Review - Halo: Initiation #3Review by Paul Fiander
|
You can read a review of the first issue here and second issue here. This will be the first time the Halo Universe will be explored in conjuncture with Dark Horse Comics.

The ending of Halo initiation leaves you with a sense of fulfilment more so than the rest of the series has produced. The trouble always felt that we knew where the ending had to be and so were just playing out the motions. This is something Dark Horse usually handle very well and although not a disaster of a run I was hoping for more.
The book is basicly separated into two halves the first being very vocal with all parties setting themselves up and the second half where action rules. both sections do their respective jobs well but the second half is clearly the winner. The artwork in the second stanza is perhaps the highlight of the book and I especially enjoyed the final page as we get the payoff we were waiting for. The last fight is also a high point as it feels strong and gritty.
Dialogue wise I'm wondering if the writer was trapped in an established universe and so has to stick to protocol. It feels very military in style and so probably in keeping with the Halo universe afterall they are soldiers. I would like to see a little more depth to the charcters but in a three issue Mini series I may have been wanting a little too much.
I'm not at all sure if I want to pick up Halo more after concluding the series or not. This will be a question I look at when the Trade is Released. However as an piece of backstory it works well and hopefully Halo escalation will continue the firm foundations Initiation has created and take it to the next level.
