Crash Bandicoot from Cable Guys XL
The wonder of modern phones is they have become true multimedia hubs. From Audiobooks to games, comics to music we can access all we need on the go. This however creates a bit of a problem in yes of form factor. A phone is primarily built to hold in the hand but for tasks such as watching a video, this is not always the optimal thing to do.
Personally I tend to multitask especially when consuming YouTube were the vocal content is the essence of the video. This led me to the old "prop the phone up" game I'm sure we have all played. There are other options like a case with a kickstand but these can be cumbersome, so instead I lean towards stands. In this regard there are numerous options with many being utilitarian in their form, they do the job but that's about it. Then there are the Cable Guys XL. |
Primarily created as charging holders the character focused pieces add a splash of colour to any desk or kitchen (yes I watch Overwatch discussion videos while cooking and washing up). My holder is Crash Bandicoot but you can find other options from the Deadpool to Spyro and even everyone's favourite maladjusted Robot CalpTrap. The range is sure to fit most tastes out there.
The form factor of Crash allows you to rest your device on his outstretched hands. The edge fits nicely into a depression cut into both palms, allowing for a safe fit with minimal screen coverage, hence its perfect use for video consumption. Due to the distance between the hands you have ample room if the charging point for your device is on the lower edge of a portrait orientated device (like the Switch). The weight is very reassuring as it is very unlikely to knocked off of a surface easily.
You are able to rest Phones and Tablets as well as the Nintendo Switch (which is pretty Meta if you are playing Crash Team Racing at the time). My 10.1 Inch tablet however does not fit as the edge gets caught on the nose. All in all this is the type of product that if you have a place for it in your home then it comes highly recommended. The Crash Bandicoot XL does the job it was intended for with a great splash of colour and more importantly an intelligent design that gives you confidence entrusting your expensive devices with. The 2 metre cable that comes with the stand is also a great touch as it has the length that allows for flexibilty in where you charge your device. (Be Aware that is a micro USB cable only) |
