Review - Conan #21Review by Kevin Birtcher
|
Conan was released by Dark Horse on the 19th October 2013

The Black Stones storyline ends here, but as the final page reminds us, Brian Wood has one more story to tell before the end of his globe-spanning, love-fueled, blood-spilling run.
As cultists continue their search for Conan in the Forest of Ghouls, Belit meets with the cult leader, and the village burns around them. The cult leader has questions for Belit about herself and the relic, but Belit's answers only make her increasingly irratic as the interrogation continues. Meanwhile, Conan finds himself the one place to hide that his human and dog persuers won't search. Will Conan and Belit meet again before an untimely end can befall either of them? Probably, since there series still has three issues to go... but the fun is in discovering how.
While I wish Becky Cloonan could have stayed on the title longer*, Paul Azaceta does an excellent job with these characters and the fantasy setting. Brian Wood, for his part, continues to make me interested and care about characters I never thought I'd be reading. I look forward to the Conan/Red Sonja crossover coming from him and Gail Simone in the coming months.
*Really, I wish she were able to draw more comics than is humanly possible, but I've learned to cope.
