Review - Clown Fatale #3Review by Paul Fiander
|
We left the Clowns beginning a raid of a drug dealer’s compound. However we begin this episode with a little backstory. It’s kind of an age old story with the established criminal boss in a small being muscled out of his territory by a new younger group. The opening is pretty solid even though the art gets a little shaky when we have close ups of Talbot. One in particular shows his eyes bulging and drool dripping his lips. It’s a strong image but it just does not capture rage to a level I think the rest of the art needs or deserves. It’s a small moan in an otherwise visual feast of craziness. This series has pushed the boundaries of acceptable art to the limit at points but thanks to its tongue in cheek manner it never feels crass.
The cover work (shown to the right) of this issue has a great play on the usual vital statistics we see associated with models. The line reads… Chloe by the numbers 35-24-35… .45. The statistics are obviously absurd proportions but in keeping with the character models the team has created. However just when you think it’s time to give a little groan the joke of the .45 kicks in, again the comedy comes to the rescue. When we delve into the pages though things change the comedy is largely replaced with carnage as the girls go to town on the drug cartel. The splash page as we come back to the present is mental full of motion and bullets that make the page jump. We do hit a common trodden path at this point and the refusal to pull the trigger felt like an acceptable choice for the clown in question. However if you think this issue has gone soft the end will kick you in the teeth and try to rip out your jugular. With one issue to go I have absolutely loved this mini and I cannot wait for the finale. |
