Biotic powers are one of the key advancements made in the Mass Effect series they allowed troops a different form of attack than the usual weaponry. In this fourth instalment we get to look at the dedication that is sometimes required to gain control over these powers. At a training camp on the Gargarian station in the far reaches of the universe Kaidan Alenko is learning how to use his abilities under a hard task master.

I was never a big fan of Kaidan he seemed a stunted character within the game but this story helps to explain why this maybe the case. Again Mac Walters is creating a companion to the game that will enhance readers/players enjoyment of both mediums. The clever trick however is that as this is a foundation series no previous knowledge is needed to enjoy the stories being presented. In fact it may be an advantage coming in fresh as you can learn about the events in real time as it were.

Art wise my over riding memory of this issue is blue. The biotic powers are depicted with the colour and they help to create a immense visual feast. The training room sequence is probably the highlight of the series so far. It’s also great to see a brilliant representation of a Turian in the shape of Commander Vymmu. He is depicted as a harsh taskmaster in both visuals and mannerisms. This really comes across well and for a subsidiary character he feels really well crafted.

We are though seemingly getting to the bottom of Leng's mission from the Illusive man.
