Captain Midnight is a re-imagining of the classic hero from Comics Radio and TV. His story has now become . This issue was released on July 31st 2013. You can read a review of the preview issue here.
In the true start of the Captain Midnight series we start with a flashback to 1942. This is the first introduction we have to the new art style created by Fernando Daginito. This unfortunately does create one problem for me. In the preview issue I commented that it was good to a superhero who looked built without looking Roided up. There are now some panels where he looks a bit oversized. It's a shame but thankfully he is not Hulk size. Speaking of Physique there is a really section showing a spot of mountain climbing. Here the visuals are more subtle and fitting to the character in question.

Colour wise we have a much brighter palette on show than in the preview issue. The colourist Ego has remained and the change in tone seems to fit the new art style on show.

The dialogue thankfully seems appropriate with Captain Midnight being very 1940 quotes and speech patterns. The modern characters speak with speech patterns more appropriate for today. If this continues it will give the time traveling hero story a lot more credence.

In terms of story this issue continues on from where the preview issue left off. We get a measure of backstory and then we move full force in to the modern era.

The Font Cover of the Comic
The Captain is by no means the main focus of this story, although he seems an ever present observer in many scenes. This is thanks to the framing of certain panels. They seem to be created to give the impression of someone watching a security system. Leaving the rest of the cast to fill most of the pages and so the story, helping to create a bond to some of the cast as well as giving us an insight into the main Villain's motivation.

The issue feels like the opening of a game of chess, all the pieces are being put in their optimum position ready for an attack to take place. So far the series has been strong but not stellar. If a strong plot can be created then the Captain is looking like a worthy reentry into the Superhero canon
The Comic is available in both print and digital from Dark Horse comics. Follow this link for more details.
