Review by Paul Fiander
This is not a usual art book that we cover at the site but it is still one that has brought a few smiles to me during my review read (look) through. Avatar: The Last Airbender for those not in the know is more than just a badly received film. It is also a Nickelodeon TV show and a comic published by Dark Horse.
This Poster Book though comes from the Nickelodeon school of images and boasts a host of artists giving you their impression of the Avatar world. The list of creators is below along with some of the art you will see on picking the book up. One of the big differences between this and the Mass Effect Poster Book (which we have reviewed here) is the range of artistic styles that are on display. From the regular depiction on Aang as a fun loving cartoon based character to the rather menacing image we see adorning the front cover. This helps to give the book a touch of something different that may not please every fan but is certainly great for its artistic merits. ![]() This Illustration by Bryan Konietzko is by far my favourite image, the look of excitement on Aang's face although he is leaping into danger help to sum up the character for me. This coupled with the motion in his arms and bold colours give it a stand out feeling that will be great on any wall. All in all you get 20 posters within the book so more than enough to fill most walls, although you may decide to keep the images together in the book. Either way this is a lovely visual treat and well worth your attention. |
