Rugby Challenge 2 predicts a 21-0 win for the Lions over the Barbarians.

31/5/2013

In what is looking like an ill thought out pre-tour trip to Hong Kong, the Lions have been predicted a sizeable win. The team at Alternative Software and HES played the match out between two of Rugby's unique teams. This will be the first time the teams have met since 1977.
We're not sure if the developers have been able to code in the excessive heat the City is experiencing at the moment. But one thing is for sure, the Lions' roar is about to heard for the first time in four years.

Early Impressions; Grid 2 Launch day

31/5/2013

Picture
The latest Racer from Codemasters' varied stable, hit the streets quite literally this morning. Through the wonder of pre-orders and the PSN we have been able to complete a fair chunk of the game and are so far suitably impressed.
We will be bringing a full review later in the week but if you like your racing Arcadey then this will be right up your street.
With 5 levels of difficulty, this game will have a broad appeal, coupled with damage that can be cosmetic or structural; every driver can find a comfort zone to race.
The starting cars are limited and these will grow as you race, but as you do not have free choice in events, the limited garage is suitable.
The narrative going on in the career is basic and fits the game's arcade feel.
We will be posting a full review soon but until then check out the attached video for some high-octane thrills.

Real Boxing brings the fight to the Vita

30/5/2013

Picture
From training to full bouts the graphics look to be making full use of the Vita's power
From Fight Night to Mike Tyson's Boxing the sport of kings has been well represented in the gaming world. In August Vivid Games is aiming to continue this relationship by bringing a pugilistic experience to the Vita.
Using the Unreal 3 Engine the developer are hoping to bring new levels of graphics and game-play to Sony's Handheld, this will include utilising the Vita's touchscreens to give greater depth to the action.
We have attached some screens to show off the stunning visuals

Fuse Demo Walkthrough

Kojima reveals more details about the new (new) Metal Gear game

29/5/2013

Picture
Hideo Kojima has made his thoughts known about the current style of trailers in the games industry. He makes it quite clear, through his English Twitter account, for The Phantom Pain trailer, that he wants to focus on character and story, rather than a Hollywood style of explosions and cacophony. Knowing the Metal Gear franchise, it is doubtful this means that the game will lack these elements, but it is interesting to see developers focussing more on the narrative aspect.

Saints Row IV; Commander in Chief edition announced.

28/5/2013

Picture
If there is one thing Volition have brought to their Saints Row franchise its over the top gameplay. From Giant Purple sex toys to crazy set pieces the older the Saints have become the more lunacy they have become embroiled in.
Saints Row IV looks to be continuing this trend with the Saints rise to the White House and to celebrate this the Commander in Chief edition will be bringing players an 'Uncle Sam' outfit in the classic Red, White and Blue a Stimulus pack full of weapons and more importantly a Crazy sounding Attack Bird.
Hopefully with all this extra fire power repealing an alien Invasion will be a walk in the park for our favourite Purple wearing ensemble.

EA Reveal Next Gen Racer Need For Speed Rivals

24/5/2013

Yesterday EA announced their first racer for the Next Gen consoles, Need for Speed Rivals.
The NFS title will be the first effort from new EA studio Ghost Games. They will be creating the game around the Frostbite 3 engine, this will allow for dynamic weather effects to play a big part in races. There is also the promise of a fully integrated Autolog system and customisable cars.

The game will be arriving on the Xbox One and PS4 after the initial release for the PC and current consoles on the 19/11/2013.
As is becoming the norm for most titles if you pre-order the game from participating retailers you will be upgraded to the Rivals Ultimate Cop Pack. This gives you access to the Nissan GTR Black Edition Cop Car and advanced Pursuit technology. The fact you will be able to play as a cop or Racer points to a game from the NFS Hot Pursuit mold allowing dual progression as you level up as a Racer and a Cop.
From the video and Screenshots supplied one of the big changes is the return of Ferrari to the NFS franchise adding one of the worlds premium car companies to the list of cars available within game.

Mortal Kombat: Coming To PC

23/5/2013

Picture
Back in 2011 NetherRealms studio created for my money the best single player experience in a fighting game to date. This was due to the game not being just a ladder system but having an actual narrative.
Up until now though the have had been the preserve on the console with editions on the Xbox360, PS3 and Vita. However from the 3rd of July digitally and 2nd of August physically PC players will now get the chance to partake in this brutal fighting experience.
Adapted by High Voltage Software this version will be the Komplete edition which includes the four DLC characters Kenshi, Rain, Skarlet and Freddy Kruger of Nightmare on Elm Street Fame.

Grid 2; Goes Indy

The hype train for Grid 2 is building with the release of stills and video highlighting the Indy cars and tracks available.

This is to coincide with this weekends Indy 500. The famous  Indianapolis 500 track will be playable within the game.

However some of the alternate routes on the track and a few cars will be added as downloadable content from the Race Day special edition. Available from amazon as a pre-order.

Tomb Raider Review

When Tomb Raider was originally announced they set the scene with the Turning Point Trailer you see to the right.

The brief video contained a lofty promise in the narrative of a central character on a journey of growth and discovery. To see if the game was fully able to hit those heights hit the link above to read our Review.

Thief is one of the greatest stealth franchises around and the visuals in the trailer below show an environment dominated by shadows, hopefully creating a great environment for Garrett to work.

Battlefield 4 confirmed for Xbox One, PC and PS4

21/5/2013

The news that Battlefield 4 will be appearing on the next generation of consoles was almost a dead certainty.

However, Dice have, today, announced that the first DLC for Battlefield 4 will be called China Rising. This pack will be free for people who order the Premium edition of the title.

From the sounds of the pack it should be a great addition to the battlefield experience.
In this sprawling expansion, players fight for dominance across the vast and majestic Chinese mainland in four massive multiplayer maps, using all-new vehicles and high-tech military equipment.

PC players who pre-order will get extra bonuses both in-game and through the chance to be in the game's Beta.

Call Of Duty Ghosts; Initial Screenshots

21/5/2013

Picture
One of the biggest reveals from the Xbox One event was the new game from Infinity Ward. With further details coming out at E3. So for the moment we have to be content with the screenshots created within a new engine and the news that the single player story was penned by Traffic writer Stephen Gaghan. With a great writing talent on board the hope is the single player will push the ante for storytelling.
One thing for certain is that Call of Duty will be releasing on the next generation and going hard for our gaming hour

Xbox One Reveal; The gaming side

21/5/2013

The successor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has been revealed at a press conference that was streamed around the world. The Console name Xbox One feeds into the principle that the console will be the 'One' piece of equipment you need for entertainment in the living room. Whether this is a masterstroke or a mis-step remains to be seen. Below we will showcase some of the highs of the new system.
Picture
Two of the great touches are the Game PVR within the system (not detailed where the video will be displayed) and the Smart match system which, by the sounds of it, will make jumping online quicker. This will be supported by a massive server base all designed to make Xbox Live the best Multiplayer experience it can be. Although at the time of the conference, the Xbox website crashed; not a great piece of PR for a company showing off about its servers.
Picture
Picture
The specs are detailed below
it features the all-new Kinect, the new Xbox One Wireless Controller, a 500GB hard drive, an eight-core, x86 processor, wireless networking connectivity, HDMI®, three super-speed USB 3.0 ports, and a high-speed Blu-ray™ disc player.

The controller itself has been remodelled, with a classy new design. The 'start' and 'back' buttons are gone. The new buttons are a subject of speculation, but could relate  to the switching feature allowing you to swap between media. The new trigger buttons include feedback which, according to Microsoft, can be programmed by developers to give context specific feedback depending on the game you are playing. Because the interaction between the controller and the Kinect is essential it does mean the Kinect has to always be connected.
On the gaming side we had the trailer for the new Call of Duty, named Ghosts. View the trailer here.
This came with the promise of exclusive DLC which was expected. However, the announcement that EA sports titles like FIFA will get exclusive content was a surprise and, in our opinion, a major coup. To tie up two of the biggest cross-platforms titles with exclusive content will help many a player opt for Microsoft's new system and in this regard we don't feel this reveal was too much of a mis-step.
Picture
Picture
As for exclusives it's a bit of a mixed bag; there were the promise of 15 titles. Two were shown in Forza 5 and Remedy Entertainment's new title called Quantum Break. The other titles (apparently 8 new IPs) are still a mystery and this could be an issue, but with E3 just around the corner we will not have to wait too long to find out.
On the gaming front, our feeling from the Xbox One reveal is that it is appealing to the middle ground of gamers with the focus on bringing the exclusive content for COD and FIFA. This is no bad thing, by gaining a major following of gamers Microsoft may secure enough of an install base to keep the Xbox as a market leader, if not on the cutting edge of indie game development.

Company Of Heroes 2; The story so far.

21/5/2013

Picture
With an updated engine the second installment of the World War 2 RTS will shift its emphasis from the Western to the Eastern front. In the wastelands of the USSR you will not only have to deal with enemy troops  but an altogether different foe will always be lurking, The Weather. Hopefully this mechanic will create extra pressure on players and give the game an even deeper strategic feel.

One thing is for sure the game looks impressive from my time with it at Eurogamer 2012 and other exposures it looks to build upon the success of the originaland that should be the recipe for a great title.
So the question is in the great Patriotic war which side will you take?
We have included a array of screenshots to try to wet your appetite for the game.

Resident Evil Revelations releasing this week.

20/5/2013

Picture
The next game in Capcom's Resident Evil franchise is being released this week. The 21st in the states and we in europe have to wait to the 24th.

With a move back to survival horror the game will incorporate a 2 player co-op as well as upgraded visuals from the 3DS version.
The game will release on PC, PS3, Xbox360 and the WiiU

Below is the release trailer to get you in the fearful mood.

Batman Arkham Origins Trailer

20/5/2013

Nonlethal Violence has always been the calling card of Batman. His stealth abilities allow him to live in the shadows and this relates extremely well to games.

The opening of this latest trailer gives a great showing of the a developing Batman and his raw aggression as well as introducing us to the villains he will be facing on the streets of Gotham.

Arkham Origins will be releasing on The PC, PS3, XBOX360 and WiiU in October 2013.

Batman Arkham Origin Screenshots

The Dark Knight hardly needs any introduction. However some of his foes in the upcoming title from Warner Bros Montreal are not generally as well known. The new villain list includes Black Mask and the subject of some nice pre-purchase Dlc Deathstroke. With the promise of a post origin but pre-Arkham Asylum story line the addition of these villains is a welcome change.

Alien Rage Teaser Trailer

20/5/2013

Before the full reveal at E3 in June CI games have a dropped a teaser for their upcoming FPS.

With the promise of a hardcore Sci-fi shooter full of a plethora of weapons and enemies, the Polish studio hope to make a big splash when they premier the game in Los Angeles.

The game will release digitally later this year on PC, PS3 and Xbox360

Batman Arkham Origins Teaser Trailer

17/5/2013

New developer Warner Brothers Montreal have been charged with expanding the timeline of Rocksteady's Arkham franchise and early signs are promising.

This teaser trailer shows a more youthful Batman fighting as yet unnamed named Enemy (looks like Deathstroke). Even though it's just a brief clip the developers have promised an expanded Gotham to play around in.

Look out for the first full trailer coming next week.

PS2 Classic Manhunt comes to PS3

17/5/2013

Rockstar created a bit of a stir in 2003 with the release of stealth thriller Manhunt. Now the cult classic has been released for the first time on PS3 as part of the firms PS2 classic line up. Downloadable from the PSN for £7.99 (at time of print)

Manhunt's gameplay has you becoming part of a new reality TV show where the name of the game is to avoid being killed, as you systematically take-down the hordes of hunters desperate for your blood.

Picture
Even though the game was surrounded with controversial on its release it gained good critical acclaim with a 76% rating on Metacritic. The novel way of using your voice (via the PS2's Mic) as a distraction technique added a level of complexity to the stealth and increasing the imersive nature of the gameplay.

Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag on PS4; Conversations with Creators

16/5/2013

In this Sony exclusive interview the team from Ubisoft talk about their upcoming title Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag.

For fans of the series this shows off where the franchise is heading with this installment.

For those wondering about the PS4 we also get some insight on what the new system will be able bring to games, to make them the step up a lot of us want.

Gran Turismo 6 Announcement Trailer

16/5/2013

One of the amazing things about Gran Turismo has always been its graphics. The video attached will show off some of these changes but most of all it shows off the cars.
There are also some usage stats about the game included showing the dedication of fans of the GT series.
Unfortunately one thing a trailer cannot do is show off how the game feels to play but with the promise from Kaz that he will be able make you "feel" the force while cornering as well among other upgrades then this really will be the premier driving simulator out there. The other great piece of news is a demo will be released in July to coincide with the new GT Academy. Allowing the speculation to stop and you to find out if the developers really were able to create video gaming gold.
