Disney Interactive officially announced today the latest playable characters to appear in the 2.0 Edition of Disney Infinity - Merida and Maleficent.

Merida and Maleficent are playable in the all-new Toy Box 2.0 mode of the game, along with all characters previously released for Disney Infinity. Players will be able to use both characters, plus hundreds of Disney-themed items, locations, props and vehicles, to create new adventures in customised worlds.

Key highlights include:

  • Merida: With her untamed fiery red locks, this headstrong Disney•Pixar Princess will definitely leave her mark in Disney Infinity. Between her sharp sword and bow combo attacks with ricocheting arrows, she can upgrade her aim with elemental freeze arrows, freezing enemies in front of her then following up with rapid shots showing off her impressive athletic skills as an archer and sword fighter.

  • Maleficent: The wicked title character from the upcoming Walt Disney Studios film employs numerous magical powers and can attack using her magic in melee and ranged combat. To defeat enemies, Maleficent has the ability to utilise projectile and area of effect attacks that affect multiple targets within a specified area, brambles that she summons from the ground and ravens that she can call on to attack targets.
Both Merida and Maleficent will be available in retail stores this fall. Additional Play Sets and characters will be announced in the coming months.

World of Speed; Azure Coast screenshots

My.com has released new track screenshots for their action-racing game, World of Speed revealing the sunny Azure Coast.

There are few places in the world more beautiful than the Azure Coast. It’s one of the locations in World of Speed featuring a point-to-point track rather than a circuit.

It is a highly technical track filled with enough difficult corners to rival that of the Nürburgring. But it is long enough that there are quite a few sections where you're guaranteed to hit top speed.

This track has something for everyone.

CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS INVASION IS THE THIRD DLC PACK FOR 2014, COMING FIRST, EXCLUSIVELY TO XBOX 3rd JUNE

29/5/2014

Invasion DLC Pack Delivers Four New MP Maps and the Next Chapter in Extinction’s Four-Part Episodic Storyline.
More Unique Field Orders Debut in New DLC Pack,
Including The Death Mariachi, Anubis – the Half Jackal/Half Human Protector of the Dead and Ghost Pirates
Call of Duty® fans should mark their calendars and prepare for Invasion, as Activision and Infinity Ward today revealed the third massive DLC Pack for Call of Duty®: Ghosts. Launching 3rd June first, exclusively on Xbox Live for Xbox One and Xbox 360, Call of Duty®: Ghosts Invasion delivers four new multiplayer maps from unique locales around the world, each with hidden secrets and unique Field Orders. Invasion also includes “Episode 3: Awakening,” the next thrilling chapter in Extinction’s four-part episodic narrative taking players deep into an alien underworld to discover the truth behind the Cryptid attack.
Invasion is available a la carte or as part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Season Pass, which gives fans access to all four epic Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Packs** planned for release in 2014 –Onslaught, Devastation, Invasion and Nemesis.Invasion’s four new small-to-medium-sized multiplayer maps feature the fast-paced gameplay Call of Duty  fans crave, each one donning a distinct look, feel and unique killstreak.
Picture
“Departed” is a medium-sized map set in a rural Mexican town during the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. The colourfully decorated streets, vendor carts and storefronts provide ample cover for run-and-gunners and players that complete the map’s unique Field Order will unlock the Death Mariachi killstreak. Armed with dual-wielding pistols, the Death Mariachi settles scores, with each kill turning enemy players into another member of the band and a temporary squad mate.
Picture
“Pharaoh” is the abandoned archaeological site of an ancient Egyptian palace. Players will have to be on the lookout for collapsing monuments and urns full of flesh-eating scarabs, among other surprises in this multi-level map. Inside the palace, gamers will battle through multiple chambers ideal for close-quarters combat and short-range weapons, all under the watchful eye of Anubis, the half-jackal/half-human, protector of the dead, who will handsomely reward players who unlock this map’s Field Order.
Picture
“Mutiny,” transports players to a remote Caribbean island harbouring an eerie pirate hideout complete with abandoned trading posts and prison cells. Speed and stealth are a must as players navigate the narrow and intertwining pathways. However, let ye be warned that gamers taking up positions on the pirate ship moored in the centre of the map will become vulnerable to enemy fire from the numerous flanking routes created by the map’s horseshoe shaped dock. Players that unlock “Mutiny’s” Field Order will find themselves escorted by two ethereal ghost pirates, who will happily send enemy combatants down to Davey Jones’ locker on their behalf.
Picture
Invasion’s fourth multiplayer map is a refreshed version of the fan-favourite map from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2, “Favela.” Since its original release, the Brazilian shantytown has seen substantial change. Buildings once under construction are now complete, while others have crumbled into a state of disrepair. Players must avoid falling to their death as they traverse the map from one building to the next, with ramshackle scaffolding creating varied pathways between structures and enemy snipers taking advantage of the long sightlines. Players who complete the Field Order in “Favela” will be able to call in heavy air support from a nearby Y-8 Gunship to bring the rain with a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon and a 25mm cannon.
Anchoring the Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion DLC Pack is the next instalment in the game’s Extinction mode episodic narrative, “Episode 3: Awakening.” In Awakening, the team descends into the perilous alien underworld to strike at the subterranean fortress of the Ancestors – the mysterious puppet-masters behind the Cryptid invasion. Armed with a range of new hi-tech weapons and equipment, the team must penetrate a series of defensive barriers to reach the Ark and unlock the secrets of the Ancestors’ psychic powers. As the final battle draws closer, the fate of the Earth and the future of the human race hang in the balance.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion will be available 3rd June first, exclusively on Xbox Live for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, with other platforms to follow. Call of Duty: Ghosts is rated PEGI 16. Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion is published by Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and developed by Infinity Ward.

Sponsored Video -  Titanfall Expedition DLC

29/5/2014

When Titanfall first graced the Xbox One it managed to take over the lives of quite a number of gamers’ lives. At least four of the staff here at Backwards Compatible have spent well in excess of forty hours in Multiplayer action.

Now the monster is back as Titanfall has released its first batch of new maps. These are Swampland, Runoff and War Games. As with all Titanfall maps, verticality is clearly apparent as can be seen from the trailer above. These new arenas are helping to grow the variety of maps that already exist in the base game and will be added to with future DLC releases.
Picture
Each new map adds a different tactical feel to the game:

Swampland is, as it sounds, a swamp environment with man-made structures dotted around the outskirts. The trump card, however in this map, is the natural flora of the environment as Pilots use trees to their advantage to gain position against the opposition.

Runoff continues the theme of water but, instead, returns players to a more industrial location. This map is centred around three structures, all with several access points on multiple levels, keeping the action fresh and varied on every playthrough.

Lastly we have War Games, or maybe it should be called Wall Games, as this is, by far, a Wall Runner’s dream. The environment lends itself to the sprightly pilots who embrace the more useful parkour aspects of Titanfall.

Each map has its own play advantages for each player style but always be mindful that a Titanfall is never far away.

The Titanfall Expedition DLC shipped for PC and Xbox One on the 15th of May and will release for Xbox 360 in June.
This post has been sponsored by EA Games, but all thoughts are our own.

History's greatest heroes clash in "Arena of Fate" – a brand new IP from Crytek

Step into the shoes of legendary heroes from history and fantasy and lock horns in "Arena of Fate"; an action-packed online multiplayer game coming to PC and consoles soon from Crytek.
Picture
Featuring fast-paced 5 vs. 5 battles, Arena of Fate expands Crytek's range of Games-as-a-Service, and will be playable for the first time at this year's E3 expo in Los Angeles. Players will be free to choose from a huge roster of famous characters before engaging in star-studded skirmishes with fresh gameplay twists.

Managing Director of Crytek Black Sea and Game Director of Arena of Fate, Vesselin Handjiev, said: “Imagine Joan of Arc and Robin Hood cooperating to hunt down Little Red Riding Hood – Wouldn’t that be terrific? But besides the game's iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay. We are very excited to meet the first wave of players in the arena this summer, and will be listening carefully to the feedback we receive and making the community's contribution a key part of our efforts to perfect the fun.”

The game is being developed by Crytek's Sofia studio, which was established in 2008 following Crytek's acquisition of Black Sea Studios. #F1Racestars races onto iOS to fill your mobile F1 karting need.

22/5/2014

Picture
Free to play can be fun, bad or indifferent. But with the arrival of F1 Racestars into the free to play market on iOS we are hoping Codemasters are able to capture the fun that made the console title such a blast to play.
The use of the F1 licence allows the development team to incorporate all the teams, the drivers and the cars into the game. The similar craziness of the tracks has also found it's way over to the mobile title.

This however is no straight port instead it looks at ways of making the experience more suited to a mobile platform. These include differing touch or tilt controls as well as the ability to use game controllers suited for your device. This all points to giving the driver options and with 40 tracks to master it looks like those controls will be sorely tested.

Below are  a few screenshots to get your engines running.

New Batman: Arkham Knight Debut Gameplay Trailer Revealed & it looks epic

21/5/2014

When it comes to Batman I have spent more time in the Rocksteady's Gotham/Arkham than in any other form of media. I love the Nolan/Bale films and there are comic runs that are special. However with Arkham Asylum Rocksteady crafted a complex tale with an interactivity that up to that point I had not experienced. Now with the Brititsh developer back at at the helm it looks like Arkham Knight will be my game to look out for in 2014 (Paul).
Below is the first official gameplay trailer and it looks mouthwatering to say the least.
Picture
“Evening the Odds” showcases Scarecrow’s return to Gotham City as he schemes to unite the Rogues Gallery and destroy Batman once and for all.  As the citizens flee and criminal gangs take control, the Dark Knight evens the odds by taking to the streets in the legendary Batmobile to ignite the fight that will decide the future of the city that he is sworn to protect.
Batman: Arkham Knight is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license and will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City.

0RBITALIS NEW UPDATES ADDED ON STEAM EARLY ACCESS

16/5/2014

Picture
One-of-a-kind independent developer Alan Zucconi and UK independent publisher Mastertronic today announced a myriad of new updates to gravity simulator 0RBITALIS, currently available on Steam Early Access.

Updated features to further enrich the celestial experience include friend leaderboards and histograms to let players compare score distribution at a glance. Quality settings and zoom effects have also been refined to create a more streamlined experience, and there are new ambient soundtracks from Doseone. Think you’ve mastered your orbit? Ten new levels have now been added to increase the challenge!

Alan Zucconi said: “It's hard to describe the amount of positive feedback I’ve had from the community so far. Seeing people playing for days, trying to achieve a stable orbit, has been the biggest reward for me. This is why the update brings new features such as friends leaderboards and histograms.”

“I also showed the game to the developers of Kerbal Space Program, resulting in a secret level which reproduces the Kerbol System,” continued Alan. “The update also features homages to other big indie titles such as Robin Arnott's SoundSelf. I am looking forward to hearing the players' feedback and I really can't wait for the next update.”

Stuart Morton, Producer at Mastertronic, added: “0RBITALIS has been going down a storm with the thousands of people who have so far picked it up and this update by Alan is the result of their feedback. The Steam Early Access community is a great help for developers and I have no doubt 0RBITALIS will continue to improve.”

0RBITALIS is a simulation that blends physics perfection with gaming, available now on Steam Early Access for PC.

The Ground Forces Expansion joins Gaijin Entertainment’s blockbuster military World War II MMO game War Thunder on PC, providing war hungry players the ability to unleash furious battles from either air or land, all within the same play experience.

“Our goal from the beginning with War Thunder was to create a game that allows players to safely experience the perils of a full scale world war. The rumble you hear in the distance, is the sound of many of our six million players launching their earth shaking attacks using heavily armored ground forces. Players who prefer aerial battles better keep one eye in the air and one eye on the ground because the Ground Forces Expansion has launched!”,  said Anton Yudintsev, CEO of Gaijin Entertainment.

Ground Forces Expansion joins the ranks of War Thunder, allowing players to now create their own military force made up of aircrafts as well as tanks. With improved player progression, fans can build their arsenal to match their style of play, whether that be with lightning quick strike abilities or with earth rattling shock and awe! Players can now decide how best to build up and unleash their military might upon others in War Thunder’s ever-growing next generation experience.

Currently, players can access Soviet and German vehicles in Ground Forces with other nations rolling out later. There are dozens of light, medium and heavy tanks, as well as self-propelled artillery and anti-air guns. The latter will become useful in Combined Arms battles, available in Realistic and Simulation game modes where player-controlled ground vehicles are fighting alongside player-controlled planes (and AI-allies in some cases). Combined Arms will be enabled later once enough players reach high levels with their ground forces, but anyone can try this mode in Custom Battles already.

Gaijin Entertainment will add additional ground vehicles and new maps in future updates, but developers have not forgotten pilots and their needs. In update 1.41 all of the existing aerial game modes have stayed intact with some tweaks and improvements and 10 new aircrafts, including the powerful US Navy bomber PBJ-1H, armed with a mighty 75-mm cannon, have entered the fray. The Ground Forces Expansion release date on PS4 will be announced soon.

The Halo Journey; By: Bonnie Ross – General Manager, 343 Industries

16/5/2014

Any time you transition to a new platform, there is the opportunity to look at things with a new perspective. For us at 343 Industries, the launch of the Xbox One was an opportunity to think about what stories we wanted to tell, how to tell them, and how best to push the Halo franchise to showcase the platform. And maybe, most importantly, combining our passion for Halo with the vocal and informative input from our fans.

Halo isn’t simply a perennial game franchise, it’s a part of the Xbox platform itself. In terms of innovation and ideation, it’s sometimes important to people who might not even play Halo. And of course it’s a passion and an essential experience for two generations of gamers.  So we asked ourselves, how do we begin and where do we go with Halo on Xbox One?

In the past, Halo games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial.  It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the Halo game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.

I’m happy to reveal that Halo 5: Guardians, the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015.  In the tradition of every Halo game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4.  That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

It’s a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from Halo 4 about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale – and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the Halo universe.

And 2015 won’t simply be the year of Halo 5: Guardians, it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the Halo television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business.  A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience.  We’ll have more to share on the Halo television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that Halo fans will be pretty excited the special plans we have in store.

So until E3, I’d like to express my gratitude to our massive and varied Halo community, whose energy, enthusiasm, criticism and kindness are the driving force behind what we do and what we hope to achieve in Halo 5: Guardians.

This is a mean top ten for the Extinction challenge but if you jump to the 5 minute you will see the winner our very own reviver extraordinaire Steph.
I would like to say I taught him everything he knows but that would be a lie.
Anyway get to watching to learn the way to really avoid the human race going extinct.
