Last weekend saw MCM London Comic Con pass the 100,000 visitor mark for the first time, smashing the Excel-based event's previous highest attendance record.
Show organisers revealed that 101,600 attendees came through the doors of MCM London Comic Con between Friday 23 and Sunday 25 May, compared to 88,000 people last October and just over 70,000 in May 2013.
"This has been the most successful MCM London Comic Con on record - in fact, the largest event of its kind ever held in the UK," said show co-organiser Bryan Cooney. "The soaring attendance not only reflects a growing worldwide interest in comic cons and the ever-expanding range of attractions and activities at our show, but also the strength of the community that has built up around it over the years. Whether you're into sci-fi, comics, videogames, movies, manga, anime, J-fashion or cosplay, the twice-yearly MCM London Comic Con has become the place to meet up with like-minded friends and make new ones."
"MCM London Comic Con keeps going from strength-to-strength," show co-organiser Paul Miley added. "As well as featuring a great special guest line-up and a host of top comic book creators, games publishers, film studios, anime distributors and retailers, this latest show saw us respond to public demand by expanding our online video, eSports and Asian culture offerings. And when we return in October, the show will be even bigger and better!"
The next MCM London Comic Con takes place at Excel London on 24-26 October 2014.
From the makers of Left for Dead (Turtle Rock Studios) and the publishers of Borderlands (2K) you expect a title that has the ability to wow players. The premise alone is enough to raise more than a few eyebrows. Four on one seems a tad unfair especially when the four are heavily armed with a vast array of exotic weapons and tactical toys. The balance for the one is that you are a rather resourceful behemoth capable of using stealth and your own set of skills to dispatch the team sent against you. This type of idea has been tried before, the Aliens vs Predator title a few years ago had the same idea but feel down as the Marines overpowered the Alien. The test for this game is how well would the One control and how balanced is the game. Firstly we were playing on pc's from Chillblast with 360 controllers so I was straight at home. Unfortunately my audio was down so I had to play deaf, it made the experience a lot harder as I was getting shot from unknown angles but handily the bullet trails are present. So I played as the monster in a mode called hunt, the principle of which is that the monster must either kill the hunters or destroy a specific target. Obviously for the hunters the roles are reversed.
With a small space the hunters had me pinned but they also were vulnerable to my attacks it gave me the chance to kill one and then stop the rest reviving them and so on until I reigned triumphant. Even though I won I would easily say this was the games highlight of the show. Even when I add in my lack of audio. The game will need beefing up with modes and characters but if this is the base then the topping should be enough to draw player sin like flies come October.
There was a bank of PC’s running a pre Alpha version of the new Grid title from Codemasters. The games were all single player and were a mixture of a day race and then there was a night race on the Sepang Circuit. You were not given a choice of car so I was racing in an unknown GT car.
One of the main aspects of the last game which caused a lot of uproar among Grid fans was the loss of a true cockpit mode, I’m pleased to see this back and must say it felt the best way to navigate the dimly lit Malaysian track. Of course the extras like the windscreen wipers are present making the visual mode feel authentic. I'm glad they have brought back the cockpit view as I do like to flick between this and third person. The handling felt tight and on the button, I was using a xbox360 controller and I found it easy to feel the corner thanks to the slight vibration I was getting back. This sync is really useful for keeping the you on-line especially while you are racing in the dark. Visually the cars looked great as did the dust effects as I was spun out by an opponent with only a minute to go in the endurance race setting. By the time I recovered I was back in 16th place a loss of 14 places. The impact felt truthful and it does not feel you can go around charging all comers to get to the finish, however a well placed nudge to the back can make an opponent spin out and that could make life difficult and interesting when the game gets released on June the 27th.
