Blood Brothers in a new series set within the Action/Adventure Horror Genre. Its is due to be released on the 17th of July 2013
Thankfully the front cover of Blood Brothers tell you an awful lot about the story contained within the pages. Well for the first episode at the least.
The book covers the adventures of a pair of Vampires living in Las Vegas. Their major goal in life appears to be survival and we get a lot of hints as to how they have achieved this over time. There are some brilliant historical references that seem to spell out the highs and lows of Nick and Tree's relationships throughout the centuries. But now they pay the bills in another way. The depiction of the two characters feels like they are mid to late teen. With vampires not aging that's how physically they should look but mentally I question why when they are alone do they still chat like the kids of today. This is slightly jarring but for a lot of people the voices of the characters will feel apt. The art work throughout the book is very similar to the cover. Its stylised appearance blends well with the slightly off the wall nature of the story. The character models are simple with only basic detail being shown in their expressions. This doesn't hamper the storytelling as the story is not going for nuance. |
The action scenes are generally short with quotable shots being depicted. By that I mean there are a couple of quotes like Kidney shot while performing the action. Its again not bad but does make the story feel like its aimed for the mid to late teen market.
Even though Tree and Nick are there the main characters there is also another major player in this story. He is hunting for both the past and its descendants in the future. This feels like a path I have trodden before but this time time we will be accompanied by two heavily armed Vampire bounty hunters.
Blood brothers has me intrigued enough to continue with the series. If the story deviates from the usual cliches it could be quite fun to follow Tree and Nick into the streets of Vegas. We will have to wait and see.
