This is an odd place to start a review but we are with the final issue of Lords of Mars with our first review on the series. However thankfully the summary at the beginning at the front of the issue gives you a great grounding in the way events have unfolded up to this point, so jumping in here is no real issue.

This series is a Sci Fi/Fantasy mix starring both John Carter and Tarzan. The characters involved have been brought to Mars and now have to do battle with Jagati Khen, the Holy Father of the Therns, with the help of an unexpected ally.

This ally is the reason I enjoyed this issue the ability of a comic to portray a character with conflicting emotions is a great sight to behold. I think the story remains fluid as you can never be sure if the choice made is definite until the final act is done. This tension along with the action helps to keep you intrigued with the issue right to the last page.

The art is a mixed bag with some panels looking very detailed and others less so. It helps you to concentrate the mind on the seemingly important panels but I do prefer more of a consistent art style. The violence is very well represented with some of the killing feeling visceral to say the least.

Overall I am intrigued to pick up Lords of Mars if it comes to trade or even dive in should a new series arise. ? .
