Review - Lil Battlestar Galactica

Review by Paul Fiander
Covers: Art Baltazar
Writer: Art Baltazar and Franco
Art: Art Baltazar

Art Baltazar and Franco's Dynamite Sojourn has so far been their usual wonderful mixture of in-jokes and creatively distinctive art. The formula has stayed pretty constant from Itty Bitty Hellboy to Tiny Titans. This is because it works, the ability of the writers to look at an established IP with new eyes shows how, dare I call it parody should be done.

For some Battlestar Galactica is pretty sacred ground. The show had a constant depth that a lot of TV shows only flirt with; dealing with the issues of today with a Sci-Fi setting meant the show was able to have its own voice making it an all-time great watch.

This book though is not created in the same mould. Instead we are looking at the individual characters and the way they deal with an inevitable attack from the Cylons. This is not really as a spoiler as you can see the Cylons in the back ground of the cover not to mention there ships are plastered all over the place. However to tell you how they appear and the characters reactions would spoil quite a bit.

This is a book created with the family in mind. This is the kind of comic I will enjoy reading to my 3 year old son for the enjoyment he would get from the artwork and over reactions of the characters. Then I’ll read again just to pick up on all the jokes that are splashed across the pages. To reinforce the child friendly aspect there is even a Puzzles and Games section midway through the issue just to keep the mood light hearted.

I love being able to have fun with a book and Lil BSG is certainly able to fulfil my laughter quota for the day. I will give this one shot a hearty endorsement, there is certainly scope for exploration of the universe but if this stays a One Shot it will not be a shame as the piece is great just as it is.

Big Red and the rest of the B.P.R.D. are shrunk down into the world of Baltazar and Franco. How
does everyone's favourite demon deal with this well take a look and see.
