintendo 3DS gameplay controls, backwards compatibility with the vast existing library of Nintendo DS games, as well as wireless connectivity features such as access to Nintendo eShop as well as StreetPass and SpotPass functionality. However the console takes on a new distinctive fixed, slate form design, and will play all packaged and download Nintendo 3DS games in 2D. The new console is designed as an entry point into, or a new way to enjoy the Nintendo handheld experience and will be available at launch  in two colour combinations, White + Red and Black +Blue, with a Nintendo 2DS Carrying Case (in either Red or Blue) that can be purchased separately.
