A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) although set in a different time has one huge thing in common with this most future of tales its total disregard for members of the cast. The finale of issue six saw a death struggle between McKay and Kadir end in our “hero” dying and asking his nemesis to take care of his kids. It was a strong ending to the first trade (review of which can be viewed here) and set up this new arc with all the crash bang wallop you would expect from this remarkable creative team.

As what has seemingly become the norm for Black Science we are dropped into a situation that we do not really understand. Yet the dire straits we find our crew our dimensionauts in helps to draw you into the narrative from the very first panel. This new world is probably the most hostile in the series so far and don’t our crew know it as they are destined to be the main course for a group of new monstrous creations. They are not the most visually interesting race that we have seen but their teeth more than make up for their more mundane look (mundane is a bit harsh but in the worlds of Black Science  only the most outstanding will do).

This issue works as a great jumping on point and is helped by a roll call of The Anarchist League of Scientist at the end of the issue. We have come a long way with the group and have lost not only McKay but quite a few others. That makes this little page a huge help for continuing readers as it helps us remember who is who among the survivors. Obviously how long this remains relevant depends on the creative team but one thing is for sure it won’t be an easy ride.

Black Science remains at the top of my read pile and there seems no slow down even with the loss of McKay. I’m looking forward to see the worlds we will explore but most of all whom among the team will be able to survive their current predicament and those we do not yet know.

Rating; 4.5/5
