LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Asgard Character Pack; Trailer

27/12/2013

The Marvel Universe is one of the richest properties in entertainment. I use that phrase due to the fact Marvel is a cross medium juggernaut at the moment.

Well the gaming side had a big hit with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and now the game is expanding with the Asgard Character Pack. You can find out more from the trailer below but things may about to become a bit God like.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Reveal Trailer

29/10/2013

Second Season of the Award-Winning Series Officially Unveiled;
Season One 'Game of the Year Edition' Heading to Retail Stores this November

Two big pieces of The Walking Dead News, The first is the reveal of Season 2 starring everyone's favourite little survivor. The second is the announcement of a Game of the Year edition for Season 1.
Season 2 will be coming later this year and available on PC/MAC/Concols and iOS (with other platforms TBA) hopefully a pre-Christmas date is in the offing.
The GOTY edition of the first season will be coming in November for Console PC and Mac

Early Impression; STAR WARS® PINBALL: BALANCE OF THE FORCE

16/10/2013

This is a very early view and we will be creating individual reviews for all of the Zen Pinball tables over the coming weeks and beyond. However today the Balance of the Force pack dropped and I have spent some time on each table.
Just for transparency all the scores are form my first full game on the table and I played on the Vita (My platform of choice for Pinball) with the view 4 option selected.

Episode VI

Picture

Score; 16,386,974

Of the original trilogy Return of the Jedi is usually the lowest ranked film and of the three tables its my least favourite.
Its very well presented with a tough opening trick shot but the table feels too wide for the Vita screen. Its a small thing but it really shows as the other tables all feel ideally suited. Otherwise the basic gameplay feels very safe with the specials creating all the buzz.
I can see it may grow on me but I will have to move from usual view

Darth Vader

The most striking thing about this table is the ambient lighting. The glowing red floor creates a menacing table and feels perfectly suited to the character it depicts. The table is pretty fast with a compact set of set in the center.
The specials are based around Vader specific scenes from the Trilogy and they play out with Zen's usual panache. I can see my score growing a lot bigger as it was just silly mistakes that cost.
The Highlight of the table has to be the multiball sections but I will not spoil why except to say Glow.

Score; 107,097,928

Picture

StarFighter Assault

Picture

Score; Rebellion, 41,993816
Score; Empire, 48,772,780

The two scores above are pretty much the reason I love this table. It defines balance with half the table being for the Empire and the Rebellion on the other. However if you think this is the only duality to the table you will be mistaken. At the start you get to decide which Starfighter you will control and this changes the look of the bumpers (they are in the shape of Canons) to the voices and even the Space Invader style mini game. This is my favourite of the three and I know my score will be climbing on bothsides
Overall for £7.99 I can highly recommend the Balance of the force pack, the three tables have the usual polish and will offer a great challenge. Look out for the full reviews coming soon

Batman; Arkham Origins is going mobile.

14/10/2013

At this point I do not think there will a platform that is not getting attention from the upcoming Batman Arkham franchise (well maybe not the Ouya). This is due the announcement over the weekend during NYCC of an upcoming Free to play title for mobile devices. Initially launching on the iOS platform during the full game's release and later to be followed by the Android version.
The trailer below shows some of the graphics and it is looking pretty good at this juncture, for a free add on to the franchise this could well be worth a download.

BC Weekly Update 13/10/13 Games

14/10/2013

It's been a very busy week on the comic/game crossover with news from NYCC, you can check this out on the Comic news feed.
In terms of site gaming-wise the big news has been Castles in the Sky. This lovely experience was played through by Jon  and one of our youngest contributors, his daughter. The video is below and I can highly recommend giving it a watch.
We have a few reviews coming in the next few days including one of Telltales latest endeavor, The Wolf Among Us, so keep your eyes open for that.

Zen Studio's are returning to the Marvel universe in December with a dose from the Doctor (Strange that is)

13/10/2013

Picture
With Zen's recent focus on Star Wars you could be forgiven for thinking they had left the Marvel universe behind. However at NYCC this weekend Zen came back with a bang showing the new Doctor Strange table due for release in December. Its looking like a complex range of ramps with the fireworks we have come to expect from the Pinball masters. Loook oit for further news and reviews on the table in the coming weeks (months)

Thor; The Dark World, gets a Lego twist

9/10/2013

A special downloadable character (DLC) pack will be available for LEGO  Marvel Super Heroes at launch.  The Asgard DLC pack will include eight playable characters, all of whom are also featured in the film.

Created in the same style as the poster for the upcoming theatrical release, you’ll find that all of the characters in the upcoming film, from Thor and Jane Foster, to Malekith have been transformed into LEGO perfection.

A New York Comic Con teaser from CD Projekt Red and Dark Horse

3/10/2013

The teaser below pretty much gives the game away but its still hugely exciting.
My take on the teaser is;
The Witcher series has been lauded as one of the best in recent times so linking this franchise with Dark Horse will hopefully to reward us with a must buy series in the near future.

Skyman will be coming to the fore in 2014

23/9/2013

Skyman the new character from Dark Horse Comics will be making his  first appearance in Captain Midnight #4, October 30th!

Skyman #1 is on sale January 15, 2014, in comic shops everywhere!

Below is a brief overview of whats to come and an amazing visual representation of the man in Blue.
Picture
Dark Horse will unleash its latest superhero early next year! Joshua Hale Fialkov (Tumor), Eisner nominee and writer of the Emmy-nominated animated film Afro Samurai: Resurrection, is set to pen a brand-new series from the pages of Captain Midnight—Skyman!

Skyman is a four-issue miniseries with pencils by Manuel Garcia and inks by Javier Bergantiño Menor (a.k.a. Bit). Issue #1 features regular and variant covers by Freddie Williams II and Dan Scott!

“So honored to be a part of a line of comics that seek to bring back the classic feel of superheroes but in a thoroughly modern way. Plus, working alongside my buddies Josh Williamson and Fred Van Lente is a true treat,” states Fialkov, referring to the writers of Captain Midnight and Brain Boy, two superhero series that are closely entwined with Skyman.

After an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Captain Midnight, a drunken Skyman accidentally kills an innocent man! Turns out he’s not only an overly patriotic zealot; he’s also a dangerous PR nightmare. Needing a new face for their initiative ASAP, the Skyman Program turns to US Air Force Captain Eric Reid: a wounded veteran on the ropes, looking for a new lease on life. Reid must fight off his personal demons to have any chance of surviving the potentially deadly initiation.

When the Skyman Program plummets, Albright Industries brings in a new hero to make it soar!

Fashion Beast

Just a little quote that I hope will get you to take a look at the Fashion Beast review but most of all to think about purchasing one of Alan Moore's best. (sorry for the spoiler)
Fashion beast is just that a total beast of a story it will ravage your ideas and leave you frightened sitting up a tree if you’re not careful.

BC Weekly Update 08/09/13

8/9/2013

The big site news of the week is the addition of IDW publishing to the list of our comic book partners but we will have more on this in a later post. So now on with the highlights.

Killzone Mercenary; Early Impressions

Picture
FPS titles are the mainstay of many a gamer, from Halo to Call of Duty to Battlefield the list of possible ways to shoot someone in the face is pretty varied. Up till now the Vita has been lacking in this key area but will the release of Killzone Mercenary offer Vita users a FPS to be proud of or another mediocre offering.

The Star Wars takeover.

To celebrate the release of The Star Wars comic. The site had a takeover this week below are two of the highlights that help to highlight one of the most amazing franchises in entertainment.

The Star Wars #1; Review of the first part of the authorized adaptation of George Lucas’s rough-draft screenplay

Jon had a chance to relive his childhood this week by experiencing Star Wars again. The difference this time is that the story is relatively new.
The comic is based on George Lucas's Rough draft and according to Jon it's.....No spoilers you will have to read the review to find out more.

Star Wars; Purge, why it's the Vader story fans deserve.

The prequels made Darth Vader into a whiny muppet (My own opinion and not necessarily representative of everyone on the site-Paul).
Thankfully the Purge is here to the right the wrongs of young Anakin Skywalker and make Vader into a Badass once more.

BALTIMORE COMIC-CON NEWS; GLASS AND SANTOS GET FURIOUS!
