Episode 110; 17th Suspect, Review

21/3/2018

Women's Murder Club, Book 17

Coming into a series on the 17th Book can be difficult, however when a story is well crafted and inclusive it can open its arm to new readers and make them fans.

the 17th suspect is certainly a book that draws you in more so by the relationships of the central players than the resolution of the crimes involved.

January LaVoy stamps her usual seal of quality on the product with strong narration and characterisation.

Episode 109; Movie Nights with the Reagans, Review

21/3/2018

Author Mark Weinberg opens the book and makes no apologies for being a fan of the Reagan's. His introduction sets out his stall and lets you into his reason for being creating this insightful look into a complex subject with the use of entertainment.

The rest of the book is narrated by George Newbern who does a great job navigating us through the narrative and keeping the tone on a neutral footing.

An intriguing look into the former President and first Lady.

Epsiode 108; Leonardo da Vinci, Review

16/3/2018

Walter Isaacson casts his critical eye on one of the most interesting characters in history Leonardo da Vinci.

Looking at his life in an enlightening way Isaacson paints you a picture of the master, which will be sure to please both novices and da Vinci scholars.

One of my favourite non-fiction titles expertly narrated by Alfred Molina.

Part Espionage part cook book Jason Matthews manages to entice both the mind and the gut in this tale of International Spying,

Seriously it is obvious to see why this book has now become a film as it is a fantastic look at the world of Espionage filled with suspense and intense situations.

Perfect listening and the best part is that os the beginning of a trilogy and we will bring you the other books in the future.

Episode 105; Happy Adults, Review

14/3/2018

With a wealth of experience of dealing with foster children for 25 years Cathy Glass has been able to write a number of books around the subject. This however is a move into bringing that experience into the realm of adults.

Glass writes well and backs her ideas up with studies. some you may agree some you may not but her theme is to try to take the evidence she has learnt and try to help the listener become happier which is a great thing.

Episode 104; How to Be Human: The Manual, Review

14/3/2018

Ruby Wax along with a Neuroscientist (Ash Ranpura) and a Monk (Gelong Thubten) look into what it means to be a person complete with flaws in order to try to become a better human.

There are plenty of tips on how to change backed up with science and spiritual thought.

It's a interesting listen with Ruby Wax pulling the production together with her usual mix of openness and wit.
