Superhero’s come in many shapes and sizes but few manage to capture the imagination like Furious. From the first Issue Bryan J Glass has depicted her as an agent for justice. The only trouble is her idea of justice may be a little extreme for most people’s taste. Whenever a heinous crime happens people will say if I could get five minutes with that person I’d show them the meaning of Justice (or in other words I would F@#k that SOB up). The Beacon as she prefers to be known has taken this to the next level as she is able to exert her own form of physical retribution on any perp she meets.

With this issue we get further insight into the mind of Furious and her past. To be honest this has been the most enticing part of the story so far, the tortured soul that is Cadence Lark had it all but lost everything in the most public way possible. This is something that a fifty year hero can never quite capture, the way the media has the ability to build and destroy people’s character has always been there. It’s just now in this day and age we are in media has become so much more. From Facebook to Twitter everyone has an opinion and a view to share. In this way everyone with internet access is now a social commentator of one kind or another. This is why Furious did not get the name she wanted because just like Ms Lark she was and will be judged through the media.

With all the Meta shenanigans going on you would be forgiven for thinking this issue does not pack a punch all of its own. In that fact you would be wrong. This issue does not only come out swinging but it grabs you by the throat. Furious is put in a position where she does not know if she will survive. This is mostly due to the fact she does not truly understand what she is but it’s her adversary that really makes the impact in the story. The telling part is why is furious his enemy and when you look into the reasons you will be intrigued as I was.

Furious continues to be a hero for a new generation; her story is one that works on a number of levels. But whether it’s fun you desire or cultural analysis Bryan J Glass has created a place for you at the Beacons table.

Issue Rating 4.5/5

By the way I know the hypocrisy of a person writing a review commenting on this but I am a part of this media generation so I reserve the right for my voice to be heard.

To catch up from the Beginning..

Furious #1

The Beacon has issue mainly that no one understands her and the fact that she is a Super Hero makes her issues even more enjoyable.
