E3 Thoughts; Star Wars Battlefront (Phils POV)

16/6/2015

Picture
Why this has Piqued our Interest
-Phil

First Gameplay and Survival Mode: First things first - This game looks FANTASTIC. DICE have taken the Frostbite 3 engine used in their Battlefield series and really pushed it to 11. Those visuals, combined with the spot on audio work and terrific use of the original score means that this title screams Star Wars - BIG grins all round whilst watching it. Whilst the demo does seem a bit scripted at times, I feel it does a good job at retaining an organic feel and reminds me of times playing the battlefield series - Whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen. Fingers crossed the game has enough differences to still feel fresh after years of playing those titles.
On the single player/cooperative front, Survival mode looks like a fairly simple take on the “defend against waves” game mode found in other titles but I’m hoping that the “Battle” and “Hero” modes mix things up a bit.

Also, TOW CABLES. Nuff said.

Star Wars™Battlefront™ will be released on November 20, 2015 In the UK (the 17th for North America and 19th for Europe)

E3 Thoughts; FIFA 16

Why this has Piqued our interest
- Paul

The FIFA franchise has long been key element of Football culture and that is a female presence. This season the creators at EA will integrate Women's teams for the first time. Although only national teams to begin with and in a relatively small capacity on the playing front it tis still good to see.
The new title will have a raft of new features all of which are outlined ion the press release below the trailer and Screenshots. The one I would like to pick out though is FIFA Trainer, if anyone has seen my gameplay videos for FIFA they know I need help as do the large number of new players coming to the game every year. If this mode works well then it will be a way to help players learn and hopefully turn a new player into a returning player for future releases in the FIFA franchise.

Top Free-to-Play Action Hit Possible Through ID@Xbox

Digital Extremes announced today that Warframe®, the fastest growing AAA Free-to-Play game, is coming to the Xbox One console in 2014.  This will be one of the first titles released through ID@Xbox, which allows independent developers to self-publish their games on Xbox One and will be Free-to-Play with Gold*. The sci-fi third-person action game that challenges players to release their inner ninja can be seen in a new trailer released today in conjunction with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) held in Los Angeles this week. The trailer is available at Youtube.com/PlayWarframe.

“Bringing Warframe to Xbox One is a no-brainer,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes.  “Our players have been asking for Warframe since the debut of the console and with the ID@Xbox Program, now we can make it happen.  Having the freedom to develop and publish Warframe on our own terms is the true definition of independence to us.  Warframe is a passion project for our team and building it alongside our players is a reality now with digital distribution.”

Players are introduced to Warframe as newly awoken Tenno warriors, thrust into a universe at war and armed with ancient exo-skeletal technology only they can operate. These Warframes bring unimaginable power and skill to the Tenno and provide players with unique offensive and defensive powers to explore and master.  Players go solo or band together in squads of 4 to complete co-op based raids to locate ancient artifacts that will help customize and upgrade their Warframe and weapons.

Often described as MMO-lite with an emphasis on cooperative play and clan-building, Warframe will take advantage of the social connectivity and community building features Xbox One offers at launch and in subsequent game updates.  First up is Game DVR where players can capture their greatest Warframe moments and share them with friends.  Players looking for bragging rights will find them with the many Xbox Achievements and Hero Stats.  Second screen functionality through Xbox One SmartGlass will be utilized with the Warframe Nexus App for Windows Phone, iOS and Android. This companion app provides players with pertinent real-time game information and stats such as Alerts to critical missions and the Codex, which provides key data on all the Warframes, weapons, Mods and more to help players strategize their play.

Warframe is currently available for free on PC and PS4™.  More information on Warframe on Xbox One will be revealed in the coming months.  In the meantime, visit www.warframe.com to stay up to date on the latest news.

Our biggest innovation since we invented the Toys-to-Life category with  Skylanders Trap Team. And the result of over four years of passion, partnership and investment to bring Bungie's vision for Destiny to life. I think this is the best slate in Activision's history and I can't wait for gamers to get a closer look."

Activision's E3 Slate Includes:

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Developed by Sledgehammer Games,  Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare delivers gamers an immersive and compelling narrative, jaw-dropping visuals and, for the first time in  Call of Duty, exoskeleton gameplay that will redefine how people play the game. Players become the advanced soldier enabled with the power of the exoskeleton, an advanced arsenal of never-before-seen weaponry, new abilities and new gameplay mechanics. The first  Call of Duty to benefit from a three-year development cycle,  Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare  is built specifically for the next generation consoles. The game takes place in a future setting that immerses players into an emotional journey with a new cast of characters poised to set a new bar for the franchise. The title is scheduled for release on November 4 for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC; not yet rated by the ESRB. In Destiny, gamers become Guardians of the last city on Earth, able to wield incredible powers and explore the far reaches of our solar system. The game will be available on September 9 for the PlayStation®4 system, PlayStation®3 system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Xbox 360. Skylanders Trap Team - Developer Toys for Bob, creators of the Toys-to-Life™ phenomenon, return with another exciting innovation with Skylanders Trap Team. The newest installment to the Skylanders franchise will reverse the magic of bringing toys-to-life, letting kids take characters out of the digital world and bring them into the physical world. In  Skylanders Trap Team, Portal Masters seek out and defeat the most wanted villains in all of Skylands, pulling them out of the game and into living rooms by capturing them in Traps. Players can then send villains back into the game where they play as them to fight for good.  Skylanders Trap Team will include the Traptanium Portal™, a new ring of magical energy that enables kids to not only bring their Skylanders to life, but also capture villains using the new Traps.  Skylanders Trap Team introduces new heroes known as Trap Masters and will be available on October 5 in North America for Xbox One and Xbox 360 games and entertainment systems from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 system, PlayStation®3 system, Nintendo's Wii™ system and Nintendo's Wii U™ system. A completely unique adventure will be available on the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system.

Focus on E3 2014; CRYSTAL DYNAMICS UNVEILS RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER

9/6/2014

Sequel to Critically Acclaimed and Top Selling Action-Adventure Coming Holiday 2015

Crystal Dynamics, a Square Enix studio, today announced its latest title in the critically acclaimed and award-winning Tomb Raider® series, Rise of the Tomb Raider ® .The game will redefine survival action in Holiday 2015.

In her first adventure, Lara Croft® was forged into a true survivor, but she glimpsed a deeper, secret world. In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider.

“With the power of the new generation, and our proprietary Foundation engine, our high octane action moments will be even more epic. Multiple locations around the world will be filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth and over three times larger than we could achieve before,” said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Product Development and Western Studios at Square Enix. “Our digital actors will rival CG quality, and after hearing the cry from our fans loud and clear, we will put the tombs back into Tomb Raider, all in our gritty Survival-Action style.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider builds upon the formula that made Tomb Raider a success, and features the return of Camilla Luddington as Lara Croft. Camilla will take character performance to new heights as Lara pushes herself beyond human limits and is confronted with what it means to become a hero. Once again, Crystal Dynamics is proud to have the award-winning author Rhianna Pratchett as a key member of the writing team, helping craft a story that delves into Lara’s inner turmoil and motivations in this critical second act of her journey.
