Episode 183; Home Work, Review

23/10/2019

She wowed as Mary and Maria but behind the scenes Julie Andrews had a more intriguing life than any of her of onscreen personas. In this part of her memoir she expands on her life in Hollywood in an open and frank manner.

Episode 45; What Happened

2/10/2017

For many the 2016 US election was a shock and after spending nearly 17 hours with one of the candidates it's fair to say this is still the case (at least for me).

After listening to What Happened you feel that Hillary Rodham Clinton is not just a politician but also a Mother, Grandmother, campaigner, Lawyer and of course a politician. All these facets are explored within her book as she opens herself to the listener in what must have been a difficult book to write.

no matter who you voted for I think there is depth within the work that will appeal to all listeners and I highly encourage anyone who can to listen to What Happened.

Episode 32; Believe Me: A Memoir of Love, Death and Jazz Chickens, Review

8/8/2017

In terms of comedy few can stand up to the work of Eddie Izzard. In this memoir he brings his personality to the narration of this "Directors Cut" of his book.

Opening up about his life in terms of the loss of his mother at a young age, through school, Dyslexia and of course his sexuality with a level of insight and comedy that are truly infectious.

This has to be one of the best autobiographies I have reviewed and it is certainly worth listening to.

Episode 23; The Princess Diarist, Review

4/7/2017

Carrie Fisher takes us back to 1977 in this sort of Memoir of the filming of Star Wars. Instead of being a number of anecdotes from the time Fisher looks at who she was in these years thanks to diaries she created at the time and lost until she started writing the book.

With the time we spend with her we will get a glimpse into a complex and enigmatic character filled with hopes, dreams and nerves. However for me the book really comes to life when Fisher talks about her later life in a very candid and self deprecating look into he life of everyone's favourite Space Princess.

Episode 3; As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, Review

17/5/2017

Actor Cary Elwes guides us through the making of the creation of one of the greatest films ever put to film (Paul's opinion).

In a 7 hour roller coaster we learn about his role in the film as well as his interactions with cast and crew. There are also a number of cameos from the as mentioned cast and crew littered throughout the piece.

This is a great listen for fans of the film and a genuinely lovely listen.
